According to Kirmani, seeing the earth collapse and the ground split signifies that an affliction will befall that place at the hands of a tyrannical person, or that a great calamity such as privation, a locust infestation, or fear of the enemy will occur.

To see in a dream that the earth has split open and collapsed, and that one has fallen into it, signifies that an affliction will befall him, or that he will embark upon a journey from which he cannot return. To see the earth split open, swallow the buildings upon it, and then close together again signifies that a great disaster will occur in that place and that many people will die.
