To see Makkah al-Mukarramah in a dream signifies going on pilgrimage and visiting Makkah. To see oneself going to Makkah not for a visit but for trade signifies loving worldly affairs and being a person greedy for worldly possessions; according to another narration, it signifies an increase in one’s sustenance and blessings. To see oneself engaged in evil and wicked deeds in Makkah signifies that one will suffer harm in one’s religion and worldly affairs.
According to Ismail ibn al-Ash‘as, to see Makkah al-Mukarramah in a dream signifies attaining goodness and blessings and an increase in one’s wealth; to see Makkah in ruins signifies that one’s wealth and blessings will diminish and that one will fall into distress; to see oneself on the road to Makkah, if the dreamer is ill, signifies that his illness will be prolonged and that he may perhaps die.
To see oneself going to Makkah on foot in a dream signifies that one’s religion and worship are strong and that one’s sustenance is obtained with difficulty; to see oneself going to Makkah upon a camel signifies that one will attain one’s desire with ease; to see oneself guiding many people so that they may go on pilgrimage and saying certain words to them concerning the virtue of the pilgrimage signifies that he will bring goodness and benefit to the people. Whoever sees that he has returned from the pilgrimage attains his desire. His sins are forgiven.
To be on pilgrimage and enter the state of ihram in a dream signifies that one has been delivered from one’s sins; to see oneself among the caravan of pilgrims signifies that one will receive mercy from the Exalted and Glorified God; to see the caravan depart while one remains behind signifies tears and poverty.
According to Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi, since Makkah al-Mukarramah is interpreted as faith, everything in this dream is related either to faith or to the religion of the dreamer. Whoever sees that he has turned his back on Makkah has departed from his religion. To see Makkah destroyed signifies that he has abandoned his prayers and supplications.
To see oneself entering Makkah in a dream is interpreted, for a rebellious person, as repentance; for an unbeliever, as accepting Islam; for a bachelor, as marriage; and as deliverance from fear.
According to another narration: To see Makkah al-Mukarramah in a dream is interpreted as the imam. Whatever increase or decrease is seen to occur in Makkah is related to the religion of the dreamer. Whoever sees in a dream that Makkah is his own house will attain honor and exaltation; or it signifies that the people will obtain knowledge from him, or that they will necessarily have recourse to him because he holds a high position, or that someone will ask for his daughter in marriage.
Whoever sees in a dream that he has turned his back on Makkah will leave his office. For a person to see Makkah destroyed in a dream signifies that he offers few prayers. For a rebellious person, entering Makkah in a dream signifies repentance; for an unbeliever, it signifies becoming a Muslim; and for a bachelor, it signifies marriage. If a person involved in a lawsuit sees in a dream that he has entered Makkah, it signifies that he will prevail in the case, and sometimes it signifies safety from fear and danger.
Whoever sees that he has gone to Makkah in order to perform the pilgrimage will go on pilgrimage. If the one who sees this dream is ill, his illness will be prolonged. Sometimes he will die from that illness and go to Paradise. If a person sees in a dream that he is a resident of Makkah, it signifies that he will attain extreme old age.
Whoever sees in a dream that he is in Makkah together with the dead will reside there. Some interpreters have also said that whoever sees himself in Makkah will visit the Ka‘bah. Whoever sees in a dream that he has gone to Makkah solely for trade will become greedy and covetous of the world. Whoever sees in a dream that he is on the road to Makkah will perform the obligation of the pilgrimage. To see abundance and cheapness in Makkah signifies good; and to see it in a state of famine signifies evil.
