Marriage

In a dream, marrying generally signifies assistance that will come from Allah (Exalted is He); the exertion made in order to attain a high position; and, for one who is in debt, sorrow and grief. To marry a woman who is known and married in a dream signifies that you will obtain benefit from that woman’s husband and that she will be useful to you in one of your affairs. To marry an unknown woman in a dream signifies changing one’s home, the attainment of one’s aim, and coming to understand what one’s own purpose is and what one desires.

To marry a deceased person in a dream signifies the realization of something of which the person had despaired. If a sick person sees in a dream that he has married, it signifies his death or that his illness will become somewhat more severe. To marry in a dream someone whom one is not permitted to marry signifies becoming the head of the members of one’s family.

To marry four women in a dream signifies visiting the grave of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

(Also, whoever sees in his dream that he marries amid prosperity will become wealthy. To see the marriage registrar during a marriage in a dream announces a person who will play a role in the dreamer’s life. Whoever sees in a dream that he has married a young person, man or woman, will soon become wealthy and attain abundance and prosperity.

To become betrothed in order to marry in a dream is evidence that one will derive benefit from a great person. Whoever sees in a dream that he has met with a young person and decided to marry will attain his desire.

To see oneself secretly speaking words to an unmarried woman in a dream signifies that one wishes to marry that woman; to see oneself wishing to marry a married woman and desiring her signifies that one will not obtain what one awaits in this world; and to see oneself wishing to marry a woman, with her consenting to it as well, signifies that one will attain one’s desire. To see in a dream that one wishes to marry a middle-aged woman signifies immense wealth.

According to Kirmani: To see oneself marrying a woman other than one’s wife signifies wealth and benefit to the degree of that woman’s beauty. To see oneself marrying a woman whom one does not know, has not seen, and whose name one has not even heard signifies that either the dreamer himself or someone in his house will die.

To see oneself become a son-in-law living in his wife’s household, without seeing one’s spouse, signifies death. To see oneself marrying an old woman or one’s own sister signifies exceedingly great good; and to see oneself marrying a deceased woman and entering into consummation with her is evidence that one’s affairs will become confused and one’s life will be ruined.

To see in a dream that the man or woman whom one has married belongs to another religion signifies that one will commit an act counted as a sin. Whoever sees in his dream that he has married a prostitute will marry an immoral and ill-tempered woman, and this portends that his later life will be spent in distress.

If a married woman sees in a dream that she has married another man, this is interpreted as her giving birth to a child. According to another narration: To marry in a dream is a sign of assistance that will come about through Allah, the Exalted and Most High. To marry in a dream, if it takes place in the presence of witnesses, signifies making a promise before Allah, the Exalted and Most High, to perform a righteous deed. If the marriage contract is performed in the marketplace in accordance with custom, it signifies attaining a renown that will raise one’s station and esteem.

Marriage in a dream is also interpreted as a craft. Therefore, whoever sees that he has married a woman and that woman has died will engage in a craft; yet while doing so, toil, sorrow, and grief will befall him. If a person marries four women in a dream, he will visit the grave of our Prophet.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has married a Jewish woman will work at a craft, and his mind and worldly outlook will be open. Whoever sees that he has married a Christian woman will be very compassionate and understanding in his view of the world. If the woman he has married is a fire-worshipper, she signifies a craft having no connection with religion.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has married a woman who commits adultery, it signifies that he himself commits adultery. Whoever sees that he has married a woman who is attached to him and breaks his heart will come under a heavy burden. If a man sees in a dream that he has married a woman and taken her to his own house, that man will obtain property from the woman’s husband. If he sees that he has married the woman and that he himself has gone to the woman’s house, the woman’s former husband will obtain property and goodness from the man who married her in the dream.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has married a deceased woman will attain an objective of which he had despaired. If a sick man marries in a dream, does not see the woman he has married, and her name is not mentioned, that man will die. Whoever sees in a dream that he has married his mother to a man will sell his property. If a pregnant woman sees in a dream that she has married, she will give birth to a girl. If she is displayed to the people like a bride, she will bring forth a child. If a woman who has a male child sees in a dream that she has married, she will marry off her child. A woman who is widowed from her husband or a married woman who marries in a dream will attain goodness.

If a woman sees in a dream that she has married a deceased person, she will become poor and those around her will disperse. Whoever sees in a dream that he has married a deceased woman and entered upon her will attain an affair that he had missed and of which he had despaired; and the quality of that affair will be in proportion to the woman’s beauty.

Whoever sees that he has married a woman while already having one or several wives, if he sees the woman he married, will attain goodness, wealth, and authority in proportion to that woman’s beauty and form. If he does not recognize the woman and her name is not told to him, and the woman is nevertheless being prepared for him, it signifies that the man himself, or someone under his authority, will die. Whoever sees that he has married the daughter of an unknown old man will attain much goodness. If a woman sees that she has married an unknown old man, she too will attain much goodness. If she is ill, she will recover.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has married a deceased woman whom he is forbidden to marry will visit his relatives. If that woman is alive, the person will not visit his relatives. Whoever sees in a dream that he has married a woman who is forbidden to him will become the leader of his family.

To see oneself making preparations for marriage, that is, for a wedding, is interpreted in dreams as follows: if it is one’s own wedding, it signifies unpaid work that one will undertake for a charitable foundation or a community; whereas to see another person’s wedding preparations signifies that relations between oneself and that person will deteriorate. The interpretation of seeing oneself marry one’s already-married spouse again in a dream is that the peace in the dreamer’s home will be disturbed because of his harmful habits.

To see oneself weeping while marrying in a dream announces that the dreamer will meet a new person, become very happy, and marry that person. The interpretation of a wedding ring in a dream is a faithful beloved; if the wedding ring is silver, it signifies a faithful spouse devoted to religion; and if the ring is gold, it signifies that a marriage contract will soon be concluded. Whoever sees in a dream that, while marrying, he has renounced marriage at his own wedding will devote himself to knowledge and spiritual understanding. According to another interpretation, he will complete a task he has begun without difficulty.

Ibn Sirin: To see oneself married in a dream signifies Allah’s gracious favor, blessing, and rank. For a bachelor, it signifies the glad tidings of marriage; and for a married person, an increase in wealth.

With the right perspective, it can signify restoring balance, recovery, and developing a new understanding.

Uncertainty, indecision, or a tendency to take on excessive burden may be observed.
