The Noble Mushaf

Seeing the Noble Mushaf (the Holy Qur’an) in a dream is interpreted as knowledge and wisdom. Whoever sees himself reciting the Holy Qur’an, his knowledge, wisdom, and justice will spread among the people. The possessor of this dream will be known among the people as a person of esteem.

Buying a Mushaf in a dream signifies provision and wealth in the path of religion; changing the Mushaf (altering it) is interpreted as introducing corruption into religion and as shortness of intellect. Selling the Mushaf signifies being deprived of possessing knowledge and remaining despised and poor.

According to Kirmani: Opening a Mushaf in a dream and placing it upon a pulpit signifies becoming the leader of a community; eating the leaves of the Mushaf signifies reading the Qur’an abundantly; wishing to erase its pages but being unable to do so signifies striving to memorize the Qur’an and memorizing it with ease.

Tearing and ripping out the leaves of the Mushaf in a dream signifies being sluggish in performing the prayer; licking the Qur’an with one’s tongue and effacing its writing signifies having committed a great sin; reading the Qur’an signifies undertaking an affair without anyone’s assistance; opening the Mushaf and seeing its pages entirely blank and without writing signifies ill fortune.

According to Jābir al-Maghribī: Kissing the Mushaf in a dream signifies accomplishing a благословенный affair; writing the inscriptions of the Mushaf upon the earth or reading the Mushaf while naked signifies earning one’s livelihood through the Qur’an; leaning upon the Mushaf or placing it beneath one’s head signifies that one is not a memorizer of the Qur’an.

Hanging the Mushaf around one’s neck in a dream signifies becoming a great statesman. Writing verses of the Holy Qur’an upon an object in use signifies interpreting the Qur’an erroneously; seeing the Holy Qur’an speaking with one, if its words are good, signifies evil.

Seeing in a dream that the Mushaf has fallen from one’s hand or has been taken away signifies that an official or a man of business will be dismissed from his work; if he is one of the common people, it signifies that he will see no good from anything.

According to Ja‘far al-Sadiq: Seeing the Mushaf in a dream is interpreted in seven ways: knowledge, wisdom, inheritance, a trust, lawful sustenance, strength, and courage.

According to another narration: Whoever sees in a dream that he has destroyed the Mushaf with his hand commits a great sin. Whoever sees in a dream that he has carried or bought the Mushaf acts according to its ordinances. Whoever sees in a dream that he is reading the Noble Mushaf in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) memorizes it.

Whoever eats the leaves of the Mushaf in a dream consumes bribery. If one of the common people sees himself eating the leaves and lines of the Mushaf, that person earns his livelihood by reading the Qur’an. The Mushaf is the wisdom which a person shall attain. If someone sees in a dream that he is writing a Mushaf, he combines religion, knowledge, and practice, and becomes beneficial to people.

If a person sees in a dream that he is tearing and shredding a Noble Mushaf with his own hand, it signifies that he denies what Allah (the Exalted and Glorious) has sent down, or a part thereof. If a person sees in a dream that he is doing to the Mushaf something which he considers ugly while awake, this dream signifies the ruin of that person’s religion. Whoever sees that a Mushaf is with him obtains sovereignty, blessing, and knowledge. The Mushaf signifies a spouse, a husband or wife, or a child, or wealth.

If a sick person sees the Mushaf in a dream, he will be delivered from his illness. Sometimes, the person who sees the Mushaf conquers his enemy. If the dreamer is sinful, he repents, seeks forgiveness, and turns toward Allah (the Exalted and Glorious). Sometimes, a person’s seeing the Mushaf in a dream signifies that Allah (the Exalted and Glorious) admonishes him through the Book of Allah. Sometimes the Mushaf signifies becoming apprised and informed of strange reports and extraordinary matters, and the arrival of glad tidings; and for one who examines all its pages one by one, it signifies longevity. Sometimes the Mushaf signifies a vineyard, a garden, a vegetable garden, places of worship, a person whom one obeys—such as a father, teacher, or educator—and a true oath made by oneself or to be made on one’s behalf. Seeing the Mushaf signifies warning, just as it also signifies glad tidings.

Whoever sees in a dream that a book from among the Divine Books is with him, if he is qualified for public office, becomes an official. If a person sees in a dream that he has a Mushaf or a book in his hand, and when he opens it he finds no writing inside, it signifies that he adorns himself hypocritically with a condition other than the one he possesses.

If a person sees in a dream that he kisses the Qur’an, it signifies that he does not act according to the ordinances of the Qur’an and does not do what he ought to do. Whoever sees that he sells the Mushaf refrains from evils. Whoever sees that he looks at the Mushaf and that its lines are crooked, it signifies that he does not act according to the ordinances of the Qur’an and does not strive to fulfill something that is obligatory and incumbent upon him. Whoever sees that he has stolen the Mushaf and hidden it attempts to perform the prayer without observing its essential elements and proprieties.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has bought a Mushaf obtains wealth and enters into ease and abundance. Burning the Mushaf in a dream is corruption in religion. Whoever sees that the Mushaf has been taken from him will also have his knowledge taken from him, and his works in this world will be severed. Whoever sees in a dream that he has hung the Mushaf around his neck becomes a memorizer of the Qur’an. Eating the pages of the Mushaf signifies that the person who desires something but does not succeed in it strives to memorize the Qur’an but is unable to memorize it.
