Listening and Hearing

To listen in a dream to the Noble Qur’an, to hymns and odes praising our Prophet, to wise words and poetry, and to words that are beneficial and auspicious in every respect signifies guidance and felicity.

To listen to idle words in a dream signifies stubbornness and disgrace; and to listen to backbiting signifies consuming unlawful sustenance. To listen to secret conversations in a dream, or to prick up one’s ears, signifies transgressing the bounds, spreading rumors, and backbiting.

To listen to words in a dream and embrace those that are beautiful and beneficial signifies glad tidings and joy; to listen while accepting every word as true signifies foolishness; and not heeding admonition and refusing to depart from one’s hardened opinions is interpreted as misguidance and disappointment.

To listen in a dream to the barking of a dog signifies idle speech; to listen to the neighing of a horse signifies strength and honor; to listen to the song of a swallow signifies beneficial and wise words; the cooing of a pigeon signifies weeping; to listen to the voices of other birds with beautiful voices signifies joy accompanied by sorrow; and to listen to the braying of a donkey signifies hearing evil words.

To listen in a dream to the Noble Qur’an, or to an ode or panegyric recited concerning the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or to an address made to oneself, signifies guidance and turning toward Allah Most High (Glorified and Exalted is He).

To lend an ear in a dream to words spoken to another person signifies telling lies and, at times, indicates an ugly thing that will befall the dreamer.

If a person sees in a dream that another person is secretly listening to words he has spoken to someone, then, if the dreamer is a merchant, it is desired that a transaction which has been made be annulled. If he is an official, he will be removed from his post. If a person sees that the words he has spoken to someone are not secret, then that person wishes to violate the other man’s honor and chastity and disgrace him.

If a person sees that he is listening to various words and following those among them which are beautiful, it signifies glad tidings and joy. If a person sees in a dream that, although he hears, he pretends not to hear, he tells lies and makes a habit of lying at all times.

It can be read as a sign of easing, receiving support, gaining morale, or a fruitful development.

Underestimating opportunities, succumbing to comfort, or being late may reduce the positive effect.

In the interpretation, the themes of work and responsibility, spiritual signs, home and environment, success and reputation, the emotional tone in the dream, and how the symbol concludes in the dream should be evaluated together.
