The Months of the Year
If you see in your dream that you are counting the months and that the months do not pass at all, it is a portent that it will take time for you to attain the thing you desire to obtain as soon as possible.
If you see in your dream that it is summer during the winter months, such as December, January, and February, it indicates that a period you did not expect, yet one that will make your life easier and more beautiful, will begin in your life. Likewise, if you see in your dream that it is winter during the summer months, such as June, July, and August, and that there is snow, rain, and mud, it is a portent that a change which will take place in your life will make your life somewhat more difficult and arduous.
To see in a dream that you are filled with joy upon the arrival of the spring months indicates that you will receive good news that will gladden your heart and that you have been awaiting.
If you see in your dream that you are living in a place different from where you reside, and that every season occurs in a month different from the month in which it ought to occur, it means that you will migrate from one place to another. It signifies that you will take your life away together with your home and become part of a great change.
To see the (Hijri) Months in a dream is interpreted as follows:
For a person to see the month of Muharram in a dream signifies deliverance from distress and calamity, and, if the person is ill, that his illness will find healing. If a person who sees the month of Muharram in his dream is living far from his homeland in a foreign land, it means that the time has come for him to reunite with his homeland and his loved ones. If a person who does not care for his religion, does not believe in his religion, or is sinful sees the month of Muharram in a dream, it indicates that he will repent and begin fulfilling his acts of worship, and that he will encounter an event or circumstance that will make him a thoroughly religious person who will never abandon his prayers and supplications.
The month of Muharram is the month in which the repentance of the first human and first Prophet, Adam, peace be upon him, was accepted. For this reason, an unbelieving person who sees this dream repents, seeks mercy and compassion from Allah, and receives Allah’s guidance.
Dreams of the month of Safar have at times been portents of adverse circumstances. Some interpreters do not interpret them as auspicious; however, certain Islamic scholars say that if a person who sees himself in the month of Safar in a dream is in sorrow and grief, the time when he will attain peace is near, and he will find safety. In like manner, if an ill person sees the same dream, it indicates that he will find the healing and health he asks of Allah.
To see the month of Rabīʿ al-Awwal in a dream, or to see oneself living through a day in that month, is a portent of joy, good news, and felicity that will come into one’s life. If the person who sees this dream is a merchant, he will make a profit in his trade and attain ease in his goods and commerce. If a person undergoing certain difficulties in his life sees in his dream that he is in this month, it is a portent that he will soon be delivered from his troubles. For those who yearn for a child and desire to have one, this dream is also a portent of a child.
The meaning of seeing the month of Rabīʿ al-Thānī in a dream is that, if the person who sees the dream has an enemy, he will overcome that enemy and attain success. This month is the representative of success and victories. A dream seen in this month is interpreted as auspicious, and it is related that it is a portent of goodness and beauty.
A dream seen in this month, which is the fifth month of the year according to the Hijri calendar, or seeing oneself in this month in a dream, indicates that the person will experience stagnation in his affairs and will make no profit, though there is a possibility of suffering loss. To see oneself hopeless in the month of Jumādā al-Awwal in a dream is an omen of losing one of one’s close relations.
If a dream seen in this month, which is the fifth month of the year according to the Hijri calendar, is to yield a favourable outcome, the decree of the dream does not manifest immediately and is delayed. A person who sees himself in the month of Jumādā al-Thāniyah in his dream postpones his affairs, and certain obscure obstacles are placed before his undertakings.
A dream seen during the month of Rajab, which is the fifth month of the year according to the Hijri calendar, is a portent of strength and steadfastness; the gates of goodness and blessing are opened, and evil is transformed into good. To see the month of Rajab in a dream signifies honour and virtue. The ascension of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, to heaven—that is, the occurrence of the Miʿrāj—took place in the month of Rajab.
To see the month of Shaʿbān in a dream signifies that one of the men of state will be dismissed. For in this month every wise affair is separated by a command. The decree of the person whose judgment has been issued becomes invalid. The events that will befall and occur to a person during the year are likewise decided on the fifteenth night of this month.
Ramadan is a month in which the Qur’an was sent down, and within it is a night more excellent than a thousand months. For this reason, in this month the devils are chained and the gates of evil and wickedness are closed. The decree of a dream seen during the month of Ramadan is not delayed; it comes to pass at once.
To see the month of Ramadan in a dream signifies blessing, goodness, benevolence, pardon, and forgiveness. If the person who sees this dream is someone who studies knowledge and the Qur’an, he will attain knowledge and the Qur’an. For the Noble Qur’an was revealed in this blessed month. If the person who sees the month of Ramadan in a dream is wounded or ill, he will soon find healing; and if he is in distress, he will be delivered from his distress.
To see the month of Shawwāl in a dream signifies deliverance from sorrows, relief, and joy. He will not concern himself with his enemies; the enmity between them will either lapse with the passage of time or turn into peace. The estrangement of those who are at odds will end, and resentments within the family will be forgotten as a result of an act of reconciliation performed by the person who saw the dream. For the moon seen at the beginning of Shawwāl signifies festival and relief. Festivals are days of joy and gladness.
If a dream seen during this month signifies a journey, it is better for the owner of the dream not to set out upon it. However, if a person sees in his dream that he is in the month of Dhū al-Qaʿdah, it means that he will undertake a difficult task and become very weary.
If the dream a person sees in this month signifies a journey, there is no harm in his setting out immediately; let him travel and expand his affairs. For this is a blessed month and the season of pilgrimage. In this month there are also the festival and the sacrifice. To see in a dream that one is in the month of Dhū al-Ḥijjah, or that one is slaughtering a sacrifice, or performing the prayer of the Feast of Sacrifice, signifies deliverance from debt, fulfilment of one’s vow, repentance, and attaining guidance.
