Impurity

In a dream, filth that does not soil any part of one’s body signifies property and worldly goods; seeing human excrement soil oneself signifies fear and illness; seeing oneself wash away the excrement that has soiled one signifies paying one’s debt and returning a trust; performing istinja and istibra (the necessary cleansing at the end of urination and defecation) signifies being freed from the responsibility one bears on account of a debt, a trust, or testimony.

Defecating in a dream signifies spending property and money for one’s needs; seeing oneself afflicted with diarrhea signifies extravagance and falling into distress because of it; seeing accumulated excrement signifies property and worldly goods.

(Also, defecating in a dream and seeing what one has discharged signifies spending one’s property and money for one’s health and livelihood; if what one discharges is like diarrhea, it signifies spending one’s money abundantly; seeing oneself having defecated signifies that, if one realizes that people have also seen him, that person should beware of evil words issuing from him.

Seeing excrement leave one’s body in a dream signifies the removal and deliverance from one’s sins and faults. Filth, that is, impurity, signifies a person’s secret, his property, and the emergence of those preparing for a journey against the enemy.

Seeing oneself defecate in a dream is interpreted as the expulsion or disappearance of an inner illness.

According to another narration, it signifies becoming sinful because one has failed to fulfill a trust, testimony, debt, or other such obligation incumbent upon him.

If a person who has an obligation upon him sees in a dream that he is covered with filth, and washes away the filth and performs ablution, it signifies that he will deliver the trust to its owner, pay his debt, or give testimony, thereby freeing himself from sin. If he does not perform ablution, but merely does what is required when the need arises and washes away the filth, it signifies that, by striving and taking care to deliver the trust, pay the debt, or give the testimony, he will free himself from sin, and that in this state the debt, trust, or testimony will remain in his charge without sin.

Ibn Sirin: Being in a state of major ritual impurity or ritual uncleanliness in a dream indicates that a person refrains from fulfilling his fundamental religious obligations. According to Islamic tradition, a person should remain in a state of ablution even while carrying on his daily affairs. Seeing oneself pray in a dream without performing ablution signifies corruption in religious practice; however, it may also be interpreted as devoting oneself to serving the religion of Allah. Being in this state is also interpreted as confusion. If, while in this state, a person cannot find water with which to perform ablution in his dream, it indicates difficulty in meeting his worldly needs and inability to attain his desires for the Hereafter. Washing oneself or one’s garments free of filth in a dream signifies rendering a right to its rightful owner.
