Whoever sees in a dream that he is performing the ritual bath will repent of his sin, regain his health, be delivered from distress, and attain relief.

Seeing Someone Perform the Ritual Bath and Then Put on an Old Garment

If a person sees in his dream that he performs the ritual bath and then puts on an old garment, it signifies that he will be delivered from sorrow, but will become poor.

Whoever sees that he puts on a new garment after performing the ritual ablution will regain his health and be delivered from sorrow.

For a single person to enter a full pool in his dream in order to perform the ritual bath is interpreted as indicating that he will marry in the near future.

Seeing oneself perform the ritual ablution from a small vessel is evidence that property taken from you secretly will be returned.

Seeing in one’s dream that one performs the ritual bath while in a state of major ritual impurity is an indication of repenting of one’s sins.

Seeing oneself perform the ritual ablution for Friday is interpreted as meaning that one ought to do good toward one’s relatives.

Sayyid Sulayman and Ibn Sirin said: Whoever sees that he performs the ritual bath in the sea or in a river is a God-fearing and devout person. According to another interpretation, whoever sees this dream will be delivered from his distress.

Whoever performs the ritual bath with clean and pure water, if he is in sorrow, will reach safety. If he is in debt, he will pay his debt. If he is ill, he will attain healing. He will be the recipient of Allah’s mercy and be delivered from his fears. His Hereafter will be illuminated.

Whoever performs the ritual bath with turbid or filthy water will, although the outcome will be good, struggle with many troubles at the outset. Seeing major ritual impurity in a dream and performing the ritual bath on account of it with something that is lawful is good in every respect.

Performing the ritual bath with something whose use is not lawful is the opposite of this. Whoever, while in such a state, cannot find water with which to perform the ritual bath will suffer hardship in this world and the Hereafter.

Whoever performs the ritual bath for Friday and the festivals will have a high rank in the Hereafter. Washing oneself and putting on clothes means deliverance from all troubles. If the garment is new, this interpretation is strengthened.

Seeing that one washes someone is to purify that person spiritually. Seeing oneself washed by another indicates that the one who washes him thinks well of the dreamer. Seeing, while washing, something whose use is not lawful means being mistaken in a matter.

Jabir al-Maghribi said: The ritual bath is an indication of purity in religion and of attaining an advanced degree in piety. According to one view, it signifies honor, esteem, and a good name. These qualities of the dreamer will increase.

Ibn Sirin: The ritual ablution (Arabic: ghusl, Islamic Law) is customarily performed on the day of the festival, before the Friday prayer, before commencing the pilgrimage, after recovering from illness, or because semen is emitted during sleep or after sexual intercourse. The dead are also given the ritual bath before the funeral and burial, or the person who washes the dead performs the ritual bath himself. In a dream, performing the ritual bath before the Friday prayer signifies purifying oneself, washing away sin, repenting, serving one’s parents, or remaining faithful to one’s friends. Performing the ritual bath with cold water in winter indicates distress, trouble, or illness. If hot water is used, it indicates earnings, benefit, and deliverance from illness.

Performing the ritual bath before the festival indicates marriage. Performing the ritual bath after an eclipse of the sun or moon indicates distress; performing it before the prayer for rain is likewise. Performing the ritual bath after washing the dead indicates severing relations with heedless people. If the person who performs such a ritual bath is mentally afflicted, he will awaken recovered from his illness. Performing the ritual bath before joining the pilgrimage indicates happiness, success, victory over the enemy, payment of debts, or reunion with loved ones. Performing the ritual bath before circumambulating the Kaaba in Mecca indicates working for one’s livelihood, serving the wealthy, or caring for one’s spouse and parents.

If a sick person sees in a dream that he performs the ritual bath and puts on a new garment, it indicates that he will soon recover. Performing the ritual bath may also indicate the release of a prisoner, the payment of debts, the removal of distress, wealth, abundance, going on pilgrimage to Mecca, or a successful trade. If he does not put on a new garment after the ritual bath, it indicates that his burdens will be lightened or that he will regain his health. Entering a lake, descending into a well, or entering a tub in order to wash indicates marriage. Washing with soap during such a ritual bath indicates the payment of debts or the removal of stress.

Washing one’s garment after the ritual bath indicates correcting one’s conduct, turning toward a righteous religious life, paying debts, or cleansing oneself of impurities. Seeing a dead person washed before burial indicates that those left behind will be delivered from distress and that their wealth will increase. Giving the dead the ritual bath indicates that a person will repent of his sins in the hands of the washer of the dead. If the dead person asks someone in a dream to wash his garments, it indicates that he needs someone who will pray for him, intercede for him before his Lord, give charity for his soul, pay his debts, fulfill his bequest, or render justice to him.

If, in the dream, one fulfills the dead person’s request and washes his garments, it indicates that that person will attain salvation.
