If a person sees himself or another person dead in a dream, it signifies his moral corruption. If a person sees in his dream that he is shouting and weeping behind the dead, that the deceased is being carried in a coffin, and that the person is being buried, it signifies that the dreamer shall rise in rank.

To bury the dead in a dream signifies that good news shall be received. To see the dead in a dream is interpreted as good. Whatever dead people say in the realm of dreams proves true. If a person sees himself or another person dead in a dream, it is interpreted as the corruption of his morals.

To see the dead laughing in a dream signifies that your conscience shall be at ease. If you see in a dream that one of your family has died, it means that the deceased shall have a long life. At times, this dream is also interpreted as distress and grief. (To see death in a dream is interpreted as a journey. According to one narration, it is interpreted as marriage. Whoever sees that he has died and is being taken to the grave shall undertake a distant journey; whoever sees that he has died and been shrouded, if unmarried, shall marry. Whoever sees that he has died and been buried shall die without repenting.

If, in a dream, the dead person comes out of his grave after being buried, he shall attain repentance. Whoever sees that he has died and is being carried upon the shoulders of the people shall gain honour and esteem among the people.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has come to life again after his death shall become rich if he is poor; and if the dreamer is travelling or in a foreign land, he shall return safely to his homeland.

To see the death of an unknown woman in a dream signifies a scarcity of rain; to see that this woman comes to life again signifies that rain shall come. To see many women dying signifies that there shall be death among children. To see the dead coming out of their graves and consuming all the food, leaving nothing behind, signifies famine. To see them drink all the sweet water in the wells signifies that a great illness shall break out.

To see a dead person in a dream with a white or green garment behind him and a smiling face signifies that he has attained forgiveness; to see the contrary signifies the opposite. To see one’s wife die and then come back to life signifies benefiting from one’s wife. To see oneself die in one’s sleep, without being ill, signifies longevity.

To see the death of a friend in a dream signifies the death of the dreamer or the loss of his friend.

To see a wild animal dead in a dream signifies victory over the enemy and safety. To see one of the domesticated animals dead is not auspicious.

According to some interpreters, to see an unknown old man die in a dream signifies failing to obtain a result from the thing one desires. To see an unknown woman die signifies that worldly affairs shall remain suspended. To see a lion or an elephant die signifies the death of a great person in that land.

According to Ibn Kathir, the death of one’s son signifies deliverance from the enemy and inheritance. The death of one’s daughter signifies joy and abandoning a desire. The death of one’s father is on account of livelihood; the death of one’s mother signifies attaining one’s aim and also grief. Whoever sees one of his relatives die shall suffer a deficiency in his strength. The death of one’s wife is good. The death of a pregnant woman is more blessed and signifies deliverance.

According to Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi, death in a dream signifies deficiency and corruption in religion, but honour in the world. To see a dead member of one’s household hostile toward him signifies that his friend shall become offended with him. To see a dead person angry signifies that his will was not carried out. To see a dead person laughing and rejoicing signifies that an accepted prayer and charity have reached him.

To see a dead person in beautiful garments signifies that he has a good end and died with faith. To see a dead person come to life in a mosque signifies that he is far removed from torment.

Whoever sees in a dream that he is sitting and speaking with the dead shall undertake a distant journey. To see the dead laugh and then weep signifies that he died outside the religion of Islam. To see a dead person’s face black signifies that he died as an unbeliever.

According to Ismail al-Asa, to see a dead person standing in prayer signifies that he performed abundant worship during his lifetime. To see a dead person come to life and pray in the place where he used to pray while alive signifies that he is in a good state. (According to Abu Sa‘id al-Wa‘iz, whoever sees a dead person come to life shall attain goodness. He shall rejoice from a place from which he did not hope. To see a dead person say something to him signifies that that thing shall occur exactly as he said.

To see in a dream a dead person wearing a crown and seals or similar things, or sitting upon an elevated place, signifies that he is in a good state in the Hereafter. To see a green garment behind a dead person signifies that he died as a martyr.

To see a dead person with a smiling face, yet silent and tranquil, signifies that he is in goodness because prayers have been sent to him.

