To see a moat in a dream is interpreted as danger. If you see in your dream that you are at the edge of a moat, but because of its depth you do not dare to leap over it, this signifies that you will not accept a task offered to you because of its danger.

To see that your foot slips while leaping over a moat and that you fall into it signifies that, because of a dangerous situation into which you have fallen, you are bewildered as to what to do. To see yourself emerging from the moat indicates that you have escaped this danger.

A moat seen in a dream signifies that which is being protected and property. To see a fortress or city without a moat is interpreted as failure to give the alms due and the loss of property. It also signifies such reprehensible matters as a soldier hiding after fleeing in fear of the enemy, the loss of knowledge, the enemy’s attack, or commanding evil and preventing good; and it indicates the dispersal of affairs and the corruption of order.

Ibn Sirin: If it concerns a ruler or governor and his army, the moat signifies his men and his property. If it concerns a scholar, it signifies his counsellors or close associates who support his theories. If it concerns his wife, it signifies her guardian or father. If it concerns his son, it signifies his parents. To see that there is no moat or fortress to defend a city signifies failing to give zakat or alms, squandering money, losing knowledge, the spreading of evil, or the enemy’s assault upon the city.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.

In the interpretation, the themes of warning and risk, work and responsibility, emotional life, success and reputation, the emotional tone in the dream, and how the symbol concludes in the dream should be evaluated together.
