The Colors of Horses

Seyyid Süleyman: To see an iron-colored animal signifies fame. Whoever mounts such a horse will acquire either good or bad renown. In a dream, to mount an iron-colored animal with a white blaze on its forehead signifies that one will interfere in the affairs of a great personage.

Whoever paints his iron-colored horse another color shall see good. Whoever mounts a black horse attains safety and receives aid from the state. He interprets mounting a bay foal as signifying a wealthy slave girl.

Abu Sa’id al-Wa’iz said: An iron-colored horse or gelding is of lesser worth than horses of other colors. Therefore, whoever sees that he has mounted an iron-colored horse will encounter difficulty in all his affairs and will be rejected. The yağız, that is, black horse, is honor, esteem, and property.

To mount a yağız horse in a dream signifies a journey, and thereby attaining good and benefit. A bay horse is strength, relief, and honor. He interprets mounting a bay horse, especially a dark bay horse, as great blessing and rank.

Kirmani said: A red horse signifies safety in religion. It is to gain position and honor through the Sultan. Yet Kirmani interprets mounting a red horse as a slight disturbance in honor and esteem. A dun horse is illness. Whoever mounts it will fall ill.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has mounted a female dun foal will marry a woman who is diseased and of a despondent disposition. A gray horse signifies very great good and rank. If it is a female foal, it signifies a beautiful wife of good character.

It can be read as a sign of easing, receiving support, gaining morale, or a fruitful development.

Underestimating opportunities, succumbing to comfort, or being late may reduce the positive effect.
