Swaddling Cloth

To see a swaddling cloth in a dream is interpreted as a child. If one sees someone wrapped in a swaddling cloth in his dream, then if that person is a woman, it signifies that she will give birth to a child; if a man, that he will be wounded and his wound will be bandaged; if a male child, that he will be circumcised; and if a young person, that he will marry. It is not auspicious for fugitives, the sick, or guests to see this dream.

According to al-Husayni: Whoever sees in a dream that he has prepared a swaddle and other things for a child who is to be born to him thinks of his future with prudence. He accumulates wealth for his own family. Whoever sees that he has swaddled a born child: if the dreamer is a woman, she will be compassionate toward her children, grandchildren, and relatives, and will serve and assist them. If the dreamer is a man, he will undertake an unsuitable affair belonging to him and suffer harm from it. According to what some have said, to swaddle a child or to see a child being swaddled signifies being indifferent toward the people, especially toward one’s children and relatives, and having no love for them in one’s heart; and this dream is not auspicious. Conversely, to open the swaddle of a swaddled child and expose its arms and feet signifies that one bears love for the servants of Allah and indicates doing good to everyone.

To see oneself bound within a swaddle in a dream signifies distress, hardship, and want; and to see the swaddle in which one is bound being opened and oneself brought out signifies deliverance from distress, hardship, and want. To see in a dream that one has purchased a new swaddle for a child who is to be born signifies that one has been unable to fulfill one’s duty toward one’s child.

According to another narration: To see a swaddling cloth in a dream signifies a child for a pregnant woman. At times it signifies vanquishing an enemy, and at times the bandage wrapped around a broken bone. Whoever sees in a dream that his wife, who is bound with a swaddling cloth, has undone the swaddling cloth will divorce his wife. There is no good in a sick person, a guest, or one who has been beaten seeing a swaddling cloth in a dream.