To see a dead person quarrelling with oneself signifies that one has committed a sin. To see a dead person admonish oneself with evil words signifies that the dreamer has committed a sin. To see a dead person beat oneself signifies that one is sinful. According to one narration, it signifies news from a journey, repayment of a debt, or regaining something that had passed out of one’s possession.

To see a dead person wealthy in a dream signifies goodness with Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He). To see a dead person poor signifies the opposite of this dream. If the deceased is a religious person, it signifies his comfort in the Hereafter. To see many known dead people rise from their graves and be joyful signifies that affairs which one had deemed dead shall be restored, bringing goodness and benefit, and that one’s fortune shall be renewed.

To see the dead sorrowful, with old and torn garments, signifies that, if he has children and relatives, they shall fall into poverty and become sinful.

To see many unknown dead people standing upon their graves signifies that the people of that place shall fall into violence and that evil people shall emerge from among them.

To see one’s forefather, or the forefather of one’s forefather, or one’s grandfather come to life signifies that the dreamer shall have a long life, shall be truthful among them, and shall see goodness in the world. To see one’s mother and father come to life is good. Whoever sees his son come to life shall have an enemy emerge from an unexpected place. (To see in a dream a dead person whom one knows signifies joy. Among the best dreams a person may see is seeing his father and mother, or his forefather, or one of his relatives.

No matter in what manner one sees one’s father die in a dream, if the dreamer is in need, Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He) shall bestow provision upon him. If he has someone in a foreign land, that person shall come. If he is ill, he shall recover. If he has grief and trouble, he shall be delivered from them. Whoever sees a dead person whom he knows greet him shall not die that year. It also signifies the righteousness of both himself and the deceased.

According to Ja‘far al-Sadiq (May Allah be pleased with him), whoever sees in a dream that he is showing a dead person the way shall attain knowledge and wisdom and assist a people who are upon an evil path. Whoever sees that he has revived a dead person shall live long. Whoever sees that he is sitting upon a cushion with a dead person and embracing him shall live in good health.

To see a dead person sit in one’s own place in a dream is not auspicious. If he is an official, he shall be dismissed from his office or shall die. To see a dead person marry a woman signifies the death of that woman.

According to Daniel (Peace be upon him), whoever sees in a dream that he has died, that his family are gathered around him weeping, that they wash and shroud him, and that they place him in a coffin, it signifies corruption in the dreamer’s religion. If he is not buried, it signifies his goodness.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has died, has been placed in a coffin and carried away, and that everyone is grieving behind him at his funeral, shall attain honour, renown, and greatness. Yet there shall be corruption in his religion, for death is separation from good works and worship. If he sees that he is not buried, these matters shall later be put right. Whoever sees that he has died and then come to life again commits a sin and then repents. According to one narration, death signifies life. (Whoever sees someone say to him, “You shall never die,” shall die as a martyr. Whoever sees that he has died but has no shroud over him, no one weeps behind him, and he is not shrouded, shall have one part of his house or a portion of his property destroyed.

To see in a dream that one has died and been buried without being washed or escorted by anyone signifies that the ruined house shall not be repaired. Whoever sees himself dead in a cemetery and thinks that he died long ago shall undertake a distant journey. He shall befriend the ignorant and the corrupt.

According to Jabir al-Maghribi, sudden death signifies comfort for the devout and torment for the unbelievers. If the manner of death in a dream is difficult, it signifies torment.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has died and kisses the one who washes him shall repent of his sins. Whoever sees that he has died and been placed upon a bier or in a coffin shall enter the service of a ruler or his assistants and shall receive good and benefit from him. To see a scholar die signifies that his esteem and that of the Sacred Law shall fall in that place. To see a watchman die signifies that there shall be no justice. To see an artist die signifies that the practice of that art shall diminish.

According to Ibn Sirin, to see the ruler of a country die in a dream signifies the ruin of that country. To see death in a dream signifies poverty. Whoever sees in a dream that he has died with a wrinkled and angry face shall fall into hardship in this world and into an evil state in the Hereafter. If his face is smiling, it signifies goodness.

