Transformation
Ibn Sirin: In a dream, the transformation of one thing into another indicates transformation by substitution. To see a withered tree transformed into a tree in bloom signifies political changes, the changing conditions of the world, or the turning of circumstances from good to evil or from evil to good. This also includes the transformation of inner essences or physical beings. For example, one who sees himself in a dream as old, while in reality he is young, indicates that he will advance in his spiritual life and attain honour. If he is in fact an old man and sees himself in a dream as a young child, this indicates immersion in sin.
To see a known old person return to his youth indicates that the dreamer’s material circumstances will be reversed, that is, he will turn from wealth to poverty or the opposite; and if he is ill, it signifies that he will be delivered from his illness. To see oneself in a dream transformed into a beautiful green shoot or into a flowering branch of a tree indicates that one may die within a short time. To see one’s height increase in a dream indicates a long life, abundance, or the having of a male child. One who sees in a dream that he lacks some measure of intellectual acuity, physical ability, or one of his limbs may suffer losses concerning his worldly interests.
If a man sees in a dream that he has been transformed into a woman and is wearing women’s garments, ornaments, and makeup, this indicates humiliation, distress, and exposure to insult. If a woman sees that she has been transformed into a man or that a beard has grown upon her, this indicates that she will re-establish contact with a child who has been lost. If she is pregnant while in the form of a man in a dream, it indicates that she will give birth to a male child who may die at an early age; and if she is not pregnant, it indicates that she is no longer fertile. To see oneself flying with wings in a dream indicates journeys. To see oneself transformed into a wooden staff signifies arrogance. To see oneself transformed into an iron rod indicates longevity.
To see oneself transformed into a bridge indicates that one may become a ruler, a man of wisdom, or a learned person from whom people will wish to benefit in knowledge. The child of one who sees his sick child transformed into a bird will die. Whoever sees himself transformed into a monster will be separated from the believers because of his evil traits and condemned to live in solitude. To see oneself transformed into a stag, a gazelle, or an antelope indicates that one will become excessively devoted to his sexual life or that his mental balance will be impaired to the extent of engaging in bisexual relations. To see oneself transformed into a swine indicates abundance devoid of human dignity. To see an ox transformed into a wolf indicates a state official who will become tyrannical.
However, according to the Islamic interpretation of a human being’s transformation into a lower creature, if such a transformation were to occur in real life, it indicates a curse and punishment; it does not last more than three days and ends in death.
