Mouth

It signifies the beginnings and outcomes of affairs. The mouth is interpreted as the beginning and key of every matter, the principal avenue of one’s livelihood, and the source of strength.

For the mouth to utter words in a dream signifies words spoken concerning good and evil; whatever enters the mouth signifies the person’s sustenance; the closing or locking of the mouth signifies going astray after guidance; the disappearance of the mouth signifies death; and for a sick person to see his mouth large and beautiful signifies health and well-being.

To see a mouth in a dream sometimes signifies that a pregnant woman will give birth and be delivered. To see the edge of the mouth is interpreted as fleeing from and escaping something, and as escaping by fleeing from the dangers that one may encounter. Whoever sees that his mouth smells foul will utter evil words.

To see another person’s mouth smelling foul signifies uttering ugly and improper words. Mouth odor, in its general interpretation, signifies distress and suffering.

To see the mouth closed signifies a person of foul speech. A well-formed and beautiful mouth is good news. An ugly mouth, however, is unpleasant and distressing news.

To see oneself placing something medicinal in one’s mouth signifies being upon the right path in religion; to see oneself placing something edible in one’s mouth signifies being upon the right path; to see oneself eating something disgusting signifies grief; and to place something sweet in one’s mouth signifies attaining wholesome sustenance. To see oneself taking something bitter into one’s mouth is interpreted as unlawful property.

According to Ibn Sirin: To see a bond over the mouth, leaving it closed, is interpreted in five ways: death, severe illness, dumbness, silence, and nightmare.

To see in one’s dream that one’s mouth is crooked and that, despite struggling to straighten and restore it, one is unable to do so, is by no means good. This dream is not interpreted favorably. To see one’s mouth enlarged is exceedingly good. To see it made smaller signifies, on the contrary, narrowness in one’s sustenance and possessions. To see that one’s mouth smells pleasant signifies that one will speak beautiful words; to see it smelling foul signifies that one will speak evil words, profanities, and spiteful words.

To see the flesh of one’s mouth rotting and falling away signifies calamity and harm. To see things coming out of one’s mouth signifies, if the thing that comes out is good, good speech; but if it is an evil thing, profanity, abuse, and reviling. To see a seal placed upon one’s mouth signifies that, if one does not know who sealed it, the dreamer should refrain from uttering loose and idle talk; and if he knows who placed the seal, it signifies that he should not speak recklessly or abusively against that man, lest he suffer some evil from him.

According to Ja‘far al-Sadiq: To see a mouth in a dream is interpreted in seven ways: a road, a dwelling, a treasury of knowledge, ease in one’s work, a market, a doorkeeper, and a notable of the state.

To see a bit in one’s mouth is interpreted as fasting. This interpretation applies according to the dreamer’s being devout. But if he is an evil person, it is a warning.

According to Ibn Kathir: To see a mouth in a dream is interpreted as the threshold of knowledge, a place of preaching and remembrance, or the place from which blasphemy and rebellion may also issue. To see clear water flowing from the mouth signifies that, if the person is righteous, the people will benefit from his knowledge; and if he is not, he will win everyone’s respect through beautiful words. To see blood issuing from the mouth and pus flowing from it signifies that he will hurt and offend everyone with his tongue and words, and will incur sin through the words issuing from his mouth. To see syrup or milk flowing from the mouth signifies that he is occupied with remembrance and worship, and that he will please everyone with his sweet speech. To see bitter, sour, or hot water flowing from the mouth signifies that he will speak evil words and deceive the people, or hurt them with harsh and spiteful speech.

According to Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi: To see a mouth in a dream is regarded as the beginning and end of all affairs. Every word uttered in the dream signifies good or evil for its owner. The thing he eats—that is, puts into his mouth—is his portion and sustenance.

To see in a dream that no word comes out of one’s mouth, or that one is unable to speak despite wishing to do so, signifies one’s sinfulness; to see oneself speaking excessively signifies industriousness.

To see one’s mouth distorted signifies that his affairs will fall into difficulty because of the words he has spoken. To see one’s mouth disappear from one’s face signifies that he will suffer a calamity. To see the place of one’s mouth changed signifies that he is not upon the right path. If he sees something sweet flowing from his mouth, it signifies that the thing he has imagined will become a reality.

According to another narration: If a person sees in a dream that his mouth has disappeared, it signifies that person’s death. If a sick person sees that his mouth is large and beautiful, it signifies that the sick person will be safe and live. Sometimes the disappearance of the mouth signifies the ruin of the dwelling.

Ibn Sirin: To see a mouth in a dream signifies speech, conversation, the gate of livelihood, knowledge, or wealth. A beautiful mouth signifies beautiful speech; an ugly mouth, ugly speech; and the closing of the mouth signifies silence.

With the right perspective, it can signify restoring balance, recovery, and developing a new understanding.

Uncertainty, indecision, or a tendency to take on excessive burden may be observed.
