Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq: There are seven interpretations of seeing an eye in a dream: 1—Light

Allamah Majlisi: Seeing an eye removed from its place in a dream indicates that you will depart from your homeland. Seeing in a dream that your eyes have become blind indicates the death of one of your relatives.

Ibn Sirin: The eye indicates one who finds the path of guidance through his insight. A blue eye indicates innovation; an eye blue tending toward black indicates a child; two eyes indicate two children. Seeing that you are blind in a dream indicates that you will stray from the right path or lose your child. (Seeing that one of your eyes is blind in a dream indicates that half of your deeds concerning the Hereafter have been nullified, or that you will commit a grave sin with one of your limbs, or that you will suffer a great calamity.

Kirmani: Seeing oneself applying kohl to one’s eye in a dream indicates that you will seek things beneficial to the welfare of religion. Applying kohl to the eye for adornment indicates that you will try to present yourself as a religious person in order to gain respectability.

Seeing someone give you kohl so that you may apply it to your eye in a dream means that you will acquire wealth. Seeing the light of the eye diminish in a dream indicates that you will practice hypocrisy both secretly and openly.

Seeing that you have numerous eyes on your body and that you can see everything very well in a dream indicates that your faith will become stronger and that you will fulfil the obligatory duties and the Sunnahs.

Seeing someone remove your eye in a dream indicates that you will suffer a great calamity.

Jabir al-Maghribi: Seeing that your eye is made of iron indicates that the veil of your modesty will be torn. Seeing both your eyes swollen so greatly that they cannot open indicates that you will befriend someone who is hostile toward you.

Seeing the light of your eye become weak in a dream means that you will suffer harm regarding worship. Seeing your eyes removed from their places indicates that you will be deprived of a share in the Hereafter. Seeing that you have an eye on your face means that you will hear a word that will harm you in religious matters.

Seeing the eyes of a black-eyed person turn blue in a dream means that your condition will deteriorate. [“On the Day when the Trumpet is blown, We shall gather the sinners on that Day, their eyes turned sky-blue (from fear).”][112]

Seeing your eyes become completely black, with no whiteness remaining, indicates that you will become arrogant and fall into sedition. Seeing that you have received a blow to one eye in a dream indicates that a calamity will befall your children.

Isma‘il al-Ash‘ath: Seeing that your eye is an ear and your ear is an eye indicates that you will marry a widowed woman who has a daughter and will have sexual relations with both of them. Seeing your eye in your palm indicates that you will acquire property and wealth and earn money.

Seeing the eye become white in a dream indicates that you will experience sorrow and distress. “He turned away from them and said, ‘Alas, my grief over Joseph!’ And his eyes became white from the grief he suppressed within himself.”[113]

It is related that one day a man came to Daniel (peace be upon him) and said, “O prophet, I saw in my dream that my right eye kissed my left eye!” Thereupon Daniel (peace be upon him) said, “Fear Allah and repent! Henceforth, do not betray your neighbor and look upon his wife with an evil eye. Repent, so that you may be safe from the punishment of Allah.” The man then repented and promised never again to look upon his neighbor’s wife with an evil eye.

Contemporary Scholars: Eyes are interpreted according to their color and condition as follows: Non-seeing eyes in a dream indicate joyful news; reddened eyes indicate passionate love; blue eyes indicate great love; black eyes indicate the necessity of acting cautiously; and tired eyes indicate poverty.

Seeing oneself close one’s eyes in a dream indicates, in accordance with the noble verse meaning, “Tell the believing men to lower their gaze (from what is unlawful) and guard their private parts” (Nur, 30), that one will observe the commands and prohibitions of Allah, the Exalted.

What does seeing an eye in a dream mean: It indicates the light of a person’s faith, the eye of the heart, and the power of discernment and intuition. Looking out of the corner of the eye indicates rancor and hatred; having many eyes indicates becoming a devout and righteous servant.

