Sayyid Sulayman and Daniel (peace be upon him) have said: Seeing the sea in a dream necessarily denotes a caliph, a head of state, or a virtuous scholar. Seeing the sea pure, still, and smooth denotes a just ruler. If the sea is turbid, it denotes a merciless sovereign.

Seeing oneself drinking water from a still sea in a dream indicates that one will receive good from a just dignitary of the state or from his deputy. Drinking the whole sea in a dream denotes that, if one is worthy of it, one will acquire great wealth. If a common person sees such a dream, however, it is interpreted as great goodness.

Ibn Sirin, may Allah have mercy upon him, says: Whoever sees that he has entered the sea, sunk halfway into it, and had mud besmirch him will be afflicted with sorrow on account of the head of state or the state itself. Seeing in a dream that one cannot swim in the sea is interpreted as imprisonment.

Seeing in a dream that, while on the verge of drowning in the sea, no one comes to one’s aid, and at the same time seeing that one cannot see the shore, is a sign that one will be subjected to the evil of the state.

Seeing the sea in a dream denotes that one will not be able to escape a calamity. Seeing oneself sink into the sea and then emerge indicates that one will fall into difficulty in worldly affairs. Yet it denotes that after some time one will attain deliverance. Seeing the sea from afar and trying to approach it means that one will not attain the thing one desires. Seeing oneself walking upon the sea, while one’s feet do not become wet, indicates that one will be delivered from the torment of Hell and will become a person possessing piety.

Kirmani said: Drinking cold water from the sea is interpreted as a lawsuit or enmity. However, if the person who sees the dream is among the class of scholars, it denotes that his knowledge will increase. He will take his place among the entourage of the head of state and gain his trust.

Seeing in a dream that one is drinking hot water from the sea denotes that one will be visited by calamity and sorrow. If the water one drinks has a bad taste and odor, it indicates being defeated by an enemy.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.
