Seeing that one asks for water in a dream signifies recovery from illness, or gossiping and lying; salt water signifies difficulties encountered in one’s livelihood; seeing oneself drink seawater that is salty and turbid signifies sorrow coming from the authorities.

Walking upon water in a dream signifies falling into danger; washing with water signifies paying a debt and repenting; performing a ritual bath with cold water signifies goodness and deliverance.

Seeing oneself struggling in darkness or upon a turbulent body of water signifies disbelief and hypocrisy; seeing oneself swim comfortably in turbulent water signifies spiritual and material advancement. (Seeing one’s garment become wet with water in a dream signifies spending the night somewhere during a journey, or being prevented from obtaining something one desires. For a bachelor, drinking water from a glass or bowl signifies marriage; the sap dripping from a tree or plant signifies the children of the righteous, the essence of knowledge and wisdom, healing and knowledge, joy, and happiness. Seeing someone pour water from the vessel in his hand in a dream signifies beautiful recitation of the Qur’an.

Water seen in a dream is interpreted as a beautiful life and good sustenance. Whoever sees water emerging from his house, it signifies wealth and goodness. Sucking up water signifies suffering hardship in one’s livelihood; if one drinks water, it signifies entering a financially comfortable year; if one sees himself drinking hot water, it signifies very severe grief and anxiety; water that is turbid, flowing somewhere or being drunk, signifies falling ill. Water is interpreted for bachelors as marriage.

It gives information concerning a person’s health, material condition, surroundings, and emotions. If the water seen in a dream is clear and clean, it means that the person will be as well as he wishes. Whoever sees great masses of water in a dream receives a share of fortune.

What does seeing water in a dream mean? It signifies a pleasant life and good sustenance. If someone sees water in his house in a dream, it signifies felicity, accumulated wealth and spoils, abundant goodness, and, in accordance with the meaning of the verse, “And He it is Who has created man from water, then has appointed for him blood relationship and marriage relationship; and your Lord is ever Powerful” (Surah al-Furqan, verse 54), it signifies marriage.

Seeing water as exceedingly clean in a dream signifies the cheapness and abundance of prices and sustenance, and the spread of justice. Sucking up water signifies hardship and toil in livelihood, while drinking water signifies safety from the enemy and cheapness in the year for the one who drinks it. (If someone sees in a dream that he drinks more water than he drinks while awake, or sees that he drinks water from a goblet without becoming satisfied, it signifies that his wife will flee from him.

Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy upon him): They said that seeing water in a dream, according to the meaning of the verse, “If they had remained straight on the path, We would have given them abundant water to drink” (Surah al-Jinn, verse 16), signifies corruption in religion; and according to the meaning of the verse, “Indeed, Allah will test you with a river” (Surah al-Baqarah, verse 249), signifies tribulation.

Whoever sees that he is given water in a goblet, it signifies a child. Whoever sees himself drinking pure water contained in a goblet attains goodness from his child and wife. For glass is of the substance of women, while the water within it is the child in the womb.

Seeing oneself drink hot water in a dream signifies that severe sorrow will befall the dreamer. Whoever leaps into pure water attains joy swiftly. Seeing oneself inside water in a dream signifies sedition, calamity, and grief. (Whoever sees himself asking for water in a dream engages in gossip among people by telling lies. Water without a current signifies prison. Therefore, if someone sees himself falling into water without a current, it signifies that he will fall into prison, sorrow, and grief. Some interpreters said that water which has gathered and stands still is weaker in interpretation than flowing water.

Seeing foul-smelling water in a dream signifies a troubled and laborious livelihood and insufficiency. Bitter water signifies difficult livelihood. Using exceedingly hot water during the daytime in a dream signifies torment and severity. Salt water signifies hardship. Turbid and foul-smelling water signifies unlawful wealth. Seeing black water signifies the ruin of the house in which the dreamer lives. If he drinks the black water, fear is held concerning his eyes. Pure water signifies illness. Turbid waters signify difficulty, hardship, and toil.

If someone sees himself drinking seawater in a dream and the water is turbid, sorrow and grief will reach him from the ruler. (Whoever sees himself performing a ritual bath in turbid water and emerging from it, if he is in distress, will be delivered; if he is ill, Allah Almighty will grant him healing; and if he is imprisoned, he will be freed. Salt water signifies grief. Drawing black water from a well in a dream signifies an evil woman whom the dreamer will marry.

Seeing oneself walk upon the water of the sea or a river in a dream signifies the strength of the dreamer’s faith, provided that he also has words indicating piety and wisdom. Some interpreters said that the owner of this dream sets out upon a journey, relying upon Allah Almighty, despite the road being dangerous. Other interpreters said that whoever sees himself walking upon water will fall into danger. If he emerges from the water, all his needs will be fulfilled.

