Seeing a beard in a dream signifies wealth and honor for a man; for a woman—if she is pregnant—a male child, if she has no child, that she will never have one; and if she has a child, that this child will become the ruler of his people. If she is a widow, it signifies that she will marry or receive an inheritance from her husband.

Seeing in a dream that the beard is excessively long signifies grief and sorrow, debt and regret, lack of prudence, dullness of understanding, and foolishness.

Being pulled downward by one’s beard in a dream is interpreted as regret and misfortune, or as having reached the end of one’s life.

Holding someone by the beard and pulling it in a dream signifies becoming heir to his property; having part of the beard torn out and the place left bare signifies deficiency; and seeing a bearded person cut his beard signifies sorrow and grief.

Shaving one’s beard in a dream signifies deliverance from illness, debt, and sorrow, or committing an ugly deed; gnawing one’s beard signifies stupidity and lack of reason; combing the beard and applying pleasant perfume to it signifies attaining goodness.

Combing someone’s beard in a dream signifies receiving good from that person. A red beard—if mixed with white—signifies sedition, or the reddening of the roots of the beard. The bamteli (the thick hairs of the beard adjoining the lip) signifies the mistress of the house or a female servant, an assistant, or setting out to undertake something.

The whitening of the beard in a dream signifies long life and adherence to the Sunnah; dyeing the beard or applying henna to it signifies concealing one’s poverty or one’s deeds, and if the dye or henna does not take, it signifies that the thing one wishes to conceal will be exposed.

Oiling the beard with pleasant perfume or a suitable substance in a dream signifies adornment if it does not run, and grief and sorrow if it runs. Wetting the hair and beard and allowing their water to flow signifies knowledge of the secrets of others, and their becoming acquainted with one’s own secret. Seeing oneself shave beneath the beard or the nape signifies paying a debt.

It means that you will do things that earn the respect of those around you. Seeing in a dream that you have cut your beard means that you will be delivered from all your troubles and sorrows.

Growing a beard in a dream means that you will have financial problems. If the dreamer is a woman, there is a possibility that she will make a wrong decision concerning marriage. It is beneficial to be careful. For one without a beard, it signifies trouble and sorrow. For a bearded person, if the beard is handsome, it shows that the person is in very good health.

Seeing in a dream that one’s beard has grown very long is interpreted as grief, distress, debt, and regret. Whoever sees himself being pulled downward by his beard, his appointed time has drawn near and his life has been completed. Seeing part of one’s beard torn out and the place left bare is not interpreted as good.

Seeing in a dream that one’s beard has been cut signifies negligence concerning religion. Seeing one’s beard shaved is interpreted in three ways: if one is in debt, one pays the debt; if one is ill, one recovers; and if one has a distress, it passes.

Seeing in a dream that one is holding someone by the beard, if no pain is felt, means that the dreamer will work throughout his life under the command of the man holding his beard. According to some, this dream is not interpreted as good. Seeing oneself chew one’s beard with one’s teeth signifies lack of reason; and it signifies that whoever puts his beard into his mouth without biting it with his teeth is in need of repentance and giving thanks.

Seeing in a dream that one’s beard is falling out signifies that one will die suddenly; seeing oneself apply pleasant scents to one’s beard signifies that one conducts one’s affairs thoughtfully; and seeing oneself comb and adorn another person’s beard signifies that some good will come from him. (Seeing oneself comb and beautify one’s own beard in a dream signifies uprightness in one’s affairs. Shaving the beard during the time of the Hajj is interpreted in the manner stated above.

A woman seeing herself bearded in a dream is interpreted in seven ways: if she is pregnant, she will have a male child; if she is not pregnant, she will never have a child; if she has a child, he will become a leader; if she is a widow, she will marry; if she is married, she will become a widow; and it signifies grief and immorality.

Seeing a young man’s beard turn white in a dream signifies that someone from the unseen will arrive. Seeing oneself pluck the white hairs from one’s beard signifies that one will benefit others.

The whitening of the hair and beard in a dream signifies long life. Seeing oneself dye one’s beard signifies concealing one’s faults from the people; seeing oneself wish to dye the beard with mud or something similar signifies that the things one strives to conceal from the people will be revealed.

According to another narration: The beard seen in a dream signifies wealth and honor for a man. Whoever sees in a dream that his beard has grown and reached his belly will acquire property and fame, and while acquiring these he will suffer hardship in proportion to the amount found in his beard.

