To see a well in a dream signifies deceit and deception. To dig a well for someone signifies deceiving that person; to see oneself falling into the well one dug for another signifies that the deception will rebound upon oneself and that one will fall into one’s own trap.

To perform ablution or ritual bathing from a well in a dream signifies paying a debt, the acceptance of repentance, and deliverance from sorrow. To see water gathering in a well that has been dug signifies abundant livelihood; if no water emerges, it signifies deceiving someone.

To see the water of a well withdrawn into the earth signifies associating partners with Allah; to look into a well signifies the desire to marry a woman and much good to be seen from her.

To drink from the water of a well sometimes signifies illness; to fall into a well signifies drawing near to eminent people, attaining honor and elevation, benefiting from their knowledge and wisdom, approaching the great by virtue of these qualities, or the arrival of an important person as a guest bearing joyful news.

To clean a well, or to see someone cleaning a well, signifies travel, being of moderate means in one’s livelihood, the death of a sick person, or giving the zakat of wealth as its purification. The pulley of a well signifies a person whose goodness benefits people.

According to Abu Sa‘id al-Wa‘iz: Seeing a well signifies property and a righteous wife for a man, and a husband of good character for a woman; the water of the well is interpreted as property.

Whoever sees himself falling to the bottom of a well will die. According to Kirmani: Whoever sees himself drinking the water of a well will become ill. Whoever sees himself descending into a well will be imprisoned or killed. If he is aboard a ship, he will fall into the water. If he is traveling overland, his way will be blocked.

Whoever sees himself emerging from a well will be brought by Allah, Most High, into relief; if he is ill, he will recover, and if he is imprisoned, he will be freed. To see oneself fall into a well and find no one to bring one out signifies the grave.

To draw water from a well in a dream signifies acquiring unlawful property; to see oneself pouring the water into another vessel signifies that one will spend the property one has earned. Whoever sees himself drawing water from a well with a bucket: if there is a pregnant woman in his house, she will give birth to a boy; if there is a sick person, he will recover; and if there is a prisoner, he will be released. According to one account, he will attain his desire. The well is a desired woman.

To see muddy water inside a well signifies grief and distress. Whoever sees that he possesses a well will have a good spouse. Whoever looks into a well will attend to the affairs of a woman and derive benefit from her.

Whoever sees himself standing at the edge of a well and wishing to draw water with the bucket in his hand will go on a journey. To see a well being closed signifies that, if his wife is ill, she will recover; and if she is pregnant, she will give birth.

According to ‘Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi: Seeing a water well in a dream is interpreted as a cheerful, sweet-speaking wife if the dreamer is a man; and if the dreamer is a woman, as such a husband, property, knowledge, marriage, imprisonment, and deception.

Whoever sees himself digging a well and water emerging from it will marry a wealthy woman and, by deceiving her, take her property from her. If no water emerges, the woman he will marry is poor.

To drink from a well in a dream signifies acquiring property through deception. To see an old well in a place, from which passersby draw water and benefit, signifies that there is a wealthy person in that place who does good to the people; to see the water of that well overflowing signifies that distress will occur in that place; to see oneself digging a well to irrigate one’s garden, and the water filling one’s house, signifies abundant property and wealth; to see the water of the well in one’s house muddy signifies entering the service of certain people and suffering harm from them; if the water is pure and clear, it signifies benefiting from the companionship of a good person.

To see oneself sitting upon a well signifies meeting a deceitful man and escaping his deception; to see oneself going to a well to fetch water signifies setting out on a journey in order to earn a living.

To see a well with sweet water in an unfamiliar place is auspicious. This dream represents the worldly provision of the person who sees it. He will receive sustenance from it, encounter good, and have his life prolonged. If the well is a dry well, his appointed time is near.

The collapse of a well in a dream signifies that one’s wife will die. Whoever sees himself entering a well and reciting the call to prayer therein will set out on a journey and prosper. Whoever sees a well in his workplace or field will find an ample source of livelihood. He will be delivered from distress. Whoever sees himself falling into a well will be dismissed from his work and suffer hardship in livelihood.

To see an empty well signifies the cessation of one’s affairs; a well on the road signifies a dissolute woman; the well of a house signifies the master of the house and his wife; and the well of a neighborhood signifies the guardian of the neighborhood. Thus, the good and evil conditions in this dream are interpreted by analogy accordingly.

According to one account, seeing a well in a dream is also interpreted as deception. Whoever sees himself digging a well for someone signifies that, on account of another person, that man will be deceived.