Whoever sees himself fall into deep water, plunge into it, and fail to reach its depths in a dream will attain abundant worldly goods and become wealthy thereby. For the world is a deep sea. Some interpreters also said that such a person will serve a great man. If the river overcomes the person who falls into the water, he will suffer a severe illness. If he is about to drown in the water, he will die from the illness that has afflicted him. Some interpreters also said that whoever sees himself fall into water in a dream will attain joy and blessings.

Whoever looks at pure and clear water in a dream and sees his face therein appearing beautiful will do good to his family, neighbors, and friends. If he sees that he possesses pure water, he will attain abundant goodness. Whoever pours water into a vessel will provide maintenance for a woman. Sometimes water signifies a wife for a bachelor and a husband for an unmarried girl. If he drinks from a lawful vessel, the marriage is valid. If he drinks from an unlawful vessel, the marriage is annulled. Sometimes drinking water signifies the drink of the poor or that which generous people exchange and share among themselves.

If someone sees in a dream that he is thirsty and drinks water, his crops will revive and his heart will be guided. He will be reunited with his family and children. Whoever performs a ritual bath with water at a time when it will cause him no harm will pay his debt.

Whoever sees sweet water become salty in a dream will apostatize from his religion or fall into error, or his affairs will become difficult.

Whoever sees himself carry water in a vessel in a dream will acquire wealth if he is poor. If he is wealthy and unmarried, he will marry; if he is married, his wife will become pregnant by him. If he sees himself putting water into a vessel, his wife will die. Seeing water in abundance at a time when it ought to be scarce, or seeing it scarce at a time when it ought to be abundant, signifies oppression, crime, famine, and falling into disagreement.

If someone sees in a dream that water comes excessively to a city or village, exceeds its bounds, enters the houses, and brings the inhabitants to the verge of drowning, sedition and disagreement will arise in that city or village, and evil people will perish. Water flowing into a place signifies sorrow and grief. Green water signifies a continuing illness. Some interpreters said that green water signifies a troubled and laborious livelihood.

Whoever drinks black water in a dream will become blind. If an unmarried person sees himself drinking water from a glass or bowl, he will marry. Whoever draws water from a well and pours it into a water-skin, pitcher, or similar vessel will marry a woman.

Seeing oneself perform a ritual bath with cold water in a dream signifies repentance and healing from illness, release from prison, payment of one’s debt, and safety from fear. Whoever sees himself drawing water from a well will obtain wealth through trickery. If someone sees himself drawing water and using it to irrigate a garden, orchard, or crop, wealth will come into his hands through a woman.

The interpretation of seeing water in a dream is wealth; drinking sweet water from a spring signifies attaining one’s desire and living one’s life happily.

Entering into water in a dream signifies deliverance from all fears and troubles; drinking bitter water signifies marriage; washing with bitter water signifies divorcing one’s spouse; filthy and turbid water signifies illness; seeing oneself drink this water signifies that one will die. Seeing water pure and abundant in a dream signifies falling prices, tranquility, and social justice. Drinking a glass of water in a dream signifies protection from every danger of the enemy and a blessed year for the one who drinks it. Drinking more water in a dream than one drinks while awake signifies long life. If a glass of water does not quench one’s thirst in a dream, it signifies disagreement between husband and wife. Dipping one’s hand into water in a dream signifies playing with money and entangling oneself in it.

Fresh drinkable water, or a well, in a dream may at the same time be the proximate cause of a trial, quarrel, or calamity. Giving someone a glass of water in a dream signifies the glad tidings of a child. Drinking spring water in a dream signifies having a child or benefiting from one’s wife. In this sense, the glass in a dream represents the woman, while the water represents the fetus. Drinking hot water in a dream signifies distress and grief. If someone sees himself being pushed into a clear pond or river in a dream, it signifies that he will receive a pleasant surprise. Seeing oneself submerged in water in a dream signifies encountering trials, distress, confusion, and difficulties. Carrying a pitcher filled with clear water in a dream signifies receiving an inheritance.

Asking people for water in a dream signifies lying to them by claiming to be in need. Stagnant water in a dream signifies prison, distress, or depression. It is said that stagnant water has a weaker meaning than flowing water. Foul-smelling or spoiled water in a dream signifies a wretched life. Bitter water in a dream signifies a bitter life. If seawater enters one’s house or workplace and he drinks from it in a dream, it signifies illness. If everyone drinks from it in a dream, it signifies an epidemic. Turbid water signifies an unjust ruler.

