In a dream, counting twenty, one hundred, or five thousand things signifies prevailing over the enemy; counting seven or eight signifies sorrow and grief; and counting nine signifies speaking with a seditious group concerning a difficult matter.

Counting up to ten in a dream signifies being engaged in a matter that has reached perfection, or going on pilgrimage; counting up to forty signifies pursuing a matter for which one has been given a promise. Counting up to thirty in a dream signifies being deceived by a false promise; counting ten more after thirty signifies that promise coming to pass; and the number one signifies Allah Almighty, knowledge, wealth, a husband and child, or being foremost in one’s work and profession. Counting up to three signifies fulfilling one’s word; counting up to four, sufficient proof; counting up to five, doubt in religion; counting up to six, doubt concerning the fundamentals of faith, or prevailing over the enemy and silencing one’s opponents; counting up to seven, adversity and misfortune; and counting up to eight and ten signifies expiation.

Counting coins bearing the name of Allah (C.C.) in a dream signifies the remembrance of Allah; counting such gold coins signifies knowledge; and counting coins bearing pictures signifies occupying oneself with vain matters in this world. (Counting pearls, precious stones, and valuable beads in a dream signifies reciting the Qur’an, remembering knowledge one has forgotten, or learning it; counting ordinary beads signifies occupying oneself with futile matters; counting well-fattened cattle signifies a year of abundance and low prices; and counting buffalo signifies falling into hardship in one’s livelihood.

Counting camels laden with burdens in a dream signifies rain, property, and worldly goods.

The interpretation of counting numbers in a dream changes according to the number counted. Seeing oneself counting coins upon which the name of Allah (C.C.) is written signifies benefiting from knowledge; seeing oneself counting coins bearing pictures signifies occupying oneself with falsehood in this world; and seeing oneself counting pearls signifies reciting the Qur’an.

Seeing oneself counting roof tiles and pieces of stone in a dream signifies occupying oneself with unnecessary things. Seeing oneself counting weak oxen signifies living through years of famine; seeing oneself counting fat oxen signifies grace and abundance; and counting camels signifies acquiring booty, abundance in crops, and great earnings.

According to Kirmani, seeing oneself counting numbers is interpreted according to the number counted. One signifies the Oneness of Allah and faith; two, one’s mother and father or two witnesses; three, almsgiving; seeing four signifies an accepted supplication and amassed wealth, and according to one account, marriage; five signifies prosperity and authority, and according to one account, the five daily prayers.

According to some interpreters: Seeing the number one in a dream is blessed; two signifies deliverance from affliction and victory over the enemy; three is not good. Four is blessed and auspicious. Five is beautiful and auspicious. Six signifies seeking something that is beneficial. According to one account, it signifies that the dreamer will hear a good word or that a matter will be completed. Seven is not good; according to one account, it signifies pilgrimage. According to some, a woman who sees herself counting the number seven will give birth safely. Eight is not good.

According to one account, the owner of this dream will approach a state dignitary or a great person. Seeing nine is not good. According to one account, it signifies marching against the enemy. Seeing ten is blessed and signifies attaining one’s desire in religion and in the world; according to one account, it signifies that one’s affairs will be completed. Seeing eleven signifies that one’s desire will be fulfilled; twelve signifies that one’s wishes will be granted, and according to one account, a year of abundance. Thirteen is not good. Fourteen signifies that one’s desire will be fulfilled and is good because its end is relief. Fifteen signifies the attainment of desires, deliverance from severity and hardship, abundance, and justice; sixteen signifies attaining one’s objective after a long time.

Seeing the number seventeen in a dream signifies corruption and dissipation, and recovery through the return of one who had departed from religion. Eighteen is not good. Nineteen signifies enmity between the dreamer and the people. Twenty signifies an increase in strength, superiority over the enemy, and the attainment of one’s desire; thirty signifies that, if the dreamer has a dispute with someone, it will be concluded swiftly in his favor, and it signifies superiority over the enemy.

Seeing the number forty in a dream signifies difficulty and bewilderment in one’s work. Fifty signifies the completion of the dreamer’s life. Sixty signifies the necessity of repentance and expiation; it is not good and indicates fear. According to one account, it signifies seeking forgiveness, and that the matter belongs to one who has no good in him, and that his sins will not be forgiven. Eighty signifies being accused of fornication and receiving a swift punishment; according to one account, it signifies abundance. Ninety signifies that a woman of rank will wish to marry the dreamer and that benefit will come from her.

