Mat

In a dream, seeing a mat signifies a gathering of friends and companions; sitting upon a mat signifies feeling regret over some matter, living a simple and humble life, and making one's livelihood through the sweat of one's brow and the labor of one's hands. A mat-maker denotes an engineer, painter, upholsterer or weaver, or one who solemnizes marriages. A mat is like a mattress. It signifies that the person will be delivered from distress. It is also interpreted according to the color of the mat.

Whoever sees in his dream that he is sitting upon a mat will feel sorrow and regret on account of a wrong he has committed. Whoever sees that he has wrapped himself in a mat thinks of no one but himself.

Some interpreters say: Whoever sees in a dream that he is sitting upon a mat will enter prison. Whoever sees that he has bought a mat does not leave the mosques for worship, and spends all his hours in prayer and supplication.

Seeing a newly woven mat in a dream is interpreted as a wife. Whoever buys a new mat and sits upon it will marry a woman. Seeing an old mat signifies deliverance from poverty. Whoever sees that he is lying or sitting upon an old but clean mat will be delivered from poverty.

Whoever sees in a dream that his mat has been stolen will lose his wife. Whoever sees that his mat has burned will see that his wife has died, or that a beneficial undertaking in his possession has slipped from his hands, or that he is inclined to abandon his worship.

Jaʿfar al-Sadiq (may Allah be pleased with him) interpreted seeing a mat in a dream in three ways: a contented wife, little benefit, and regret.

According to another report: Whoever sees in a dream that he is sitting upon a mat will regret the deed he has done. Whoever sees that he is wrapped in a mat will become distressed for some reason.

Ibn Sirin: Seeing a mat in a dream signifies the life of this world and a simple livelihood.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.

In the interpretation, the themes of work and responsibility, success and reputation, the emotional tone in the dream, and how the symbol concludes in the dream should be evaluated together.
