Suckling Milk

If a man sees in his dream that he is nursing a child, he will fall into sorrow. Whoever sees himself suckling milk from someone’s breast will enter prison. Many interpreters say that there is no good in this dream, either for the one giving milk or for the one suckling it.

According to Abu Sa‘id al-Wa‘iz, whoever sees himself suckling milk from a woman’s breast will become ill. Whether the dreamer is great or small, a woman or a girl, her means of livelihood will become difficult.

If a woman sees in her dream that she is drinking milk from her own breast, she will consume her daughter’s inheritance. There is no good in seeing oneself suckling milk from a woman’s breast. Nor is there good in a woman seeing that she suckles another woman’s breast but no milk comes forth. Seeing oneself suckling the female organ is auspicious for security. It signifies that one’s affairs will be accomplished and that benefit will be gained. Suckling from other limbs, if milk comes forth, signifies property and benefit for the one suckling, and harm for the one being suckled. Suckling the breast of an animal is a blessing.

According to Kirmani, seeing suckling in a dream signifies property. Suckling milk from a human being or from an animal whose flesh is not eaten signifies unlawful property; suckling the breast of an animal whose flesh is eaten signifies lawful property. According to one narration, a human being giving milk signifies compassion.

According to Jabir al-Maghribi, whoever sees himself suckling milk from one who has no breasts will ask money of a miserly man. If milk comes forth from the place he suckles, he will receive that money; if no milk comes forth, he will return empty-handed.

Whoever sees himself suckling an unsuitable place of a human being or an animal will pursue an exceedingly difficult affair. If milk comes forth from there, he will succeed, though he will suffer hardship. A man who sees himself suckling milk from a child or giving milk to a child will enter prison.

According to some interpreters: Seeing oneself suckling one’s own mother’s breast signifies honour and rank. A woman seeing that she is nursing her own child signifies that her child will attain a high rank and position. Whoever sees himself suckling milk from a hand will gain victory in this world and become wealthy.

Seeing oneself seize women and suckle their breasts, but no milk comes forth, signifies that one is committing reprehensible deeds. If a man sees himself suckling a woman’s milk, it signifies that he will take from the woman’s property. In general, suckling milk from the breast of either a human being or an animal, and seeing milk or water come forth from it, signifies property. If what comes forth from the breast being suckled is solid, there is no good in it. According to one narration, it signifies benefit. That which comes forth from the breast also signifies the spirit. If there is a state or movement, it is an indication that he will have a child.

According to another narration: Suckling milk from another woman in a dream signifies orphanhood, need, perishing, and a change of temperament.

If a woman sees in her dream that she is nursing someone, it signifies that the gates and means of the world will be closed against them, or their imprisonment. Whether the one suckling this milk is a child or a grown man or woman, the interpretation is the same.

If someone sees in a dream that he is nursing a child who has been weaned, that person will be imprisoned or become ill. Or a door will be closed upon him. If the dreamer is a pregnant woman, she will be delivered of her pregnancy. If someone nurses a child in a dream or suckles from a child, hardship and suffering will befall him. Then God Almighty will deliver him from hardship and suffering. Whoever sees that he has milk in both breasts, though he nurses no one, this signifies that after the world has turned away from him, it will once again turn toward him abundantly.

Nursing someone in a dream contains no good, whether for the one suckling or for the one being suckled. If a woman sees in a dream that a man is suckling from her, that man will take from the woman’s property in the amount of the milk he suckled. If someone sees in a dream that he is circling among women and suckling their breasts, but no milk comes forth, that person kisses children. If a sick person sees that he is suckling milk, he will recover.

It can be read as a sign of easing, receiving support, gaining morale, or a fruitful development.

Underestimating opportunities, succumbing to comfort, or being late may reduce the positive effect.