According to Kirmani, whoever sees himself suffering hardship in the state of death wrongs his own soul. According to one narration, if the dreamer is in debt, he shall be freed from his debt. If he wishes to travel, he shall go. According to another opinion, property shall leave his possession, his house shall be destroyed, and the place where he resides shall change.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has died, been shrouded, buried, and then emerged from the grave shall repent of his sins and become a good person. Whoever sees that he has died but has not been shrouded like the dead shall have his house destroyed and shall leave it. (Whoever sees that he has died and then come to life again shall undertake a long journey and return.

To see in a dream that one has died and is being carried upon the shoulders of certain men signifies attaining a high rank and becoming a person of position, but also a decrease in religion. If he is not buried, his condition shall later improve.

To see in a dream that one has died but there is neither shroud, coffin, grave, nor tears signifies deliverance for the dreamer from the grief and distress in which he is involved. To see oneself wrapped in a shroud like the dead signifies one’s death. To see oneself die while alive and then come to life again signifies turning away from one’s religion.

If an official sees himself in a deathbed and in the state of death in a dream, he shall be dismissed from his office. Whoever sees one of his parents die shall lose worldly bounty from his house and his condition shall worsen. Whoever sees his brother die shall die if he is ill, or one of his relatives shall die. According to one narration, he shall lose one of his two eyes or one of his hands.

To see one’s spouse die in a dream signifies that the person who assisted one’s livelihood is no longer present.

To see death in a dream signifies regret on account of a great affair. Whoever dies and then comes to life again commits a sin and must then repent. Whoever dies without being ill and without signs of death upon him shall live a long life. Whoever sees someone say to him, “You shall no longer die,” shall truly die.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has died, stripped off his garments, and is naked shall fall into severe poverty. Whoever dies and is placed in a high place shall attain comfort. According to one narration, he shall receive good from his spouse.

To see oneself die alone in a place where no one is present and no one passes is not auspicious. If he has a relative in a foreign land, news shall come that this relative has suffered a calamity.

According to some, to see death in a dream signifies divorce. To see oneself die while one’s wife is mourning signifies divorce between them.

For a single man to see himself die in a dream signifies marriage. To see oneself or one’s partner die and oneself weep signifies a calamity for both of them. To see someone die and the people remember him with goodness signifies that he shall become accepted on account of his deeds. To see oneself die among a people signifies working upon their affairs. According to one narration, it signifies undertaking a distant journey and not returning.

To see oneself carrying a dead person upon one’s back signifies acquiring unlawful wealth. Whoever sees himself dragging a dead person upon the ground shall commit a sin.

Whoever sees himself taking a dead person to the grave shall perform a meritorious deed. Whoever sees himself carrying a dead person to the marketplace shall attain his desire and his commerce shall expand. Whoever sees himself taking a dead person to the place where funeral prayers are performed shall inform a corrupt person. Whoever sees himself dead and lying upon the earth shall become an owner of property. (To see one’s children die in a dream signifies a long life, virtue, truthfulness in speech and in essence, goodness, and avoidance of falsehood.

To see a dead person offer something lawful to eat, drink, or wear signifies bounty and abundance, office and rank, health and safety. If what he gives is among unlawful things, it signifies that the dreamer shall suffer difficulty in livelihood and fall into sin.

Whoever sees in a dream that he speaks with Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, shall, if he is dead, live in justice. Whoever sees the Caliph shout angrily and reproach him shall fall into grief. If he is an official or a laborer, he shall be dismissed from his work. If he is poor, he shall become even poorer. If he is wealthy, he shall become poor.

According to another narration, a person who dies and is buried in a dream dies without repenting. If he emerges from his grave, he shall be granted the opportunity to repent.

Some interpreters said that dying signifies marriage, for the dead person, like one who is to marry, needs fragrant things and washing, they said.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has died and is carried upon the shoulders of a group of people but is not buried shall overcome his enemy. If he is qualified for public office, he shall become an official. Whoever sees that he lives after death shall become rich after poverty or repent of his sins. If the dreamer is a guest or a stranger, he shall return safely to his homeland.