Seeing oneself one-eyed in a dream indicates looking at matters from only one direction, expecting benefit from only one side, becoming weak in religion, the death of one of one’s brothers or children if one has them, or a truthful, believing person.

Losing one’s eyes in a dream indicates receiving help, or the death of a child, or refraining from looking at matters that do not concern one. A squinting eye indicates a deceitful and lying person; a beautiful eye indicates joy, happiness, intelligence, and the illumination of faith and knowledge.

Seeing an ugly eye in a dream indicates evil speech and the evil eye; an eye whose eyelashes have been plucked indicates harming religion; the plucking of one eyelash indicates an enemy who wishes to disgrace oneself; the right eye indicates a male child, and the left eye a female child.

Seeing oneself remove one’s eye in a dream indicates lancing a boil and draining an inflammation. Gouging out an eye indicates long life; a veil descending over the eye indicates sorrow and grief, and the reward and happiness attained through patience in the face of it.

Seeing the eyelids in a dream indicates every precaution that protects wealth and the alms that secure it; the eyelids indicate things that are causes of joy and happiness; the edges of the eyelids indicate precautions and deeds that protect religion and faith; and rheum seen in the eye indicates a child.

Seeing poorly with the eye in a dream indicates avoiding unlawful things as much as possible; closing the eyes indicates avoiding unlawful things and performing the obligatory acts of worship; pain in the eye and illness and ugliness observed in it indicate deficiency in religion and worldly affairs, and turning one’s eyes away from realities while concerning oneself with false things.

Whoever sees both his eyes white in a dream will remain in sorrow for a long time. According to Abu Sa‘id al-Wa‘iz, the eye is interpreted as a person’s belief in religion and his ability to distinguish evil from good. Seeing one’s eyes changed in a dream indicates that the power of vision will be lost.

Seeing that one’s eyes are closed in a dream is interpreted as sorrow, leaving one’s own religion and entering another religion, and forgetting how to recite the Qur’an. Seeing while one is blind indicates entering the true religion.

According to Ibn Kathir, seeing a blind man in a dream is evidence of setting out into exile. Seeing that one has an illness in one’s eyes is interpreted as children. The right eye means male children, while the left eye means female children. The dream should be interpreted accordingly. A person who takes a blind man by the hand and leads him about is bringing someone who has fallen into an evil path to safety.

Seeing a one-eyed man in a dream is not interpreted favorably, because Iblis is one-eyed. So is the Dajjal. If one sees that one’s eyes are ill, then, if one is wealthy, some of one’s property will leave one’s possession. According to one narration, one will become ill.

Whoever sees pain in his eyes in a dream will fall into corruption in his religion. He will approach death. The lesser or greater intensity of the pain indicates whether this interpretation is mild or severe. If a person with eye pain sees in a dream that the pain has passed, then, if he is ill, he will recover; and if his religion is weak, it will become stronger.

Whoever sees in a dream that his eyes extend as far as his ears will become blind. Whoever sees redness in his eye will be exposed to another person’s anger. Whoever sees his eye burst will be punished for a crime he has committed. Whoever sees both eyes burst at once will part from those he loves or encounter an unwanted condition in something he loves, such as wealth, children, or a house.

The bursting of the eye in a dream is sometimes also interpreted as long life. Removing an eye also indicates that one will suffer an eye disease. Seeing oneself one-eyed in a dream is evidence that half of one’s wealth will leave one’s possession, that one has committed a great sin, or that half of one’s life is lacking. If the owner of this dream has a child, the child will die.

Seeing oneself married to a woman with large eyes indicates that one will marry a foolish and ignorant woman. Whoever sees that he has had his eyes treated will encounter one of five events: his religion will become stronger, his wealth will increase, his traveler will return, he will have a child, and his eyes will become stronger.

Whoever sees himself applying kohl to his eyes for adornment will perform a good deed that will bring him fame; if he is unmarried, he will marry; and if he is poor, lawful wealth will come into his hands. According to another narration, whoever applies kohl to his eyes will marry two women. Whoever applies an unsuitable substance to his eyes as kohl will commit adultery.