To see oneself falling into a well signifies that one has practiced deception in one’s work and will be apprehended and punished by government officials. Whoever sees himself drawing water from a well and performing ablution signifies that, after one of his possessions has been stolen, the thief will be found and his possessions recovered. If ablution is seen together with the well in these dreams, the dream should be interpreted on the basis of the ablution, not the well.

To see any well in a dream is interpreted as sorrow, grief, and distress.

According to another account: A well seen in a dream signifies deception and misleading someone. Therefore, if a person sees himself digging a well for a man, he will deceive that man. If the person digging the well sees himself entering it, the deception he intends for another will return upon him.

If a person sees himself entering a well and being unable to see the sky from it, thieves will come to him and steal his belongings. If a person sees himself performing ablution from a well for prayer, he will overcome the thief who stole his possessions and take revenge upon him, or he will immediately obtain compensation for the possessions stolen from him and his heart will find relief. If both the well and ablution are present in this dream, the interpretation arising from the ablution is stronger than that arising from the well. The interpretation of bathing in the well is likewise. If the dreamer is burdened by a debt, Allah, Most High, will grant him the ability to pay it. If he is sinful, He will accept his repentance. If he is imprisoned, Allah, Most High, will deliver him from imprisonment.

If a person sees water flowing or standing forth from a well that he or another person dug for someone else, and that well was dug in order to deceive someone, it signifies abundant livelihood for the person who will attain it.

To see a well signifies sorrow, ill fortune, and imprisonment. Whoever sees himself falling into a well will have his grief removed, draw near to eminent people, and attain honor and elevation. If the dreamer is a scholar, he will benefit from his knowledge. At times, the dreamer will suffer because of the emergence of evil and jealousy between himself and his family. Then he will prevail over them and take revenge upon them. At times, he will encounter an accusation from which he will subsequently be delivered. At times, this dream signifies the departure of sorrow and grief, the opening of the heart, and the fulfillment of one’s needs. Seeing the aforementioned well also signifies travel.

Ibn Sirin: Seeing a well inside one’s house in a dream may signify prosperity, wealth, a spouse, work, a teacher, poverty, deception, the fulfillment of needs, journeys, goals, miserliness, generosity, or a servant. In a dream, the structural condition of each well has its own interpretation. A well also represents a woman who laughs loudly or a woman who is pleasant and inspiring. If a woman sees a well in a dream, it signifies that she will meet a man of good character. To see oneself looking into a well signifies that one is thinking about a particular woman with a view to marriage. A well in a dream also signifies knowledge, marriage, a great man, imprisonment, bonds, or deception.

To dig a well and find water inside it in a dream signifies marrying a wealthy woman whom one will deceive. If the water gushes forth, overflows, and runs outside an old well, it signifies weeping and grief in that place. To dig a well and find water in order to open a channel for one’s garden signifies taking herbal medicine to cure impotence or to save one’s marriage. To fall into a well containing muddy water signifies that one may be subjected to the oppression of a tyrannical ruler. If the water into which one falls is clear in the dream, it signifies willingly serving a righteous man and working for a small wage. Falling into a well may also signify demotion in rank or journeys.

To sit at the edge of a well in a dream signifies dealing with a deceitful person. A collapsed well signifies a dying woman. To reach a well dug so that the general populace may benefit from its water signifies attaining relief after distress. To find a well beside a barmaid in a dream signifies finding a spiritual teacher, or, for those seeking, joining a congregation and a school. If a person sees the Well of Zamzam quenching the thirst of people in a specified locality outside Mecca, it signifies that a sage will come to that town, and that his knowledge and wisdom will greatly benefit its people.

It may also signify the abundance and blessing bestowed upon that town, or the victory of its people over their true enemy. To drink from such a well in a dream signifies the fulfillment of one’s intentions and the satisfaction of one’s needs. A well in a dream also signifies a prison or grief. If the dreamer is in such a condition, it signifies that his troubles will disperse and that he will regain a place among people of authority. If the person in the dream is a soothsayer who foretells events, he may then be admitted into the circles of governors, especially to interpret their dreams. It is also possible that he will receive messengers from distinguished people bearing matters that will gladden him.

It may also signify a family quarrel involving jealousy, envy, and betrayal, though in the end he will gain victory over them. Falling into a well in a dream also signifies being accused of a crime of which one openly claims to be innocent. A well in a dream is also interpreted as the collection of taxes, or may signify circumcision. Digging a well in a dream also represents a crafty and skillful deceiver.
