Giving Salutation
In a dream, giving the salutation signifies attaining goodness, security, and relief through the person to whom one gives the salutation; giving the salutation to one with whom one is at odds signifies reconciling with him; and giving the salutation to one’s enemy signifies prevailing over him and becoming safe from his enmity and evil.
Giving the salutation in a dream to an unknown old man signifies deliverance from divine punishment; giving the salutation to a known old man signifies attaining planted trees and abundant fruit.
Giving the salutation in a dream to a young man signifies prevailing over one’s enemy. If one who seeks a woman or girl in marriage gives the salutation to a man from whom he has asked assistance in marrying her, and that man returns his salutation, it signifies that the person will marry the woman he desires.
The enemy’s giving the salutation in a dream signifies an offer of reconciliation. Giving the salutation and shaking hands signify pure goodness; fulfilling the obligation of salutation, brotherhood and love, the good of this world and the Hereafter, hearing beautiful words and responding to them.
Whoever sees in a dream that he gives the salutation to a person between whom and himself there is no enmity will receive relief, security, and goodness from that man to whom he gave the salutation. If there is enmity between them, that person will prevail over the man to whom he gave the salutation and will become safe from his enmity and evil. If the man to whom he gave the salutation is old and unknown, that person will be saved from the punishment of Allah (Glorious and Exalted is He). If the man to whom he gave the salutation is old and known to him, that person will attain planted trees and many fruits.
If the person giving the salutation in a dream is young and unknown, that person will be safe from his enemy. If the person giving the salutation is asking the man who receives it for a woman in marriage, that man will marry the woman requested of him to that person. If he does not return the salutation, he will not marry him to the woman he desires. If there is a commercial transaction between two persons and one gives a salutation to the other and the latter returns it, that trade will come to pass between them. If he does not respond to the salutation, their trade will not be completed.
If an enemy gives a person the salutation in a dream and there is also a gift with the enemy, it signifies that the enemy asks him for peace and pays him the debt owed to him, or accepts liability for it. Some interpreters have also said that if a person sees himself giving the salutation to a man, he will fall into sorrow. Seeing oneself, according to one’s customary practice, shaking hands with someone and embracing him while giving the salutation is purely auspicious.
Giving the salutation in a dream signifies hearing beautiful words and speaking beautiful words. If a person sees himself exchanging salutations and embracing his enemy in a dream, it signifies that the enmity between them will disappear. If a person sees a king or a ruler giving him the salutation, Allah, the Most High (Glorious and Exalted is He), will grant him discernment and good prospects. If the salutation he gives is returned by someone, gain and benefit will come to him in the matter he desires, and his trade will prosper. If his salutation is not returned, his property will not pass into circulation, or his word will no longer be heeded among the people.
Seeing a person in a dream speak to a group without giving them the salutation signifies that he opposes the noble Sunnah and commits innovations. If someone gives him the salutation and he does not return it, or if he returns it merely by a gesture, the interpretation is likewise. Sometimes giving the salutation signifies becoming a Muslim.