According to Ibn Kathir and Nafi‘, a person’s eye signifies his child, his dearly beloved wife, and his spouse. Seeing pain in the eye indicates deficiency in religion. The degree of this deficiency is measured by seeing that the eye has become blind. If the person who sees such a dream is very devout, it is a warning that he must not neglect his prayer and supplication.

Whoever sees more than two eyes in a dream will become wealthy. According to Ibn Fadalah, a person’s eye is the measure of his condition. A dream of the eye is measured by a rival. Seeing another person take away one’s eye is interpreted as becoming afflicted with an illness.

Seeing oneself have one’s eyes treated in a dream is a warning to restrain one’s tongue. According to one narration, one will reform one’s condition, a son whom one will love greatly will be born, or, if one has a beloved in exile, that beloved will return or one will receive good news from him. Whoever sees that his power of vision is better than everyone else’s will be regarded as acceptable in religious matters. Seeing it deficient indicates the opposite.

Seeing a spot in one’s eye in a dream indicates that one has not left a good reputation among the people and is not loved. Whoever sees his eyes white will suffer grief or part from those he loves. Whoever sees whiteness in his eyes and sees that it gradually clears and heals will be reunited with a beloved or relative whom he has lost for a long time. If he is sorrowful and distressed, he will be freed from these and attain relief.

Whoever sees a yellow spot in his eye in a dream has committed an offense of which he is unaware and must repent. Seeing an eye in one’s heart indicates that the person is on the right path. Seeing oneself eat one’s eyes is interpreted as consuming one’s wealth.

Seeing that one has no eyelashes in one’s eyes is interpreted as acting contrary to the Sharia and being deprived of Allah’s grace. Seeing the edges of the eyelids become white indicates that an organ in the head will become ill.

Seeing one or several eyes anywhere on one’s body in a dream is interpreted as wealth. According to some interpreters, a beautiful eye indicates magic, sorcery, death, or life. Sometimes the eyes indicate all close relatives.

Seeing one’s eyes become beautiful in a dream is interpreted as attaining guidance and acquiring knowledge. If one’s son, spouse, or one of one’s beloved is ill, he or she will recover. If the dreamer is a Christian, he will embrace Islam; if poor, he will become wealthy. If he is a merchant, he will earn much. If he is an official, his rank will increase. Seeing an eye larger than it actually is, or seeing such an eye on someone else, is evidence that one has attained guidance from Allah Almighty.

Seeing one’s eyes leap from their places and fall upon a person indicates that one will come to know that person thoroughly. Seeing any deficiency or imperfection in one’s eye is evidence that one will complain of a loss in one’s work.

According to another narration: The eye seen in a dream is a person’s religion and the eye of the heart that sees the path of guidance and misguidance. Whoever sees his eyes blind in a dream will lose his child. If the person who sees this dream is poor or imprisoned, it indicates that he will not do the work he has done again. If the person who sees this dream has suffered a calamity, it indicates that he will find someone who will save him from the calamity. If a person wishing to travel or already traveling sees this dream, it indicates that he will never return to his homeland.

Whoever sees in a dream that a group of people are fighting among themselves and that he himself is blind will not see the people who are troubling him. If one sees in a dream that one’s eyes are the eyes of an unfamiliar person, it indicates that one’s eyes will not see and that another person will guide one. If the dreamer knows that stranger, he will marry his daughter or receive some good from him.

If a person sees in a dream that both his eyes have fallen into his lap, a relative such as his brother or son will die. If he sees that his eyes hurt, that pain is a deficiency or fault he has committed in his religion. Blindness indicates deficiency even more strongly. If a debtor sees in a dream that he has lost his eye or become blind, harm will come to his religion because he has abandoned prayer, failed to give alms, or committed a sin. (If a righteous person without children sees in a dream that he is troubled by his eyes, he will suffer financial loss. Seeing oneself walk with one’s eyes in a dream indicates that one will become ill. Whoever sees himself apply medicine to his eyes will reform his religion. Some interpreters said that whoever sees himself apply medicine to his own eyes will reform his wealth; others said that a child will be born to him and that child will become the light of his eyes; and still others said that if he has a brother who has been exiled or lost, he will long for him and rejoice upon receiving news of his health. If a person sees in a dream that his eye is stronger and sharper than people suppose, it indicates that his hidden religious state is better than his outward appearance.

