According to Ja‘far al-Sadiq, seeing a thief in a dream is interpreted in four ways: illness, imprisonment, misery, and falsehood. To see that one of one’s belongings has been stolen, without knowing who stole it, signifies that one will hear words of reproach from one’s elders on account of something one has done; to see the thief steal and carry away an object signifies that one has acquired unlawful property; to see oneself stealing property from a place together with the thief signifies that one will be dismissed from one’s employment; and to see oneself catch the thief while he is stealing something and take him to the police station signifies that one regrets an act one has committed.

To see one of one’s children summoned to the police station as a thief, or arrested and taken to prison, signifies that, if one has a sick person, he will die, or that one will suffer a great loss from somewhere.

If a person has a sick person in his house and sees a thief enter his house and take something, it indicates that the sick person will die. If one sees a thief enter a house and take nothing from it, it indicates that the sick person in that house will recover from his illness.
