To see any one of the prophets in a dream signifies one’s father. For a father, too, treats his child with compassion like a prophet, and does not wish him to suffer torment either in this world or in the Hereafter. It has also been said that a prophet signifies a teacher, for a teacher likewise raises his student through prophetic discipline and knowledge. At the same time, a prophet signifies a teacher who imparts the Qur’an.
To see the prophets in a state befitting them, to pray behind them, to follow them and go in their footsteps, to eat something given by a prophet, or to learn something from a prophet or receive news from him, signifies following the prophet and proceeding upon his path. Seeing the opposite of these things, and going ahead of the prophet, signifies that the person who sees the dream is an adherent of innovation and is in error.
It has also been said that seeing a prophet in a dream signifies a learned man, a judge, a preacher, or an instructor. For such people call the populace to the path of Allah. Seeing the prophet in a beautiful manner is interpreted as indicating that his community performs righteous deeds and follows the path of its prophet; whereas seeing the prophet sorrowful and not in a good state is interpreted as indicating that his community is engaged in corruption and innovation.
Whoever sees in a dream that he claims prophethood will, according to his condition, enter an official post: for example, if he is awaiting the office of judge, he will become a judge, and if he is awaiting a teaching post, he will become a teacher. If he is fit for none of these, then, although he has made a false claim, an affliction will befall him through one of the statesmen.
If a person sees in a dream that he is a prophet or that he calls the people to believe in Allah (C.C.), and if one person accepts his call, the dreamer will attain a great rank. Or an affliction and calamity resembling the troubles to which a prophet bearing his name, or resembling him, was subjected in this world will befall him.
If a person sees in a dream that the prophets are in one place, and the people of that place are at war, they will prevail over their enemies. If they are suffering from famine, Allah (C.C.) will gladden them by delivering them from distress, grief, and sorrow. Whoever sees himself wearing the garment of one of the prophets, if he is a statesman, will attain sovereignty and authority; and if he is a student, he will attain a lofty degree, and his virtue and proofs will become manifest.
Whoever sees in a dream that he is a prophet will die as a martyr. Or his sustenance will diminish. He will endure calamities. The end of his affair will conclude in victory. He will enjoin good and restrain people from evil. Whoever sees in a dream that he performs some of the acts of the prophets, such as worship, obedience, righteous deeds, and beneficence, this signifies that he is a devout and believing person. If a poor, bankrupt, or hard-pressed person sees one of the prophets, Allah (C.C.) will make that person’s affairs easy and, through that prophet, bring his affairs to completion.
Seeing the prophets in a dream occurs in two ways. The dreamer may see that prophet in his own form, in which case it signifies the dreamer’s good condition, honor, fame, and victory over one who is hostile to him; or he may see that prophet’s condition and face as dusty and altered, in which case it signifies the dreamer’s bad condition and a hardship that will befall him, followed thereafter by Allah (C.C.) delivering him from that hardship.
Whoever sees in a dream that he has killed a prophet, this signifies betraying a trust and breaking his word. Whoever sees in a dream that he lived in the era of the prophet will attain honor and bounty. If he is one worthy of such a thing, then Satan has played with that person. Whoever sees one of the prophets striking him, if he is a righteous person, this signifies that he will attain his aim and desire in the Hereafter.