Whoever sees whiteness in his eyes in a dream will be visited by sorrow and grief or be separated from someone he loves. Whoever sees a veil over his eyes and then sees his eyes become illuminated when the veil opens will be reunited with someone who has been separated from him for a long time. If the person who sees this dream is sorrowful, Allah (the Exalted) will remove his sorrow.

Whoever sees an eye in his heart in a dream, it indicates that he fulfils the requirements of his religion and that he will speak words of wisdom arising from his heart. Whoever sees himself eat another person’s eye will consume that person’s wealth.

Whoever sees that neither of his eyes has eyelashes in a dream harms the religion of Islam. If a person sees someone pluck his eyelash, that man is an enemy who will disgrace him. Whoever sees the eyelids of his eyes white in a dream will suffer an illness in his head, eyes, or ears.

Seeing one eye or many eyes on the body in a dream indicates wealth if those eyes resemble natural eyes. Sometimes seeing very beautiful eyes indicates magic, death and life, and sometimes the gathering together of one’s family, relatives, and children. Whoever sees his eyes beautiful in a dream will be granted guidance, knowledge, and insight. If he has an ill child, wife, or beloved beside him, that person will recover from the illness. If the dreamer is poor, he will become wealthy. If none of these conditions applies to him, he will enter an official position suitable to his circumstances. Sometimes darkness appearing in the eye in a dream indicates distress.

The eye moving from its place to another place and blood flowing from it indicate calamities that will befall the body. Extremely large eyes seen in a dream, beyond description, sometimes indicate aid that will emerge by the grace of the Almighty Lord. The destruction of the eyes in a dream indicates punishment descending from the Truth.

If a person’s eye falls upon someone who is concealed from him in a dream, he will see that person. Whoever senses a deficiency in his eye may sometimes complain because of harm that has occurred to his foot. The right eye indicates a male child, and the left eye indicates a female child. Something falling into the eye in a dream indicates being watchful and separating from a friend with whom one takes pride.

Whoever sees in a dream that his eyes are ears will become blind and will hear with his ears everything he saw with his eyes. Whoever sees redness in his eyes will become angry because of an event that has occurred. If he sees that he has removed both his eyes, a child whom he loves greatly will separate from him, or he will see something that angers and irritates him in one of the things he possesses—wealth, children, a house, or something else through which he attained the joy of his eyes.

Gouging out an eye in a dream indicates long life. Sometimes removing an eye indicates pain that will occur in the eye. If a person sees many eyes on his body in a dream, this indicates that he is a very devout and righteous person. The interpretation is the same for seeing one or many eyes in one’s heart.

Whoever looks out of the corner of his eye at a dangerous person in a dream will plot against that person and harbor rancor toward him. If he sees himself look at that dangerous person with his eyes wide open, he will oversee and assist that evil person’s affairs. Whoever sees his eye made of iron in a dream will tear the veil of his honor, and severe grief will befall him among the people.

Whoever sees himself commit fornication with his eye in a dream looks at women who are unlawful to him. Whoever looks at an eye and sees that this eye astonishes him will do something that will cause religious harm. Whoever sees a human or animal eye on his shoulder or shoulder blade in a dream will find lost property.

Whoever sees his eye to be brown in a dream looks suspiciously at his friend’s wife. A black eye signifies religion. An eye that sees sharply is good for all people. It also indicates that its owner will soon be in need of wealth and will remain without occupation. If a person with many children sees such a dream, it indicates that his children will become ill.

What does seeing an eye in a dream mean: You are being watched by a person who wishes to harm you. This dream also means that someone is trying to take your beloved away from you.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.
