To drink liquor together with one’s friends in a dream signifies amusement and a sudden change that will bring the dreamer a fortune. If he sees himself drinking alone, it signifies that he will receive news which will make him very angry and grieved. To receive wine as a gift or to give it as a gift in a dream signifies a small amount of money and good fortune; buying it signifies a very serious quarrel. (To drink liquor together with one’s friends in a dream is interpreted as spending a pleasant time and as a change of employment that will bring in much money. To see oneself drinking wine alone is interpreted as news arriving which will make one very angry and grieved. To receive or give wine as a gift signifies a little money and good fortune. To buy wine is interpreted as a very important dispute. It signifies events that will not be pleasing, unpleasantness, and troubles. At the same time, it signifies a portion of fortune into which the unlawful has entered.

To drink liquor in a dream signifies unlawful property, strength, or authority.

To drink wine mixed with water in a dream signifies that some of your wealth or property will be mixed with the unlawful and some with the lawful. According to some interpreters, it signifies that wealth or property will be acquired from a woman and that, because of this property, you will fall into sedition.

Liquor seen in a dream signifies enmity and anger; sometimes it also signifies recovery from troubles and illness. If one who sees himself drinking liquor is unemployed, it signifies that he will find employment; if he is poor, that he will become wealthy; and if he is unmarried, that he will marry.

To see a goblet in a dream signifies a woman, a spouse, marriage, or a child.

To drink wine in a dream signifies earning very fine sums of money through a certain undertaking; to make someone drink wine signifies attaining success and money in a partnership to be entered into with the person made to drink; and to buy wine in a dream signifies undertaking a venture and attaining success.

To count wine in a dream signifies losing one’s work and earnings to another; to drink old wine in a dream signifies suffering a great loss; and to break a wine bottle in a dream signifies bankruptcy.

To see wine in a dream is unlawful property obtained without hardship. Whoever sees himself drinking wine commits a major sin and attains abundant sustenance. Whoever sees himself drinking wine from a wine goblet without dispute will acquire unlawful property. Some have said that he will acquire lawful property. If the dispute is over the goblet, then, to that extent, the man will dispute because of a word and enmity.

To see a river flowing with wine in a dream signifies that a sedition will befall that person in this world. If he sees himself entering a river of wine, he will fall into sedition to the extent of what he obtains from that river. For one who desires marriage or partnership, seeing wine in a dream signifies an agreement concerning harmonious relations.

The governor’s drinking wine in a dream signifies his removal from office. To drink wine mixed with water in a dream signifies property that is partly lawful and partly unlawful. Some interpreters said that this is partnership property; others said that he acquires property from a woman and falls into sedition through this property.

If one sees himself pressing grapes in order to make wine, he will serve another, and great works will be accomplished through his agency. Whoever sees himself invited to a drinking assembly where appetizers are present is invited to jihad and to attaining the rank of martyrdom. (It signifies sedition, evil, enmity, and anger; sometimes recovery from troubles and illness; and sometimes the loss of one’s reason because of madness or grief and sorrow that prevent a person from perceiving and contemplating himself.

Whoever sees himself drinking liquor in a dream, if he is unemployed, will be employed in a service. Or, if he is poor, he will become wealthy. If he is unmarried, he will marry. If he is ill, he will recover from his illness.

The drinking of liquor in a dream signifies that something greatly desired by the dreamer in life will come to pass. The person who drinks liquor in a dream becomes a learned man, and it signifies that the knowledge of that scholar will increase because of the thoughts that come to a person’s mind when he drinks liquor.

If the liquor drunk in a dream is made from grapes, sometimes the dreamer eats grapes out of season; or he becomes in need of cooked grapes. Or he commits something considered shameful. For the grape is the faulty form of shame. Sometimes he is provided with lawful sustenance.

If the liquor drunk in a dream has been purchased, or if the person has been appointed to press it, he engages in a reprehensible matter that will bring a curse upon him. Liquor signifies lies, ravings, unacceptable speech, divulging secrets, and fornication. The name of the liquor is also taken into consideration in interpretation. The word khamr, which means wine, is a name whose meaning is sin. Sometimes liquor signifies a fornicating woman.

To see oneself trying to drink wine in a dream means rebelling against one’s parents. Or it signifies selling something. Therefore, drinking liquor signifies debt and means of livelihood.

To become drunk by drinking wine in a dream signifies the loss of wealth and children; sometimes, if the drinker is in hardship and difficulty, it signifies his relief. (It signifies the drinker’s stupidity and ignorance. c To see a person drinking liquor in a dream signifies that the deceased is receiving blessings in the Hereafter. For wine is the drink of the people of Paradise. However, this interpretation does not apply if the deceased had died while constantly drinking rakı and had been among those who considered drinking liquor lawful during his life.

Ibn Sīrīn: To see wine in a dream signifies unlawful earnings, illegal money, or property acquired with ease. To drink wine in a dream may signify committing a major sin or becoming wealthy. It also signifies verbal abuse, sedition, or enmity. To see a river of wine in a dream signifies calamities. Wine also signifies marital consent or dismissal from employment. Mixing wine with water signifies mixing lawful and unlawful property, or profit obtained through a business partnership with a woman. Pressing grape must signifies corruption.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.
