Building / Laying a Foundation

Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq: There are four interpretations of building an edifice in a dream:

1—Worldly good

2—Goodness and blessing

3—Happiness and the attainment of one’s wish

4—The opening of closed matters.

To see in a dream that you are building a city signifies that you will take a group of people under your protection; building a fortress signifies that you will remain safe from the evil of your enemies.

To build a mansion in a dream signifies that you will occupy yourself with worldly affairs; building a house and dwelling in it indicates that you will obtain goodness with regard to your livelihood.

To build a mosque in a dream signifies that you will gather a group of people together upon goodness; laying the foundation of a minaret indicates that your name will be remembered with goodness.

To build an adorned place in a dream signifies that you will marry a woman; building a garden is interpreted as marrying a religious and wealthy woman.

To build a cemetery in a dream signifies that you will occupy yourself with the affairs of the Hereafter; building a dome signifies that you will strive to attain rank; building and completing a new edifice signifies that your religious and worldly affairs are in order; beginning a new building but being unable to complete it is an indication of the contrary.

The Author: To see that you are building houses, mosques, schools, and similar edifices signifies that you will perform charitable deeds and obtain worldly benefit.

Ibn Sirin: To see that you have laid the foundation of a new building indicates that you will obtain much benefit from buildings.

To see in a dream that you have laid a foundation in an unknown place and do not know to whom it belongs signifies that you will suffer harm in the affairs of religion and the world; seeing that you have laid the foundation of a place belonging to yourself indicates obtaining benefit and lawful sustenance.

Kirmani: Laying a new foundation of fired adobe or lime signifies that you will acquire property through an unlawful way; building an adobe edifice in the air indicates the magnificence of the effort you have displayed in the path of religion.

To see in a dream that you have made the walls of a building from adobe signifies that you have been deceived by worldly desires; building an edifice and receiving payment in return indicates that you will obtain benefit.

Building an edifice from fired adobe in a dream signifies that you will obtain benefit from a person of authority; building an edifice from mud or adobe indicates that you will obtain benefit from people.

It can be read as a sign of easing, receiving support, gaining morale, or a fruitful development.

Underestimating opportunities, succumbing to comfort, or being late may reduce the positive effect.

In the interpretation, the themes of success and reputation, work and responsibility, health and body, spiritual signs, the emotional tone in the dream, and how the symbol concludes in the dream should be evaluated together.