The death of an unknown woman in a dream signifies the withholding of rain; the life of such a woman signifies that Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He) shall revive the earth with rain. If a person sees in a dream that a dead person whom he knows has died again and that people weep for him, it signifies that someone from the family of that deceased shall die. If there is no weeping, it signifies that he shall marry someone from the family of the deceased, and signifies joy and bringing a bride into his house.

If a person sees a dead person in a dream in a beautiful state, or wearing white and green garments, with a cheerful and joyful face, it signifies that the deceased is, as he was seen, among blessings in the Hereafter.

If one sees in a dream that the dead person’s hair and beard are dusty and falling out, that his garments are decayed, or that he is weeping and furrowing his brow, it signifies that the deceased is in a bad state. If a dead person informs someone in a dream that he has not died, it signifies that the deceased is in the station of the martyrs and enjoying the blessings of the Hereafter.

Whoever sees himself carrying a dead person in a dream takes upon himself the hardship and toil of an irreligious man. Whoever sees himself carrying a dead person in a manner other than that in which the dead are carried shall acquire unlawful wealth. Whoever sees himself carrying a dead person in the customary manner in which the dead are carried shall serve a ruler.

If a person sees in a dream that a dead person is ill, it signifies that he shall be held responsible for a religious matter. Whoever sees his wife die and then come to life again shall benefit from his cultivation and harvest. Whoever finds a dead body in a dream shall find property.

Whoever sees himself following behind a dead person in a dream shall follow the profession of that deceased person. He shall follow his path in religion and in the world. To see the imam die is interpreted as the ruin of the city. To die signifies regret for a great sin. Some interpreters said that whoever sees himself die in sleep without signs of death and without being ill shall have a long life.

Whoever sees himself at the moment of death and amid the agonies of death shall become unjust for his own benefit or for the benefit of others. Whoever sees himself dead and naked upon the ground shall become poor. If he is upon a bed, the world shall become spacious for him. If he is upon a couch, he shall attain rank and honour. Whoever sees in a dream that news of the death of a missing person has arrived shall receive news that the missing person is in good worldly condition but corrupt in religion.

Whoever sees his son die in a dream shall be delivered from his enemy. Whoever sees his daughter die shall become hopeless because he shall be unable to free himself from grief and sorrow. If an ill person sees that he has married, he shall die. If a married person sees that he has died and been buried, he shall separate from his wife, partner, brother, or friends. At times, this dream signifies that the person shall travel; and if he is already travelling, it signifies that he shall return to his wife and children. For an ill man to see himself die signifies recovery from his illness.

The death of a brother in a dream signifies the death of the enemy. Whoever sees himself among a number of dead people shall be among a hypocritical people.

Whoever sees himself make friends with the dead shall travel to a distant place and derive benefit from that journey. Whoever sees himself eat the dead shall have a long life. If he sees himself dead in a dream, he shall rejoice and his condition shall be envied.

The eating of something by a dead person in a dream signifies that the price of that thing shall rise. Whoever sees himself upon a bier shall see his affairs progress and shall be delivered from the sorrow of sin and from debt.

To see oneself carrying the dead to graves signifies that the dreamer is performing a correct deed.

Whoever sees himself carrying the dead to shops and markets shall attain his need and his commerce shall revive. Whoever sees a dead person alive shall see an affair from which he had despaired come into being. If he is in distress, ease shall come to him from an unexpected place. If he sees dead people whom he knows standing in a house, city, or part of a neighbourhood, affairs from which the dreamer, or the children and grandchildren of those dead, had despaired shall come to pass.

If one sees in a dream that the dead are occupied, weary, and in hardship, or that there is ugliness and evil in their form, appearance, or garments, it signifies that they shall be held responsible for the deceased’s condition in the world.

The interpretation of dirty and rusty garments upon the dead is likewise. To see the dead person jest with oneself signifies that the dream is not genuine, for the dead have passed beyond the time of jesting. Whoever is in a state of fear and sees in a dream, especially, that his mother and father are alive shall become safe from fear, and his grief and sorrow shall depart.

