To see a standard in a dream signifies an honorable occupation and a renowned governorship; the standard signifies a scholar, a leader, a hero, a valiant man, a generous man, a righteous man, and one whom others follow; a military standard signifies a learned man, a ruler, or a wealthy person whom others obey; a red standard signifies war; a green standard signifies a blessed journey; a white standard signifies rain; a black standard, if seen at the front of the army, signifies absolute victory, and if seen upon a pole, scant rainfall; a yellow banner signifies weak soldiers unprepared for war.

(Also, to see a military standard in a dream indicates that you will go on a business journey during which you will earn much money.

The interpretation of seeing a standard in a dream is a scholar, a devout, wealthy, and courageous person, or one possessing qualities that everyone envies. Whoever sees that he is holding a standard in his hand will befriend a person bearing these attributes and will receive good from him. To see the standard falling from his hand is interpreted in the opposite manner.

According to Ibn Kathir, to see that one has a standard in his hand signifies a journey. To see a great statesman entrusting him with a standard signifies high rank, honor, and esteem if the standard is white or green.

To see a yellow standard in a dream signifies illness, while a red one signifies glory and honor. Seeing only a standard in a dream signifies that one is upon the right path.

According to Abu Sa'id al-Wa'iz, seeing a standard in a dream is interpreted, for a woman, as a husband. If a woman sees in her dream that she has a standard in her hand, she will marry. To see colored standards in a dream signifies blessed rains.

According to another narration, the standard seen in a dream signifies a renowned matter or leadership. The standard signifies an imam, an ascetic, an intelligent man, a wealthy man, a generous man, or a strong person whom others follow. If the standard is red, the dreamer will experience joy and festivity through a person possessing the qualities mentioned above. If the standard is black, he will attain greatness through the aforementioned man.

Whoever sees a standard in a dream will become known among the people of the city. For a woman, seeing a standard signifies a husband. If a woman sees in a dream that she has buried three standards, she will marry, in succession, three men from among the noble people. With their deaths, she will remain behind. The standard seen in a dream signifies marriage, and for a pregnant woman, a child. Numerous standards signify wind and rain. The owner of a standard is interpreted as a judge. If a person awaiting appointment to the judgeship sees in a dream that he is carrying a standard, he will attain the judgeship.

Whoever sees in a dream that a standard has been made for him—if he is worthy of the standard—it signifies that he will render a beneficial service. To see a standard in one’s own hand signifies that he will contract a marriage. Some interpreters said that if a person who is quarreling with someone sees a standard in a dream, it signifies that he will fight with his adversary and will be unable to withstand him.

Whoever sees that he has a spear in his hand and that a standard is fixed upon its tip, or whose child sees such a thing, will die. If a person sees a standard upon a house in a dream, someone in that house will die. Whoever sees that he is carrying a great standard will marry a woman. If the standard is red, the woman is an evil woman; if it is white, she is a good woman from a noble family, chaste and righteous; if it is black, she is ill-fated. If the standard has several colors, the woman is a sinful woman.

Whoever sees in a dream that a standard has been given to him will be removed from his position. Standards signify kings, commanders, judges, and scholars. If a person who does not know the Sunnah of Allah and His Messenger sees in a dream that he knows the Sunnahs of Allah and His Messenger, it signifies grace and mercy that will come to him from Allah. If a person sees in a dream that he knows magic or things resembling it, it signifies that he is engaged in innovation and misguidance.
