To see a book in a dream signifies power and strength, a friend and companion with whom one gets along well, deliverance from grief and sorrow, recovery from diseases of the heart and body, an enlightened mind, knowledge, and wisdom.

To see a book with its pages open in a dream signifies widespread news; a closed book signifies concealed news. Regardless of whose hand it is seen in, a book denotes joyful tidings and auspicious developments.

To see a book rolled up in one’s hand in a dream signifies death; a book seen in the right hand or on the right side signifies deliverance from distress, cheapness, and a year of abundance; a book in the left hand signifies feeling regret for a deed one has done.

To take a book from someone’s hand with the right hand in a dream signifies receiving from that person, or from one of his rank, something that will occasion joy. A person holding an Arabic book or a copy of the Qur’an—if he is an unbeliever—will be disgraced together with grief and sorrow; if such a book is in the hand of a Muslim, or if that Muslim reads such a book, it signifies goodness and righteousness, joy, and uprightness in conduct.

To see a Persian book in a dream signifies grief and sorrow; to see a book descending from the sky signifies good if its contents and tidings are good, and evil if they are evil. A book descending from the sky is interpreted as the Noble Qur’an and its ordinances.

To see a bound book whose contents are unknown in a dream signifies a concealed transaction and cheating in one’s work and craft. To see manuscripts sent down apart from the four Divine Books signifies knowledge, guidance, true tidings, testimony, and imams through following whom guidance is attained.

What does it mean to see a book in a dream? It is interpreted as attaining strength and rising in rank. For middle-aged men, seeing a book signifies entering upon a different experience. For young women, this dream signifies success and advancement in working life. For older women, it is interpreted as comfort and a peaceful future.

To see or read a book in a dream is interpreted as strength. Whoever sees himself reading a book in his dream will be in a strong position against his enemies. To see oneself arranging one’s books on a shelf or in a bookcase signifies that one’s knowledge and experience are continually made use of in the works one undertakes.

To see oneself entertaining one’s child by reading him a storybook in a dream signifies that one will rejoice upon receiving glad tidings. To see a book in one’s lap in the form of a notebook, whose pages cannot be read or upon which there is no writing, signifies suffering loss from a work in which one is engaged.

To see a closed book beside oneself in a dream signifies that one’s fortune is closed and one’s earnings will decrease; to see a book with its pages open beside oneself signifies that one’s sustenance will be abundant and one’s earnings plentiful. To see oneself holding a book written in a foreign language which one cannot read because one does not know the language signifies receiving bad news from somewhere and not understanding the cause of that news.

To see oneself buying a book from a bookseller in a dream is interpreted as learning many new things concerning this world and the Hereafter from a person possessing knowledge. To see oneself tearing a book that was given to one or that one purchased signifies being known among the people as an evil person; to see oneself burning a book signifies that one’s affairs will deteriorate and one’s livelihood will become straitened.

To see a book with a white binding in one’s hand in a dream signifies emerging into ease; to see a blue book signifies hoping for something in a matter; to see a green book signifies the strength of one’s religious faith; to see a book with a red binding signifies being a person devoted to amusement; to see that a book is black signifies the death of one of the household; to see a yellow book signifies illness. Some interpreters interpret a book as a friend.

To see that one possesses a book in a dream signifies a good friend if it is written in a language that one can read; if it is written in an unknown foreign language, it signifies a bad friend.

To see a book descend from the sky to oneself in a dream signifies that one is upon the path of Allah (C.C.). To see a book of Qur’anic exegesis in one’s hand signifies the soundness of one’s affairs; to see oneself reading exegesis signifies that difficulties will be resolved; to see a book of jurisprudence in one’s hand signifies being near the ruler or in his presence, and having one’s word prevail.

To see oneself holding and reading a religious book in a dream signifies possessing knowledge concerning religion and withdrawing one’s hand from the world in order to work for the Hereafter; to see oneself reading a book of supplications and sermons signifies that one’s prayer will be accepted and that one will attain what one desires; to see oneself reading a historical tale signifies that the people look upon one with an evil eye; to see oneself reading a medical book signifies that one’s deteriorated affairs will be put right.

To see oneself reading books on astrology in a dream signifies being occupied with the affairs of this world; reading books on geometry signifies being renowned among the people; reading books on arithmetic signifies being occupied with worldly and monetary affairs.

According to Ibn Kathir: To see bound books whose contents are unknown is interpreted as benefit. If what they concern is known, their interpretation is as we have written above. To see bound books is good, provided that, while awake, there has been no disapproved circumstance such as tearing, burning, or soiling the books.

To accumulate many books in a dream signifies becoming a possessor of knowledge. If one reads the books one has collected, this indication becomes true. If one merely collects them without reading them, and the books remain simply bound as they are, it means that one’s knowledge is without foundation.

To see oneself binding a book with one’s own hand in a dream signifies doing a kindness to a person.

According to another narration: To see a book in a dream signifies strength. Therefore, whoever sees a book in his hand attains strength. If the book is open, it signifies widespread news; if it is closed, concealed news. If the book is in the hand of a male child, it is glad tidings. If it is in the hand of a woman, it means awaiting a joyful matter. If the book is open while the woman is veiled, it is news commanding the dreamer to guard himself. If the woman is beautiful and perfumed, it signifies news containing praise of him.

Whoever sees a rolled-up book in his hand in a dream will soon die. Whoever sees himself receiving a written message from the leader of the Muslims attains government, sovereignty, and a blessing to be envied. If a person who has an argument and enmity with someone, or a confused matter between them, sees his book on his right side, it signifies that the other person will bring proof and witnesses. If the dreamer is in torment and distress, it signifies that he will be delivered. If the dreamer is grieved on account of something or is not in his homeland, it signifies that his affair will be made easy and that he will return swiftly to his family.

Whoever sees his book on his left side in a dream will regret one of his deeds. A book seen on the right side signifies a year of cheapness and abundance. If a man takes a book from someone with his right hand in a dream, he will receive from that person something which he loves greatly, or something from that person’s side.

Whoever sees that he has the Noble Qur’an or an Arabic book in his hand in a dream will fall into grief, sorrow, and distress. If a person sees himself tearing and cutting a book, his grief and sorrow will depart and he will attain goodness.

Whoever sees a Persian book in his hand in a dream will be afflicted by distress and severity. If a person sees in a dream that a book has descended to him from the sky, he is interpreted according to what he understands from that book or according to what comes to his mind when it descends from the sky. If what he understands from it or what comes to his mind is good, it is interpreted as good; if it is evil, it is interpreted as evil. Sometimes a book signifies a friend with whom the person gets along well; sometimes it signifies deliverance from grief and sorrow and recovery from illness.

To see a bound book whose contents are unknown in a dream signifies cheating in one’s profession, a concealed transaction, or a woman who is censured on account of her age. This dream also signifies that you will succeed and rise in rank. You will gain everyone’s appreciation and rise in station.
