Seeing and smelling basil in a dream is interpreted as joy, delight, and happiness. If the dreamer is a man, it signifies that he will soon meet a woman of his dreams; if the dreamer is a woman, that she will come into a great inheritance; if unmarried, that he will marry a very wealthy person; and if a young person, that all the aspirations he bears in his heart will very soon attain reality. Seeing green basil of beautiful color and fragrance in a dream signifies weeping and sorrow.

According to Ja‘far al-Sadiq, seeing basil is interpreted in seven ways: a spouse, a servant, a friend, a child, a good word, a gathering of learning, and a fine craft. Seeing basil in one’s garden or in a pot in one’s house is interpreted as benefit and goodness.

According to Jābir al-Maghribī, seeing oneself selling basil is good if it is in its season, while selling it out of season is evil. Seeing basil out of season signifies friendship with a noble person of fine speech. Whoever sees in his dream that he is uprooting and plucking basil will part from a noble and eloquent friend.

According to Ibn Sirin, seeing fresh basil of beautiful color and pleasant fragrance in a dream signifies honor and elevation. Seeing basil pale in color and yellowed signifies illness.

According to Kirmani, seeing basil of the Sultani variety signifies a child, while plucking it and casting it away signifies sorrow and tears.

According to another narration: Seeing basil in a dream generally signifies good. If the dreamer is unmarried, it indicates that he will soon enter into a blessed marriage; and if married, that money and property will come into his possession.

Seeing in a dream that you are preparing a dish containing basil signifies that, if you saw everyone enjoying it, you will prepare food for certain people from the promptings of your heart and inner self, and entertain them with affection.

It can be read as a sign of easing, receiving support, gaining morale, or a fruitful development.

Underestimating opportunities, succumbing to comfort, or being late may reduce the positive effect.
