In a dream, digging dry earth signifies property in proportion to the quantity of earth extracted; digging moist and damp earth signifies distress and hardship; and digging the earth with the intention of bringing out water signifies doing a beneficial deed for oneself and for other people.

In a dream, causing water from outside to flow into a pit one has opened in the earth signifies difficulty that will arise in one’s livelihood; eating from the earth one has dug signifies property; emerging from a dug pit signifies deliverance; and being unable to emerge from that pit signifies death. Digging a pit sometimes signifies deceit or a short-distance journey, deliverance from fear and distress, or, finding something useful in the pit, being provided with sustenance unexpectedly; digging the ground and bringing something out of it is interpreted as the validity of deeds and judgments.

In a dream, bringing foodstuffs out of a place that has been dug signifies misusing one’s property; digging moist earth beneath the ground signifies plunging into futile works; and a digger of mountains and wells signifies a crafty deceiver and one who conceals his enmity. Digging up someone’s grave and bringing something out of it signifies adopting the profession and way of that person who lies in the grave.

In a dream, seeing oneself digging the grave of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) signifies reviving and practicing the Sunnahs, and benefiting people through the knowledge one has acquired; digging a grave and stripping away its shroud signifies taking an interest in antique things hidden beneath the earth.

In a dream, digging the earth means that a life full of struggle awaits you. Seeing someone digging the earth in a dream, however, signifies success in business life and gaining wealth. For the elderly, this dream signifies an unexpected and great change. For women, it is interpreted as meaning that they are now fortunate and will succeed in ventures dependent upon luck. If you have seen yourself digging the earth, your life will pass in struggle.

In a dream, digging is interpreted as working. Seeing oneself dig a place and bring out something to eat from it signifies that one has misused the blessings bestowed upon him by Allah, the Exalted.

According to another narration: Whoever sees in a dream that he is digging dry earth acquires wealth in proportion to the earth he digs and that comes into his hand. If the earth is damp, he deceives a person because of some property. Yet he gains no benefit from this and falls into distress and hardship. Digging the earth is deceit. Sometimes the one who digs the earth is killed. At other times, his deceit turns against him.

If the sick person sees in a dream that he is digging the earth and bringing something out of it, or if there is a sick person beside him, that person dies, and that place becomes his grave. If he is a traveler, the earth dug up and brought out signifies his gain from the journey. If one sees that he is digging a pit, well, or underground passage in order to bring out water for himself, it signifies working for his own livelihood. Otherwise, it signifies working for the benefit of both himself and all people. If he sees that the water is flowing into the place he has dug, difficulty arises in his livelihood.

Whoever sees in a dream that he is digging a well with the intention of making someone enter it will find the deceit he has devised taking effect against himself. If you have seen yourself digging the earth, your life will pass in struggle.

Seeing oneself digging in a dream signifies that one’s future is secure, provided one does not occupy oneself with evil deeds.
