Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq: To see that you have entered a prison or dungeon and immediately emerged from it indicates that you shall attain your desire.

To see a familiar prison guard in a dream is an indication that you shall attain relief and that your end shall be good. [“(Joseph) said: ‘My Lord! Prison is dearer to me than that to which they invite me. And unless You avert their guile from me, I shall incline towards them and become of the ignorant.’”[121]]

To see that you are in an unknown dungeon in a dream denotes grief and sorrow. Indeed, Joseph (peace be upon him) said as follows: “A dungeon in a dream denotes death, affliction, testing one’s friends, and rejoicing one’s adversaries.”

Allamah Majlisi: To see that you are in prison and that chains have been fastened to your feet or your chin in a dream indicates that you shall be tried through imprisonment. To see that you are in prison and have been released denotes that you shall discharge your debts.

Ibn Sirin: To see that you are in a dungeon which you have never seen before in a dream denotes the appointed time of death. For an unknown dungeon in a dream signifies the grave.

To see yourself in a dungeon which you have seen before or whose location you know denotes distress and sorrow; to see that you are in a dungeon and that fetters have been fastened to your feet denotes that you shall undertake a task, but shall be delayed for a long time.

Kirmani: To see yourself in a dungeon which you have seen before in a dream denotes that, if you are a devout person, you shall gain esteem; and if you are not devout, you shall suffer distress and sorrow on account of certain matters.

To see yourself proceeding together with a prison guard, your arms fettered, denotes that a matter of yours which had previously been concluded shall be set right anew and that your affairs shall proceed smoothly.

Contemporary Ulema: To see a prison in a dream denotes that you are secure; to see yourself imprisoned unjustly denotes that you shall encounter someone who looks upon you with suspicion; to be delivered from prison denotes that you shall open a new page in your life.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.
