To see in a dream that one has been taken captive signifies that one covets another’s property, or denies one’s debt, or will be unhappy in marriage.

Whoever dreams that he has been taken captive by someone weaker than himself will be left helpless, and his efforts will come to nothing.

The return to their homeland, without any harm having befallen them, of persons taken captive in war is interpreted as an increase in respect for freedoms and opposing views in that country.

To see in your dream that you have been taken captive by someone known to you signifies that you will leave a task you dislike; to see that you have freed a captive signifies that you will engage in a task you love; to see that you have been taken captive by the enemy in a war signifies that you will enter into a partnership with someone for a certain undertaking; and to see that you have taken a captive in war signifies that you will withdraw from a partnership or resign from public service.

To see in a dream that one has been taken captive in one’s own house indicates that enforcement proceedings will be brought against one’s house on account of a debt.

According to another narration, being captive or seeing a captive also signifies unhappiness in marriage. There is no good in seeing oneself captive in a dream. The dreamer will fall into severe distress and sorrow. Seeing many captives signifies rank, advancement, and exercising authority.

According to al-Salimi: Whoever sees in a dream that he is captive and has escaped from it will be delivered from sorrow and distress. Whoever sees that he has done good to a captive will perform a righteous deed, and what he has done will be accepted in the sight of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). To see that a captive has delivered one from captivity indicates that one has secured one’s Hereafter.

According to Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi: To see in a dream that one has been taken captive is interpreted as sorrow, distress, and straitness. Whoever sees that he has been taken captive in war will fall into difficulty in earning his livelihood and into sorrow. Whoever sees that he has taken a captive will cause another person to fall into distress.

To see in a dream that one has fled from captivity, or that captivity has ended and one has been delivered, indicates passing from want to prosperity and from sorrow to joy.

According to another narration: To be captive in a dream as a guest in a beautiful place resembling Paradise signifies goodness and sustenance. At times, captivity in beautiful places is interpreted as gaining knowledge of secrets.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.
