Ja‘far al-Sadiq interprets the pomegranate in three ways: accumulated property, a good spouse, and a beautiful land.
Abu Sa‘id al-Wa‘iz says: To see a pomegranate in a dream is interpreted, for a woman, as visitation and jewels; for a man, as a child; for state officials, as promotion; for officers, as the execution of their commands; for the peasant, as fertility in sowing; for the merchant, as abundant profit; and for the common people, as good governance.
According to another tradition: A sweet pomegranate seen in a dream signifies accumulated property, a wife, a cultivated district, property, and a child. The pomegranate is interpreted, according to the condition of the dreamer, as ten, one hundred, or one thousand dirhams. To see a pomegranate is interpreted for a sultan as a city; when he breaks it open, he conquers a city. The peel of the pomegranate is the wall of that city; its seeds are its people; and its interior is the wealth of the city.
If a person sees in a dream that he eats pomegranate peel, he will recover from his illness. The pomegranate is also interpreted as a locked chest. At times, the pomegranate signifies the hive of honeybees and beeswax. If the seeds of the pomegranate are white, it signifies silver; if they are red, it signifies gold. When the pomegranate is interpreted as a wife, that wife is beautiful. If the pomegranate is whole and sound, the woman is a virgin. If the pomegranate is split, the woman is a widow. A foul-smelling pomegranate is an unchaste woman. A sour pomegranate is unlawful property. Some have said that it signifies grief and sorrow.
If a person sells pomegranates in a dream, that man prefers this world to the Hereafter. The pomegranate tree is a devout, majestic, and wealthy person. Its thorns restrain that person from sin and fornication. If that person is a ruler, he will prevail over his enemies. If he is a merchant, his trade will prosper greatly. Cutting down a pomegranate tree signifies failing to visit one’s relatives. Some interpreters have said that the sweetness of the pomegranate signifies sustenance acquired with difficulty and toil; its sourness, grief and sorrow; and that a mixture of sourness and sweetness signifies doubtful property.
To see a pomegranate in a dream during winter, in cold weather, is auspicious. A red pomegranate is taken as abundance and wealth. If a young girl eats a sour pomegranate in her dream, she will fall in love. Yet the one she loves will not prove to be a particularly auspicious person. Whoever sees himself separating pomegranate seeds will earn abundant money.
