Following the Aquarius eclipse on February 6, the second eclipse comes within two weeks: a penumbral lunar eclipse in Virgo on February 20, 2027. In this article, we discuss the meaning of this eclipse and its emphasis on Virgo.
February 20, 2027 Eclipse: Key Information
- Type: Penumbral Lunar Eclipse
- Date: February 20, 2027
- Sign/degree: Virgo 2°05′
- Accompanying lunar phase: Occurs simultaneously with the February Full Moon
What Does a Lunar Eclipse Mean in Astrology?
Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon and always happen at the time of a full moon. This “penumbral” eclipse is the lightest type of eclipse, where the Moon passes only through the Earth’s outer (lighter) shadow — but its astrological impact is still considered more intense than that of a total full moon. Lunar eclipses are generally associated with sudden emotional awareness, the illumination of a hidden situation, and the rapid closing of a cycle.
What Does the Eclipse in Virgo Highlight?
Virgo is the sign of daily routines, health, work, and service — unlike the opposite axis of Leo-Aquarius from the February 6 eclipse, this time the Virgo-Pisces axis is in play. A lunar eclipse occurring in this sign typically brings the following themes to the forefront:
- Sudden awareness/need for change in health, daily routine, or work organization
- Emotional confrontation regarding excessive criticality or perfectionism
- Unexpected developments related to someone/something you serve
- Seeking balance between the practical and the idealistic (Pisces opposition)
February 2027 Eclipse Season
This eclipse is part of the same “eclipse season” as the solar eclipse on February 6 — having two eclipses within two weeks makes this period particularly intense and transformative. Since both the Aquarius-Leo and Virgo-Pisces axes are activated, themes of both social/individual freedom and daily order/health may come to the forefront simultaneously.
