Riding

If a person sees in a dream that he is riding an animal, this is interpreted as his pursuing his carnal desires.

Seeing in a dream that one rides all animals signifies honour and leadership.

Riding a beautiful horse in a dream is an indication of great honour and esteem. Likewise, riding a horse indicates that one’s eminence and rank will increase if the horse he rides is gentle and obedient.

Seeing in a dream that the horse one is riding has two tails is an indication of having many friends and companions. Seeing oneself riding means of transport is a sign of taking up a new occupation.

Seeing in a dream that one dismounts from the vehicle on which one is riding also indicates leaving one’s work.

Riding an animal backwards in a dream indicates forcing the innate nature—its purposes and requirements—refusing to heed admonition and insisting on following one’s own judgment, turning one’s back on people in a time of need, or displaying abnormal conduct towards one’s spouse.

Riding domesticated animals that are not ordinarily ridden, such as sheep, in a dream indicates oppressing people; seeing oneself riding upon the backs of wild animals such as lions and wolves indicates the unruliness of the lower self and disobedience.

Riding a horse in a dream despite lacking the skill to do so indicates eminence and mastery over the lower self if one rides it well; but if one rides it with fear and trembling and without directing it, it indicates following the desires of the lower self. A qualified and competent person’s riding in a private automobile is a sign of honour, leadership, and goodness.

Riding upon someone’s shoulder in a dream indicates wronging him if this is done by force; but if it is done with his consent, it indicates that this person will share his burden and distress. Riding upon a cloud signifies rain; riding upon a star or the moon signifies honour and exaltation; and riding upon the sun indicates doing good together with causing distress.

Riding upon the branch of a fruit-bearing tree in a dream indicates benefiting from a wealthy person; riding upon the branch of a fruitless tree indicates approaching a miserly or poor person; and riding upon a weak, slender branch of a tree indicates behaving harshly in the upbringing of children.

Ibn Sîrîn: A riding animal or vehicle in a dream indicates care, anxiety, attaining one’s purpose, or reaching one’s goal through much labour. Riding an animal in a dream indicates pursuing one’s desires and passions. However, being carried by any animal or vehicle is a sign of honour and rank. Riding a horse that one cannot control in a dream indicates following one’s passions and whims. If one can train and control one’s horse well, it indicates that one will be delivered from difficulties. Seeing oneself riding a magnificently adorned horse in a procession, surrounded by servants and attendants, indicates receiving an inheritance or becoming the guardian of property that will soon be inherited.

Riding upon another man’s shoulder and forcing him to bear this indicates the funeral of the dreamer, and that the other person will have no choice but to carry the coffin. If the person carrying him does so willingly, it indicates that he will fulfil his needs and bear his burden. Riding upon someone’s shoulders also indicates encountering a great tribulation. If one falls during this, it indicates that the trial will not take place. Riding backwards upon another’s shoulder may indicate accepting neither counsel nor excuse, turning away when help is requested, engaging in sexual intercourse forbidden to women during menstruation, or committing sodomy.

Seeing a horseman in a dream leading a caravan or travellers indicates a distant journey, commercial activities, or recovery from illness.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.

In the interpretation, the themes of work and responsibility, emotional life, success and reputation, the emotional tone in the dream and how the symbol concludes in the dream should be evaluated together.
