Pledge

In a dream, to pledge a possession or oneself against one’s debt, or to be subjected to a mortgage transaction, signifies a warning of divine punishment on account of prayers not performed, fasts not observed, and other religious duties not fulfilled.

To take something from someone as a pledge in a dream signifies granting the debtor respite and showing him leniency. To see in a dream that one has been taken as a pledge signifies suffering torment on account of committing many sins; a pledge sometimes signifies the reproach of the person who leaves it toward the one with whom he has left the pledged object. A pledge also signifies travel or deliverance from distress.

To see oneself detained as a pledge in a place, a house, or a cave signifies that one commits many sins and will be detained in Hell in the Hereafter. Whoever sees that a precious object has been given to him as a pledge in return for rent will cause another to suffer and will oppress him.

To see in a dream that an object left as a pledge is not returned, and that the person who gave it as a pledge keeps coming and asking for it, signifies the lack of conscience of the one who took the pledge and that he is a person not esteemed in the eyes of the people.

If, in a dream, a person comes to reclaim an object he has placed as a pledge, then claims that the thing he left was not that object but a more valuable one, it signifies that he will be in an evil position in this world and the Hereafter and will become notorious among the people for dishonesty.

In a dream, a pledge is interpreted in two ways: need and greed. To see that someone has left something with the dreamer as a pledge signifies that this person is in need of the dreamer. If the dreamer sees that he has left something with someone as a pledge, it signifies that he will be in need of that person.

To see oneself given to someone as a pledge in a dream signifies committing a sin. To see a pledge in a dream is not auspicious, because it signifies need and success.

According to another narration: To see oneself in a dream as a pledge in a place signifies committing many sins and being imprisoned in Hell because of one’s evil deeds. Whoever sees that he has left something as a pledge will oppress another. The person who leaves a pledge keeps asking that man for it until he returns the pledge he has left.

To be seen as a pledge in a dream signifies becoming aware of humiliation and disgrace, and occupying one’s heart with the love of someone. If a person pledges something beautiful in exchange for something bad in a dream, he will become afflicted with love for a contemptible person, and thereby that person’s exalted worth will be destroyed. Sometimes a pledge signifies the pledge-giver’s blessing upon the one to whom it is pledged, and sometimes it signifies travel.

To see oneself leaving any object as a pledge in a dream signifies that one will suffer financial difficulty unless one pays attention to one’s expenditures.

Ibn Sīrīn: To give security or a pledge in a dream signifies debt, surety, and a trust.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.
