The Torah
Seeing the Torah in a dream signifies the Christians and Jews whom we call the People of the Book, reuniting with one who has gone missing, and finding something that has been lost.
Seeing the Torah in its original form, unaltered, signifies seeing our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), attaining wisdom, knowledge, and guidance. Reading the Torah signifies taking an interest in deviant sects; seeing the Torah sometimes denotes committing treachery and failing to keep one’s word.
If one sees in a dream that one is reading the Torah, it is interpreted as forming a friendship with a Jewish person, doing business with him, or undertaking a task by following his advice.
Reading the Torah in a dream denotes that one will draw strength from eminent persons and gain goodness and benefit from them. Seeing oneself reading the Torah aloud, or seeing it being read aloud, signifies enmity and that, in the end, one’s wish will be fulfilled. Seeing that someone teaches one to read the Torah is interpreted as receiving goodness and benefit.
According to Abdulgani al-Nabulsi, seeing the Torah is interpreted as an old friend or a virtuous, eminent person. Seeing oneself reciting the Torah from memory, rather than from the book, denotes gaining victory after struggle. Whoever sees the Torah beside him will triumph over his enemy.
According to another narration: Seeing the Torah in a dream signifies reuniting with one who has gone missing and finding one’s lost property. At times, this dream signifies the People of the Book. If the one who sees the Torah is unmarried, he will marry a woman of another nation. At times, the person who sees the Torah will undertake much travelling. Sometimes this dream signifies marrying a woman without a guardian, and sometimes it signifies associating with those who wish to corrupt one’s religion.
Seeing books and scrolls other than the Torah in a dream signifies honour and respect for those engaged in worldly affairs. Seeing the Torah and the Gospel signifies seeing our Prophet (peace be upon him).
Seeing the Torah and the Gospel in a dream signifies treachery, breaking a covenant, and engaging in matters for which concessions are permitted. Seeing the Torah is likewise interpreted as wisdom, knowledge, and guidance. If a man whose wife is pregnant sees the Torah in his hand, he will have a daughter.
Ibn Sirin: Reading the Torah in a dream without understanding what it is may signify becoming a fatalist. For a king or ruler, possessing a copy of the Torah denotes that he will conquer a country or make peace with his people according to his own terms. If he is in reality a scholar, it signifies that his knowledge will increase, that he will invent something unlawful, or that he will incline toward befriending jesters. Seeing the Torah in a dream signifies finding a lost thing, welcoming a traveller long awaited, or representing a person belonging to the Jewish faith. For an unmarried person, possessing the Torah denotes marrying a woman of another religion or taking a woman in marriage without her family’s consent. Seeing the Torah may also signify long journeys.
If his wife is pregnant, she will give birth to a child resembling his father; and if he sees that he is holding the Torah in his hand, it signifies that his wife will give birth to a daughter, because the word Torah is feminine. It also denotes associating with bad companions. Similar interpretations are made for carrying the other heavenly books. Seeing the Torah, the Gospel, or the Psalms in a dream is interpreted as though one had seen Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), because his name (peace and blessings be upon him) is mentioned in all three of these books. It may also signify treachery, breaking a covenant, or desiring worthless things.
