To see a tongue in a dream signifies its owner’s interpreter and the one who conducts his affairs. The tongue is a place where errors are made. Therefore, whoever sees himself moving his tongue in a dream commits an error. If he sees in his tongue an increase in length or breadth, or something like expansion when presenting proof, this signifies that he is strong and powerful and will prevail over his enemy.

If he sees his tongue to be long while quarrelling and disputing in a dream, this signifies that he speaks shamelessly and without modesty. Sometimes the length of the tongue in a dream signifies that its owner surpasses his peers in literary expression.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has two tongues will have increase in the knowledge, health, and proofs that he possesses, and will defeat his enemy. If a person sees in a dream that his tongue is tied and that it is impossible for him to speak, this signifies that he will remain at the head of affairs.

They said that whoever eats his tongue in a dream becomes a very silent person, one who controls his temper and governs others. The cutting off of an official’s tongue in a dream signifies his removal from office.

The cutting off of a poet’s tongue in a dream signifies property that will come to that poet from the person who cut it off. Whoever sees his tongue to be black in a dream will prevail over his own people by means of his tongue. If the owner of this dream is among disreputable people, it signifies that he is a liar. If a person who is in a state of fear sees a tongue in a dream, he will be thrown into confusion. And the work he has done will not remain hidden from the person who acts as a guard.

Whoever sees in a dream that he has bitten his tongue is striving to restrain his anger. Sometimes this dream signifies that he is excessively fond of food. Whoever sees his tongue divided into two parts will become a liar. If a person sees that he has many tongues, and he is not himself an honourable man, his child will die.

If a person sees in a dream that people are licking or sucking his tongue, they desire to benefit from his knowledge. The tongue signifies a servant hired to attend to the affairs of his family, a labourer, a house, a nursemaid, a filthy enemy, a tree bearing fruit, a wife who does not conceive, a word that will proceed from him, sustenance, refuse along the roads, the seeking of traces, or a person who brings hidden things out of their places.

Or seeing a tongue in a dream signifies criminals accused of an offence, a guard appointed to inspect, or the servants of a prison. Sometimes the tongue of an animal signifies the animal’s death or life. If a learned man sees in a dream that his tongue has been cut off, that scholar will be defeated in argument and disputation. Sometimes his servant, student, or child will die.

If an artisan sees in a dream that his tongue has been cut off, he will lose his labourer, servant, or partner. Sometimes he will sell his house. Sometimes, if the tongue does not disappear in the dream, it signifies that goodness will be cut off by his enemy from the person himself, his children, his relatives, or his neighbours, because of a calamity that will befall them.

Sometimes the loss and cutting off of a person’s tongue in a dream signifies that he will divorce his wife, be unable to receive news from the place where he is, or have his sustenance cut off from that place.

If a person sees a severed tongue in a dream, it signifies the death of the wounded, or one who follows the tracks of a person and proceeds behind him, or a man who brings hidden matters to light. If a person sees in a dream that he possesses many tongues, this signifies increase for him in wealth, family, or knowledge. Sometimes the owner of this dream speaks various languages.

If a person sees in a dream that, together with his own tongue, he possesses another tongue, this signifies that he is a tale-bearer. If a person who has been granted knowledge concerning Almighty Allah sees in a dream that he cuts off his tongue, this signifies that by continuing in silence he will fulfil his gratitude toward Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He.

If a person sees in a dream that he is looking at his own tongue, this signifies that he is attentive and careful to guard his speech.

Ibn Sirin: To see a tongue in a dream signifies an interpreter, a messenger, or a person’s own expression.

Ibn Sirin: In a dream, the tongue signifies a person’s interpreter or the manager of his affairs. The tongue also denotes the principal cause of sin. Moving one’s tongue in a dream without speaking signifies committing a sin. The enlargement, broadening, or lengthening of the tongue signifies gaining strength and prevailing over one’s enemy. If the tongue lengthens without cause, it denotes becoming foul-tongued, backbiting, speaking ill of others, or using base words. Possessing a long tongue in a dream may also signify clarity in speech and eloquence in expression. Having two tongues signifies learning a second language, acquiring a second profession, using a proof other than one’s own proof in court, or gaining victory over the enemy.

Seeing that one’s tongue is tied signifies the stagnation of one’s affairs or poverty. Black hair growing upon one’s tongue signifies an evil that will come soon.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.