To see oneself revive a dead person in a dream signifies that, through the dreamer’s hand, a Jew or a Christian shall become Muslim, or that a sinful person shall repent.

Whoever sees himself revive the dead shall, by Allah’s permission, guide a people remaining in error or involved in innovation. Or, through him, a person who persists in committing sins shall repent.

If a person sees in a dream that a dead person complains of his head, it signifies that the deceased is being held responsible for a fault he committed toward his mother or father. If he complains of his neck, it signifies that he is being held responsible for his wife’s marriage contract, his will, or a trust he neglected. If he complains of his left hand, it signifies that he is being held responsible for his brother or sister, his child, his partner, or a false oath he swore. If he complains of his side, it signifies that he is being held responsible for failing to visit his relatives. If he complains of his calves, it signifies that he spent his life in falsehood and in places contrary to Allah’s command. If he complains of both feet, it signifies that he is being held responsible for spending his wealth in falsehood and outside the command of Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He). The condition of a woman is interpreted in this dream in the same manner as that of a man.

To see oneself give the dead something to eat or drink, or something to wear, signifies that harm shall come to the dreamer’s property. If a living person sees himself give the dead the garment he is wearing, he shall die and join them.

Whoever sees in a dream that a dead person gives him a garment, shirt, or turban shall live as that dead person lived.

To see a dead person give oneself food in a dream signifies that good provision shall come to the dreamer from an unexpected place. If he sees the dead give him honey, he shall attain booty and bounty that he did not expect. Whoever sees in a dream that he holds the hand of a dead person shall receive property from a place from which he had despaired. (To speak with the dead in a dream signifies longevity; to receive something from the dead signifies provision. Whoever sees himself speak with the dead shall have a disagreement with the people, but it shall end in reconciliation.

Whoever sees himself kiss a dead person whom he knows shall benefit from the knowledge, work, or property left behind by the deceased. If he sees himself kiss an unknown dead person, property shall come to him from an unexpected place.

Whoever sees a known dead person kiss him shall attain goodness from that deceased person or from his heirs. Whoever sees an unknown dead person kiss him shall accept goodness that comes from an unexpected direction. Some interpreters said that whoever sees himself kiss the dead shall die; and if he is sound, it signifies that the words he has spoken are false.

Whoever sees himself have sexual intercourse with someone who is forbidden to him by kinship shall remember that dead person with goodness and prayer, or shall perform an act beneficial to the children and grandchildren of the deceased. Alternatively, that person shall commit something unlawful.

To see oneself marry a dead woman, go to her house, and not touch her signifies the death of the dreamer. A woman who marries a dead man, comes to his house, and sees her own house transformed into the house of that man shall also die. If a living person sees in a dream that he follows a dead person into an unknown house and does not come out from it, it signifies his death. If he returns from that house, it signifies that he shall escape the danger of death.

Whoever sees a dead person give him an old, dirty, and rusty shirt in a dream shall become poor.

If a person sees in a dream a dead person beat a living person or leave that person angrily, it signifies that the living person has introduced something religiously corrupt. For the dead are in the abode of Allah and are pleased only with that which pleases Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He).

If a person sees in a dream a living person beat a dead person, and the dead person is pleased with and obeys this, it signifies that the person doing the beating is devout, gives charity for the soul of the deceased, prays for him, or has carried out the will left by the deceased. (If a person sees in a dream that a dead person is occupied with accepted and desired deeds, it signifies that the dead person is commanding him to perform that deed. If the deed performed by the dead person is evil, it signifies that he is commanding that it be abandoned. If a person sees a living person follow behind a dead person, entering and leaving a place without ever parting from him, it signifies that the living person follows the profession and path of the dead person in matters of religion and the world.

Whoever sees himself beat a dead person in a dream shall attain goodness on his journey and find what he had lost.

For a living person to beat a dead person in a dream signifies that he shall repay his debt. If a person sees a dead person sleeping in a dream, it signifies the deceased’s comfort and good condition in the Hereafter. The interpretation of seeing the dead naked is likewise.

If a living person sees himself sleeping with a dead person in one bed in a dream, it signifies that his life shall be long. To see a dead person purchase food or goods signifies that their prices shall rise and that they shall spoil.