If an ill person bathes in turbid water and then emerges from it in a dream, it signifies that he will recover from his illness. If he is facing troubles, it signifies that he will overcome them. If he is imprisoned, it signifies that he will be set free. Pure drinkable water in a dream signifies deliverance. Salt water in a dream signifies distress. Seeing turbid water bubbling and gushing from beside a well in a dream signifies a bad marriage. Walking upon water in a dream signifies the strength of one’s faith, certainty, and reliance upon Allah Almighty. This is especially so if, while walking, he utters words of wisdom and piety. Otherwise, walking upon water in a dream may mean affirming something that is not entirely clear.

Walking upon water in a dream also signifies setting out upon a dangerous journey and relying upon Allah Almighty for protection and guidance. Walking upon water in a dream also signifies a dangerous undertaking. If he walks back from the water onto dry land, it signifies that he will fulfill his needs or attain his desire. Falling into a deep sea or deep river in a dream without reaching its bottom signifies wealth and prosperity, for in a dream the world represents a deep ocean. If he falls into the river and drowns in the water, it signifies that he will become ill. If he drowns in the river in a dream, it signifies his death. Falling into water in a dream may also signify happiness, joy, or blessings.

Seeing the reflection of one’s face in water appear beautiful signifies courtesy toward one’s household and neighbors. Reaching a pond filled with clear water in a dream signifies speaking beautiful words. Pouring water into a sack in a dream signifies spending money to please a woman. Pouring water in a useless place in a dream signifies wasting one’s money. A flood in a dream signifies distress, suffering, and corruption according to its force. If the water level of a dam or river rises, floods people’s houses and workplaces, and endangers their lives, it signifies sedition and trials in a dream, after which evil people will be purged from that place.

Seeing water flow from one’s own roof in a dream signifies an imminent trouble or enduring stress brought by someone in a position of authority. Sweet drinkable water in a dream represents lawful earnings, a good heart, knowledge, revival, recovery from a dangerous illness, a wife, a husband, or marriage. If one drinks a sweet and refreshing glass of water from a lawful glass in a dream, it signifies that his marriage is proper. Otherwise, if the vessel from which he drinks is unlawful in a dream, it signifies that his marriage is religiously unlawful. Water in a dream also signifies the drink of the poor or that which courageous people exchange and share among themselves.

If a thirsty person quenches his thirst with water in a dream, it signifies comfort, the settling of his confusion, wealth in place of poverty, or the reunion of his family. Washing in fresh spring water in a dream signifies that one’s debts will be paid. If sweet water becomes salty in a dream, it signifies apostasy from the religion or straying from the path of Allah Almighty, and encountering insurmountable difficulties. Carrying water in a vessel in a dream signifies having a child and an increase in income. Abundance of water at a time when it ought to be low, or drought at a time when rain ought to fall, signifies injustice, oppression, high prices, disagreements, weaknesses, or having to pay financial losses in a dream.

Clear water in a dream also signifies recovery from trachoma. The bursting of a water tank or pipe in a dream signifies distress, calamity, and misfortunes. Green-colored water in a dream signifies a prolonged illness or a wretched life. Drinking black-colored water in a dream signifies becoming blind. Sucking up water in a dream signifies straitened livelihood. If hot water is unexpectedly poured over one in a dream, it signifies a feverish illness, sickness, or fear coming from the jinn, the intensity of which corresponds to the heat of the water. If one’s clothes become wet in a dream, it signifies a change in travel plans, or may mean postponing a project or the failure of one’s plans.

If a poor person sees himself carrying a vessel of water in a dream, it signifies money. If a wealthy person sees this dream, it signifies marriage or having a child. Carrying water in socks, cloth, or any porous material in a dream signifies boasting of one’s wealth, rank, achievements, fame, and living conditions. Pouring water into a vessel in a dream signifies marriage. Washing in cold water in a dream signifies repenting from sin, recovering from illness, being released from prison, having one’s debts paid, or one’s fears dispersing. Drawing water from a well in a dream signifies earning money through deceit and fraud. Digging a channel to irrigate a garden or field in a dream signifies earning money from a woman.

If the trees of one’s garden or field blossom in a dream, it signifies having a child from such a woman. Irrigating a garden or field in a dream also signifies sexual intercourse with one’s wife. If pure water gushes from one’s mouth in a dream, it signifies that he is a learned person and that people will benefit from his knowledge, wisdom, and counsel. If he is a young merchant, it signifies that he is a truthful person. While sweet water in a dream represents the element of belief in Allah Almighty, salt water represents the element of atheism. Water in a dream also signifies wealth. Water seeping through a crack in a wall signifies distress and grief arising from a brother or brother-in-law.

Ibn Sirin: Seeing an irrigation hose in a dream signifies rain or watering grass or garden plants. An irrigation hose in a dream may also signify positive developments in one’s life or reforming oneself.

It provides early awareness; the person sees risks before they grow and can choose a more solid path.

Neglect, haste, untrustworthy people or uncontrolled behavior can increase the difficulty.
