Aqiqah Ceremony
Ibn Sīrīn: To offer the aqiqah sacrifice in a dream (the name given to the shaving of a newborn’s hair, the sacrifice offered on the seventh day, the Islamic tradition of shaving the hair on the seventh day, and giving gold or silver in charity equal to the weight of the hair) signifies glad tidings, the arrival of someone long awaited, recovery from illness, or the release of a prisoner. Participating in the aqiqah ceremony signifies an increase in one’s faith, attaining certainty, and imitating the blessed Sunnah of Allah’s Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It signifies the good character and success in his affairs of one who, in his dream, offers a lawful sacrifice and fulfils all the rites. If he offers a forbidden sacrifice and feeds it to people, it signifies a disobedient and rebellious child.
