Undressing

To undress in the midst of people or in the street without knowing for what purpose, and not to feel ashamed of this state, signifies that hidden matters will be revealed and that one’s honour will be blemished.

To undress in a dream in the same setting without one’s private parts being exposed, and to see oneself feeling ashamed, signifies deliverance from the ugly and evil state in which one finds oneself, relief from debt and illness, and security from fear.

To see oneself undressing at home for lawful purposes such as bathing or sleeping signifies well-being and happiness; but if one sees one’s private parts, it signifies committing a disliked deed. To see oneself stripped completely naked by another signifies that the evil destined to befall the person will depart.

(Also, the person who undresses and remains naked in his dream will find relief. But if his naked body is hairy and ugly, it signifies distress. Whoever sees himself undressed as at birth in a dream will be freed from his sins and attain reward.

To see a truly religious person undressing in a dream signifies encountering goodness and benefit and being freed from grief and distress; but for a rebellious and evil person, it signifies that he will be disgraced along with grief and distress. If an official or worker sees such a dream, it signifies that he will be dismissed from his employment.

To see that the garment upon one’s back has been forcibly removed and that one has been left naked is interpreted for an official as losing his post; for a wealthy person, as his property leaving his possession; and for a sick person, as his illness becoming severe. It is not auspicious for a woman to see herself naked in her dream. If she is married, she will divorce her husband; and if she sees herself exposed in the marketplace and among the people, with every part of her displayed, she will suffer a great calamity affecting herself, her husband, or a person whom she loves. According to one narration, the dreamer will become known for something that is not in him and will become famous for shamelessness.

According to another narration, the dream of one who sees himself undressing in the street and among the people without knowing why he has undressed, with his private parts exposed and without feeling ashamed, is not good. The secret matters of that person will be disclosed, and his honour may be blemished. However, the person whose private parts are not exposed, who sees that he cannot find anything to wear, and who feels ashamed of this state will be delivered from evil things; if he is ill, Allah will grant him healing; if he is in debt, he will pay his debt; and he will be secure from what he fears. Some interpreters have said: Undressing is oppression.

To strip a dead person in a dream signifies forcing the dreamer’s wife to divorce, travel, and repenting of sin and becoming purified.

Ibn Sirin: To see oneself undressing in a dream may signify the exposure of one’s shame or deliverance from the evil of an enemy. For righteous people, undressing signifies goodness.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.

In the interpretation, the themes of success and reputation, work and responsibility, health and body, spiritual signs, the emotional tone in the dream, and how the symbol concludes in the dream should be evaluated together.