Whoever sees in a dream that his beard has grown in a shaped, becoming, and handsome manner suitable to his clothing will attain honor, fame, beauty, property, power, and a pleasant livelihood. If he sees that the sides of his beard have grown while its middle has not, he will obtain property that he will prepare for someone else. If he sees that his beard has grown beyond its proper measure, it signifies his debt, grief, and sorrow.

If one sees in a dream that his beard has grown so long that it has fallen to the ground, it signifies the death of the owner of the beard. Some interpreters said that whoever sees in a dream that his beard has grown and become very hairy will have an increase in his life and property. If his beard reaches his navel, it signifies that he does not obey and submit to Allah (Exalted is He). If his beard is seen to be more than one fistful in length, it signifies that the person is hypocritical.

Whoever sees in a dream that the hairs of his beard are excessively black will become wealthy. If, although his beard is black, he sees its color as dark green, he will possess property whose amount and extent cannot be measured, but he himself will be rebellious and tyrannical.

Whoever sees in a dream that his beard is close to yellow will fall into poverty and illness. Whoever sees in a dream that he has taken a man’s beard with his hand and pulled it will become heir to that man’s property. If a child who has not reached puberty sees himself bearded, the child will die before reaching puberty. If one sees his own beard as sparse and light, yet not unbecoming, he will pay his debt if he is in debt. If his affairs are difficult, they will become easy. If he is in grief and sorrow, his sorrow will depart.

If one sees in a dream that his beard is very scant and unbecoming, his honor will depart and he will become despised and abased among the people. If he sees that half of his own beard has gone, some of his dignity and honor, or half of his property, will depart.

Whoever sees in a dream that half of his beard has been shaved will become poor and lose his fame. If an unknown young man shaves someone’s beard in a dream, that person’s fame and rank will be destroyed by the hand of a known enemy, his namesake, or someone resembling him. If the person shaving his beard is old, his fame will depart through the hand of a person who is exalted and powerful.

Whoever sees in a dream that he cuts another man’s beard will consume that man’s inheritance. If he sees that he takes something from his beard and eats it, he will become heir to that man in proportion to the amount of that thing.

Whoever sees in a dream that his beard is white will attain honor and great fame. If one sees someone’s beard becoming white while some blackness still remains in it, it signifies that person’s steadfastness and dignity.

Whoever sees in a dream that no trace of blackness remains in his beard will become poor. His fame and position will leave his hands. Seeing one’s wife bearded in a dream signifies an increase in that person’s property or his son’s property, and illness in his wife. Some interpreters said that seeing a beard on a wife in a dream indicates that the woman will give birth to a male child; and if that woman already has a male child, that child will be among the best of his family.

If a married woman sees herself bearded in a dream, it signifies that her husband will disappear; if she is a widow, that she will marry a capable man suited to her condition; if a pregnant woman sees this dream, that she will give birth to a male child; and if she has a dispute or enmity, that she will prevail, take the place of men, and perform work like a man.

Seeing oneself pluck out one’s beard in a dream signifies that the property in one’s possession will be lost. Whoever sees in a dream that he shaves his beard and hair at once, if he is ill, will find healing. If he is in debt, he will pay his debt. If he is in grief and sorrow, his grief and sorrow will depart.

Whoever sees in a dream that he takes one or two handfuls from his beard and that nothing is diminished from it will obtain property from a person possessing fame and power. If someone sees in a dream that he has shortened his beard a little, some of his property will depart in the amount that he cut from that beard. The beard signifies dignity. Sometimes the beard signifies a man’s shop, means of livelihood, clothing, the compensation incumbent upon him, his earnings, and his benefit.

If someone sees in a dream that he cuts and shortens his beard with his mouth, his grief and sorrow will lengthen. The beard is something by which an oath is sworn. The beard signifies truthfulness, falsehood, miserliness, and generosity. If someone sees a white hair in his beard in a dream, this dream signifies frightening and warning him because of the sin he has committed. Sometimes the whiteness of the beard signifies illness or incapacity. If a person whose beard is white while awake sees it become black in a dream, it signifies joy, strength, and acting with force.

Seeing in a dream that one’s beard has grown contrary to custom signifies that the dreamer is occupied with play or spends his property in an unsuitable place. The beard signifies repentance for the sinful and guidance for the astray.

A beard growing from a woman in a dream signifies that the woman will become masculine, or that she is shameless and does what must be avoided. The beard signifies long life for a small child.

Ibn Sirin: Seeing a beard in a dream signifies might, honor, wealth, and esteem. A long and handsome beard signifies an increase in property and dignity; cutting the beard signifies loss of property or falling from esteem.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.