Seeing the number one hundred in a dream signifies the enemy, attaining victory, and the fulfillment of one’s desire; according to one account, it signifies being accused of fornication. Seeing that one is counting one hundred grains for oneself signifies goodness and abundance, a comfortable livelihood, and assuming leadership over a people.

Seeing the number two hundred in a dream signifies failing to achieve victory over the enemy; three hundred signifies attaining one’s wishes after a long period; four hundred signifies superiority over the enemy; and five hundred signifies the halting of affairs.

Seeing the number six hundred in a dream signifies the attainment of one’s desire and relief; seven hundred signifies goodness at the end of one’s life, together with difficulty in one’s affairs; eight hundred signifies victory; nine hundred signifies that the dreamer’s enemy will prevail over him; and one thousand signifies strength, victory, and superiority. Two thousand is not good. Three thousand signifies victory and strength. Four thousand signifies victory. Five thousand signifies abundance and relief.

Seeing the number six thousand in a dream signifies victory and the attainment of one’s desire. Seven thousand signifies being in a middling state with regard to livelihood and, according to one account, one’s affairs being bound or obstructed. Eight thousand signifies that the dreamer’s life will be orderly. Nine thousand is good. Ten thousand signifies victory and deliverance. Twenty thousand signifies superiority over one’s enemy. Thirty thousand signifies attaining victory after a long time. Forty thousand signifies deliverance. Fifty thousand signifies weariness, hardship, and stagnation.

Seeing the number sixty thousand in a dream signifies that one’s desire will be fulfilled after hardship. Seventy thousand signifies abundance and livelihood; eighty thousand, victory and deliverance; ninety thousand, superiority over the enemy; and one hundred thousand or more signifies that one will obtain what one desires.

Seeing oneself counting numbers with one’s hand in a dream signifies that the dreamer will regret feeding those whom he has nourished. Some interpreters say: Whoever sees himself counting numbers or being counted will become an amir, and there will be as many people under his command as the number he counted. If the dreamer is a religious official, this is auspicious for him.

It is wholly auspicious. However, it is not auspicious for those in debt, for it signifies that the creditor will press them.

According to another account: Whoever sees himself counting five thousand in a dream will prevail over his enemy. The same applies to counting twenty or one hundred. Whoever sees himself counting seven or eight will fall into sorrow and grief. Whoever sees himself counting nine will speak with a people concerning a difficult matter. Whoever sees himself counting ten will be engaged in a matter that has been completed and perfected. Some interpreters said that counting ten signifies going on pilgrimage. Whoever sees himself counting forty will pursue a matter for which he has been given a promise.

Whoever sees himself counting thirty in a dream will be deceived by an incomplete and false promise. But when ten more are counted after thirty, that promise will be fulfilled. One of anything signifies laying claim to singularity through knowledge, wealth, a husband, or a child. Sometimes the number one signifies losing one’s renown and separating from one’s partner. An odd number signifies the Exalted Lord (C.C.), with whom there is no other thing. The number two signifies prevailing over the enemy; three signifies fulfilling one’s word; four signifies sufficient proof; and five signifies doubting in religion. The number six is likewise. Sometimes six signifies prevailing over the enemy and producing proof against those who oppose one. There is no good in the number seven. The numbers eight and ten signify expiation for an oath, or for one who cannot find a sacrificial animal during pilgrimage.

Whoever sees himself counting coins upon which the name of Allah (C.C.) is written in a dream glorifies Allah. Whoever sees himself counting gold coins bearing the name of Allah (C.C.) will acquire knowledge. If the coins being counted bear pictures, the one counting them will occupy himself with vain matters of worldly affairs.

Whoever sees himself counting pearls in a dream will recite the surahs of the Qur’an. Whoever sees himself counting precious stones will remember knowledge he had forgotten or learn it. Whoever sees himself counting beads will occupy himself with futile things.

Whoever sees himself counting male camels together with their loads in a dream: if he is a farmer and has cultivated crops, rain will fall there. If the dreamer is a governor, he will obtain property in proportion to the worth and value of the goods contained in the loads. Whoever sees himself counting buffalo in a dream will fall into hardship and difficulty concerning his livelihood.

It can be read as a sign of easing, receiving support, gaining morale, or a fruitful development.

Underestimating opportunities, succumbing to comfort, or being late may reduce the positive effect.
