To see a finger in a dream signifies one’s spouse, child, servant, friend and companion, mother and father, strength and power, property and craft, mount, or the five daily prayers.

It denotes the means of profit and gain, property and prosperity, finding strength, or receiving help. To see slender and long fingers signifies an artisan who performs his work well, effective and beautiful handwriting, success in commerce, and, for the poor, the aid and concern of wealthy persons.

To see the fingers of the right hand in a dream signifies the five daily prayers, beginning with the thumb. The fingers of the left hand signify the children of one’s brothers and sisters; interlocking the fingers (bringing their tips together and pressing them against one another) denotes distress and necessity.

To join one’s fingers together in a dream signifies deliverance from distress, the gathering together of the children of one’s brothers and sisters, or performing the prayers together by combining their times; the cutting off of the thumb signifies setting out on a journey; the cutting off of the index finger signifies not attaching sufficient importance to prayer.

The cutting off of the middle finger in a dream is interpreted as the death of the leader of the society or community to which one belongs; the cutting off of the ring finger, as the squandering or destruction of property; and the cutting off of the little finger, as the death of a grandchild.

To see the toes in a dream signifies adornment and the proper order of affairs; to see crookedness in the fingers of the hands and feet signifies mishap and things going contrary to expectation. (To see one finger in the place of another in a dream signifies delaying one prayer until the time of another prayer; to see one’s finger scratched or bitten signifies an uncouth act—if the person causing the harm is known, it means receiving discipline from that person, and if unknown, the need to learn propriety by oneself; cracking one’s fingers signifies evil speech or mockery; and an increase in the fingers of a person in a position of authority denotes lack of fairness and excessive tyranny. (For a person who sees a finger in his dream, it signifies that he will have a son; and for one whose finger is burning, it signifies that he will commit sin and offense; stretching out one’s fingers signifies attaining wealth.

To see fingers worn out or covered with abrasions in a dream is a sign of sorrow and pain. Beautiful fingers mean that your love life will come into order. If the form of the fingers is beautiful, affairs will proceed well. Moreover, each finger has a meaning. According to Jabir al-Maghribi: to see one’s thumb cut off in a dream signifies setting out on a journey. To see the index finger cut off signifies an intention concerning prayer. To see the middle finger cut off signifies the death of the ruler.

The cutting off of the ring finger in a dream signifies that one’s property will leave one’s possession; and seeing the little finger cut off signifies that someone will die. (To see the toes in a dream is interpreted as affairs proceeding correctly. To see crookedness in either the fingers of the hands or those of the feet signifies that affairs will go contrary to expectation; to see one finger growing in the place of another signifies performing one prayer during the time of another prayer.

To see one’s finger bitten in a dream signifies the dreamer’s lack of manners; to see oneself cracking one’s fingers signifies being ill-regarded among one’s relatives.

According to another narration: A finger is interpreted as offspring, wives, father and mother, property, animals, possessions, and craft. Whoever sees his fingers increased in number and beautiful in a dream will have an increase in the offspring, property, and possessions mentioned above. Whoever sees them deficient will have a deficiency in those things mentioned.

To see one’s finger cut off or dried up, or to see that one derives no benefit from it, signifies that one will be unable to benefit from one’s father, mother, or children; or that one’s property will be lost, one’s animals will perish, one’s property or estate will remain idle, or one’s craft will become invalid.

If a sick person sees himself biting the tips of his fingers in a dream, he will die. If someone sees that his fingers have been cut off or that an affliction has befallen them, weakness will come upon his children, relatives, or acquaintances. Sometimes the fingers are interpreted as the five daily prayers. Some interpreters say that the middle finger signifies the morning prayer. If the dream of fingers is interpreted as prayer, then the fingernails signify the Sunnah and supererogatory prayers. If the fingers are interpreted as property, then the fingernails signify alms-tax. If the fingers are interpreted as soldiers, then the fingernails signify weapons and enemies.

The tying of the fingers in a dream signifies the tying up of property. The fingers signify days, months, or years. The fingers sometimes signify the male children of one’s brothers and sisters, because the shoulder represents a brother, while the fingers are in the position of the brother’s children.

To see a person with severed fingers in a dream is interpreted as suffering harm from property in which one placed one’s trust. The length of the fingers signifies excessive greed; to see one extra finger signifies an increase in relatives, prayer, or knowledge.

Whoever sees one of his fingers change places in a dream delays his prayer from one time to another. If he sees that he has mixed and interlaced his fingers, he combines his prayers at one time. At times, this dream signifies that, concerning one of his affairs, his relatives and close ones will gather for consultation and assist him. Some interpreters have interpreted the dream of interlacing the fingers as the dreamer’s being unemployed and his religion being constricted, while his family, brothers, and children, although he has work that would occupy him, fear harm coming to them from him; thus, they help one another and unite to avert that harm.

The shortness of the fingers in a dream signifies laziness and deficiency in prayer. The length of the fingers signifies perseverance in the five daily prayers; the falling off of one finger is interpreted as abandoning the prayer indicated by that finger. If a person sees someone biting the tip of another’s finger, it signifies the lack of manners of the person whose hand is bitten, and the excessiveness shown by the biter in disciplining him.

Whoever sees milk flowing from his thumb and blood from his index finger, and drinks them, will treat either his mother-in-law or his sister badly. Whoever sees himself cracking his fingers will hear evil words from his relatives; the excess in the fingers of an imam in a dream signifies an increase in his greed and tyranny and a decrease in his fairness. A woman who puts henna on her hands but sees that the henna does not take will not be loved by her husband.

To see a finger in a dream signifies abundance of gain and a male child; to see one’s fingers joined together signifies that a wedding will take place; to see the middle finger long signifies that one will derive great benefit from one’s work.

To see one’s fingers burned in a dream signifies that one will commit sin; to see the number of one’s fingers increased signifies good fortune and wealth; and to see one’s fingers becoming thin and long signifies that one’s abilities in one’s work will increase. (To see the fingers of the right hand longer than those of the left hand signifies that one will do good to one’s relatives and friends; to see one’s fingers short and one’s arms long signifies that, by virtue of one’s courage, one will attain renown; to see the fingers of the right hand dry signifies that one will oppress the weak; and to see the fingers of the left hand dry signifies that one of one’s relatives will die.

To see one’s fingers aching in a dream signifies that one’s affairs will deteriorate; to see someone biting his fingers signifies that the man who bites them will cause harm to your affairs; and to see the toes signifies that, if one is patient in one’s work, one will earn much.

To see one of one’s fingers missing in a dream signifies that one’s income will decrease; to see oneself licking one’s fingers signifies scantiness of fortune and gain.