To see the dead selling food or goods signifies that those things shall not be sought after. To see a dead unbeliever in old and torn garments signifies that his condition in the Hereafter is bad.

If a person sees in a dream a Jew, Christian, or Magian sitting upon a couch, with a green garment upon his dead person and a crown upon his head, it signifies the elevation of those whom the deceased left behind, and the goodness and joy they shall attain in the world.

If a person sees in a dream a dead person say that he is in eternal life, it signifies that he is in the rank of martyrdom and enjoying the blessings of the Hereafter. If a dead person known to a living person informs him in a dream, “You shall come to me by such-and-such a day, month, or year,” the day is interpreted as a month, the month as a year, and the year as ten years.

Whoever sees his mother die in a dream shall suffer worldly loss and his condition shall deteriorate. He shall not perform deeds and shall show laziness in fulfilling the obligatory acts. If a person sees his ill brother die in a dream, it signifies that his brother shall die. If his brother is not ill, it signifies the death of someone who speaks and asks for assistance as his brother does.

To see one’s wife die in a dream signifies that the profession by which the dreamer earns his livelihood shall become invalid.

If a person sees in a dream a deceased scholar, righteous person, or jurisprudent in a city, and the people of that city are in war, famine, or fear, they shall be delivered from that condition and the conduct of their leader shall improve.

If a person sees a famous person in a city, or sees that he is the governor of that city, oppression and discord shall arise in that city. Whoever sees himself perform the prayer over the dead shall intercede for an irreligious person. Whoever hears a dead person call to him from a place he does not see, and answers him, shall die. If a person sees a dead person drown in the sea in a dream, it signifies that the deceased is drowning in error and sin.

If a person sees the dead emerge from their graves and go to their houses, it signifies that he shall be delivered from imprisonment, or that dried-up plants shall be revived by Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He). Death sometimes signifies honour for a believer, and sometimes withdrawal into seclusion. Sudden death signifies wealth for the poor and poverty for the wealthy.

The death of an artisan in a dream signifies the invalidity of the artisan’s craft. The death of a governor signifies hardship in livelihood. The death of a wife signifies the loss of her benefit. The death of a child signifies that his name shall no longer be mentioned.

To see one dead person perform the prayer over another dead person signifies false deeds, for the obligation of performing deeds has been lifted from both of them; or this dream signifies that the dreamer is in debt.

To receive something from the dead in a dream signifies goodness and an increase in provision. For a single woman to marry a dead person in a dream signifies a husband; for married people, it signifies divorce. At times, her marrying the dead signifies that the deceased is in a good state with Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He). To see the dead of the polytheists signifies the enemy. To see the dead of Christians and Jews signifies exceeding the bounds in religion and the renewal of grief and hardships.

Ibn Sirin: To see decapitation in a dream signifies disobedience toward one’s parents, abandoning prayer, or deliverance from debt; the head that is cut off, if beautiful, signifies goodness.

Ibn Sirin: To see oneself crucified in a dream signifies elevation or attainment of a high rank for the person crucified. If a person worthy of a position of leadership sees himself crucified in a dream, it signifies that he shall attain his aims. If he dies because of being crucified in his dream, it signifies that he shall lose his faith or become incapable of applying the divine laws in his life. If he is crucified in a dream but does not die from it, it signifies that he shall rule with justice. If an ordinary person sees himself crucified in a dream…

Ibn Sirin: To see death in a dream signifies deficiency in religion or an exceedingly long life; at times, it also signifies repentance. To see oneself come to life again after death signifies turning away from sin. To see someone one knows die may also be interpreted as that person going to a foreign land or marrying. Imam Nabulsi says that death may also signify wealth for the poor.

Ibn Sirin: To see the soul return to its Lord in a dream signifies returning a trust to its rightful owner, recovery for an ill person from his illness, the prisoner’s release from prison, or the reunion of beloved ones.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.

In the interpretation, the themes of success and reputation, work and responsibility, health and body, spiritual signs, the emotional tone in the dream, and how the symbol concludes in the dream should be evaluated together.
