Swimming in the sea in a dream signifies attaining a result in knowledge for one who is qualified for it, achieving one’s aim for one who desires spiritual advancement, and entering government service.

According to another narration: If a learned person sees in a dream that he is swimming in the sea, he will attain the thing he desires and seeks in knowledge. If he swims in the sea and then comes ashore, and if he is seeking knowledge, he will abandon it. Swimming in the sea or river in a dream signifies the beauty of the dreamer’s religion and the soundness of his faith. Whoever sees that he is swimming on land will be imprisoned. He will remain in prison in proportion to the difficulty or ease he experiences in swimming and according to his nearness to the shore.

If one sees in a dream that he has entered the deep part of the sea and is swimming there in a beautiful and pleasant manner, he will enter into a great affair or attain a high office. Ibn Sīrīn: If a person of knowledge sees in a dream that he is swimming in the ocean, it signifies that he will attain his goals. Entering the sea and then returning to the shore signifies that he will embark upon the path of knowledge and then abandon it. Swimming in a dream may also signify entering prison. Swimming upon sand signifies imprisonment, the narrowing of living conditions in the prison, and suffering hardship in proportion to the difficulty of swimming in the dream. If a person sees in a dream that he is swimming inside his own house, it signifies that he will work for a ruthless, wicked, and tyrannical employer, become enslaved to his service through a work agreement, and that Almighty Allah will deliver him from these hardships. Fear of swimming in a dream signifies fear of a person in authority.

Fleeing from swimming signifies escaping from that person. Seeing oneself enter waters in which one can swim successfully signifies embarking upon a great project, leading an important undertaking, or attaining authority and power. Swimming on one’s back signifies repenting of sin. Swimming in the sea and finding its water still signifies serving a person in authority, though one’s work will bring nothing but hardship and the anger of one’s master. Nevertheless, if one succeeds in crossing the sea, it signifies that he will be delivered from dangers. Swimming in fear signifies distress, imprisonment, or illness according to the distance one must traverse. If one thinks in the dream that he cannot cross, it signifies his death.

If he displays courage while swimming, it signifies that he may be delivered from a perilous affair. Murky waters signify distress.

With the right perspective, it can signify restoring balance, recovery, and developing a new understanding.

Uncertainty, indecision, or a tendency to take on excessive burden may be observed.
