Calling the Adhān
To call the adhān in a dream signifies going on pilgrimage to the Hajj. If the person calling the adhān is unmarried, it means that he will marry. According to Ibn Sirin: Whoever sees himself calling the adhān in a known place, Allah, Glorious and Exalted is He, will grant him the blessing of seeing the Kaʿbah. Seeing oneself call the adhān in an unknown place is not good. Whoever calls the adhān from a minaret invites the people to worship. Calling the adhān while lying in one’s bed signifies that one regards one’s spouse and children with contempt and treats them badly.
To call the adhān in a dream signifies truthful speech, a virtuous deed, power and strength being in the hands of their rightful possessors, and assuming charge of a matter. The dream of the adhān may also signify poverty, bankruptcy, death, betrayal, anxiety, deficiency in religion, and hypocrisy (corruption and sedition).
Calling the adhān upon one’s neighbour’s roof in a dream signifies that one will suspect one of one’s neighbours; seeing oneself call the adhān before the door of the ruler signifies that one’s crime will be exposed.
Seeing oneself call the adhān in a known place in a dream signifies performing the Hajj or the ʿUmrah. Seeing oneself call the adhān in an unknown place is not good; if the dreamer is one who does not refrain from sins, he will steal something.
Calling the adhān among the houses of a quarter where there is no place appointed for calling it signifies that one meddles in everyone’s affairs; calling the adhān together with all the members of the household signifies that an evil will befall the household.
Calling the adhān one has recited with additions or omissions signifies that one will undertake a matter to which one has no right; seeing a small child call the adhān signifies that lies and slander will be heard concerning his mother and father.
Calling the adhān in a bathhouse signifies deficiency in religion; calling the adhān among companions travelling along the road as though singing signifies that, although they are innocent, they will all be accused together of theft.
Seeing oneself perform the prayer and call the adhān at the same time in a dream signifies that, if one is imprisoned, one will be released.
According to Jābir al-Maghribī: Calling the adhān upon the summit of a mountain signifies speaking a truthful word concerning a person of worth; calling the adhān in the prayer niche signifies setting out on a journey and returning safely, and that one’s wish will be fulfilled.
Listening to the adhān being called in a dream signifies continuing to perform the prayer. Seeing oneself call the adhān without rising from one’s bed signifies despising the members of one’s household, belittling them, and scolding them.
According to Ismāʿīl al-Asʿas: It is auspicious to see that the adhān has been called, the prayer has been performed, and a congregation has gathered and stood together for prayer.
According to al-Nābulusī: Calling the adhān in a dream, or seeing and hearing it being called, signifies attaining a high rank, obtaining a good position, and having one’s word and command prevail everywhere; for an unmarried person, it signifies a beautiful spouse; and if it occurs during the months of the Hajj, it signifies going on the Hajj.
Turning toward a direction other than the qiblah and calling the adhān in a language other than Arabic signifies false reports, the outbreak of disorder in the land, and hearing bad news.
If a woman is seen calling the adhān from a minaret in a dream, or if this dream is seen by another person, it is interpreted as the occurrence of an evil event in that land or quarter. Seeing small children call the adhān, particularly outside its proper time, is interpreted as the government falling into the hands of the ignorant. It signifies attaining a great position.
Pronouncing the iqāmah for the prayer in a dream signifies that one’s wish will be fulfilled, that if one is distressed one will be delivered from it, and that one will draw away from grief.
According to another narration: If a person calls the adhān in his dream, it signifies that he will go on the Hajj during the months of the Hajj.
Calling the adhān in the middle of a street or in the marketplace signifies poverty; if the dreamer is a merchant, it signifies that he will become bankrupt. Calling the adhān in a hollow or deep place is interpreted as hypocrisy.
The adhān most often signifies true news. Seeing oneself call the adhān toward a direction other than the qiblah or in a language other than Arabic signifies being involved in innovation.
If a woman sees herself calling the adhān from the minaret of a mosque in a dream, a great innovation will appear in that land. Calling the adhān from a minaret signifies calling people to servitude to Allah and attaining one’s wish.
Children calling the adhān outside its proper time in a dream signifies that the people of that land will be invaded by the ignorant and the unworthy.
If a person sees himself calling the adhān from a minaret and is qualified for it, he will attain honour in proportion to the extent to which his voice is heard. If he is not qualified for it, his enemies will be numerous, yet he will succeed in overcoming them. If the dreamer is a merchant, he will profit in his commerce. The adhān signifies supplication, piety, obedience, virtuous deeds, security, and deliverance from the snares of Satan. If a person sees himself calling the adhān inside a well in a land of unbelievers, he invites the people of that land to the religion of Islam.
Whoever sees himself calling the adhān in a dream, if he is religious, commands the people to do good. If he is a sinner, he will be beaten. Whoever sees himself calling the adhān, yet no one responds to his call, signifies that he belongs to an unjust people.
The adhān being called in streets and marketplaces in a dream signifies a pure life and a pleasant livelihood. Some interpreters have said that a person who calls the adhān within a caravan will be accused of theft.
Again, calling the adhān in a dream signifies separation from a partner. Seeing oneself call the adhān in a ruined place signifies the rebuilding of that place and the gathering of a great multitude of people there.
Calling the adhān in a bathhouse in a dream is interpreted as suffering from malaria and fever. If one sees oneself reciting the adhān and the remembrance of Allah in a loud voice—especially if one’s voice is beautiful and sweet—and sees people listening to this adhān peacefully, it is interpreted as drawing near to eminent persons.
If one sees oneself call the adhān once or twice, pronounce the iqāmah, and perform the obligatory prayer, one will perform the Hajj and the ʿUmrah. Whoever sees himself adding to or omitting from the adhān, or altering the words of the adhān, will oppress people in proportion to the amount of his additions and omissions.
Whoever sees himself calling the adhān upon a wall invites people to reconciliation. If one sees a child call the adhān, the child’s mother and father will be delivered from falsehood.
If a person sees himself calling the adhān in a filthy place, he invites a foolish person to reconciliation, but that person will not accept it. Calling the adhān before a public building signifies calling those in authority to truth, justice, and fairness.
Calling the adhān in a marketplace signifies becoming bankrupt or the death of someone from the marketplace. Calling the adhān in a hollow signifies stirring up hypocrisy and committing corruption.
Calling the adhān upon a mountain in a dream signifies expressing a favourable opinion concerning a person holding high office, or attaining an exalted and respected position.
Calling the adhān or seeing it being called in a dream also signifies supplication, piety, purity, worship, performing virtuous deeds, protection from the evil of Satan, and reaching safety.
Pronouncing the iqāmah for the prayer in a dream signifies the fulfilment of the desired matter, deliverance from distress for one who is afflicted, and keeping one’s word.
