Cataract (Eye Disorder)
The eyes are interpreted as religion. To see oneself blind in a dream, or to see that one’s eye has been torn out, is interpreted as committing a great sin. According to one report, one’s happiness in this world will be increased and one’s sustenance will be abundant. According to another saying, one will lose one’s children. Some interpreters have interpreted this dream to mean that the person who sees it possesses little knowledge and appreciates no one’s worth.
Whoever sees both his eyes white in a dream will remain in grief for a long time. According to Abu Sa‘id al-Wa‘iz, the eye is interpreted as a person’s faith in religion and his ability to distinguish evil from good. To see one’s eyes changed in a dream indicates that the power of one’s sight will be lost.
To see one’s eyes closed in a dream is interpreted as grief, leaving one’s own religion and entering another religion, and forgetting how to recite the Qur’an. To see that one can see while blind indicates that one will enter the true religion. According to Ibn Kathir, seeing a blind man in a dream is evidence that one will set out into exile. To see that there is an illness in one’s eyes is interpreted as children. The right eye signifies male children, and the left eye female children. The dream should be interpreted accordingly. One who leads a blind man by the hand and escorts him signifies that he is bringing to safety someone who has fallen into an evil path.
Seeing a one-eyed man in a dream is not interpreted as auspicious, for Iblis is one-eyed. So too is the Antichrist. If one sees that his eyes are diseased, and he is wealthy, some of his property will be taken from him. According to one report, he will also fall ill. Whoever sees pain in his eyes will fall into corruption in his religion. He will approach death. The lesser or greater intensity of the pain indicates whether this interpretation will be severe or mild. If a person whose eyes are painful sees that the pain has passed, then, if he is ill, it signifies that he will recover; and if his religion is weak, that it will become stronger.
Whoever sees in a dream that his eyes have extended as far as his ears will become blind. Whoever sees redness in his eye will be subject to another person’s anger. Whoever sees his eye burst will suffer punishment because of a crime he has committed. Whoever sees both his eyes burst will be separated from those he loves, or will encounter an unwelcome condition in something he loves, such as property, children, or a house. The bursting of the eye in a dream is sometimes also interpreted as a long life. To pluck out an eye likewise indicates that one will be afflicted with an eye disease.
To see oneself one-eyed in a dream is evidence that half of one’s property will leave one’s possession, or that one has committed a great sin, or that half of one’s life will be lacking. If the owner of this dream has a child, the child will die. To see oneself married to a woman with large eyes indicates that one will marry a foolish and ignorant woman. Whoever sees that he has had his eyes treated will encounter one of five events: his religion will grow stronger, his property will increase, his traveler will return, he will have a child, or his eyes will become stronger. Whoever applies kohl to his eyes for adornment will perform a good deed that will bring him renown; if he is unmarried, he will marry; and if he is poor, lawful property will come into his hands.
According to another report, whoever applies kohl to his eyes will marry two women. Whoever applies kohl to his eyes with an unsuitable substance will commit adultery. According to Ibn Kathir and Nafi‘, a person’s eye signifies his child, his beloved wife, and his spouse. To see pain in the eye signifies deficiency in religion. The degree of this deficiency is measured by seeing that one’s eye has become blind. If the person who sees such a dream is very devout, it is a warning not to neglect his prayers and supplications.
Whoever sees in a dream that he has more than two eyes will become wealthy. According to Ibn Fadala, the eye is the measure of a person’s condition. The dream of the eye is measured by one’s rival. To see another person take one’s eye away is interpreted as falling ill. To see that one has had one’s eyes treated is a warning to restrain one’s tongue. According to one report, one will reform one’s condition, a son whom one will love greatly will be born, or, if one has a beloved in exile, that person will return or one will receive good news from him. Whoever sees that the power of his sight is better than everyone else’s will be regarded as accepted in matters of religion. To see it deficient is the opposite of this. To see a blemish in one’s eye indicates that one has not left a good reputation among the people and is not loved. Whoever sees his eyes white will suffer grief or be separated from those he loves.

According to some interpreters, a beautiful eye indicates sorcery, magic, death, or life. At times, the eyes signify all close relatives. To see one’s eyes become beautiful is interpreted as attaining guidance and acquiring knowledge. If one’s son, spouse, or one of one’s beloved is ill, he or she will recover. If the dreamer is a Christian, he will accept Islam; if he is poor, he will become wealthy. If he is a merchant, he will earn much. If he is an official, his rank will increase. To see that one has an eye larger than it naturally is, or that another person has such an eye, is evidence that one has attained guidance from Allah, the Exalted and Most High. To see one’s eyes spring from their sockets and fall upon a person indicates that one will come to know that person thoroughly.
