Imam Ja‘far al-Sadiq: Seeing a well in a dream has six interpretations:

1—A woman

2—A bondwoman

3—A learned man

4—Wealth

5—Deception

6—A remedy.

Digging a well in a dream indicates the trickery of the person digging it.

The Prophet Daniel (peace be upon him): To see that you are digging a well in a particular place indicates that you will deceive your relatives; digging a well for someone else indicates that you will act as an intermediary in a matter of marriage.

To see someone looking into a well in a dream indicates that this person will have great expectations concerning the future.

Allamah Majlisi: To see yourself or another person digging a well indicates that your affairs will deteriorate.

Ibn Sirin: A well signifies a woman; to see that you are digging a well in a certain place indicates that you wish to marry.

To see someone helping you while you are digging a well in a dream signifies that the person helping you will act as a matchmaker between you and the woman whom you wish to marry, and will attempt to have that woman marry you by means of deception.

To see a water well in a dream signifies the woman’s wealth; to see someone digging a well, but no water emerging from the place dug, indicates that you wish to marry a poor woman.

Kirmani: To drink hot well water indicates that you will suffer hardship on account of your spouse’s wealth and, according to some interpreters, that your spouse will fall ill.

To drink cool, pleasant-tasting well water in a dream indicates that you will obtain goodness and benefit from your spouse; to see that there is abundant water in the well indicates that your spouse is generous and charitable; to see little water in the well indicates that your spouse is an evil person.

To see that you have dug a well and that water has emerged from it shortly thereafter is interpreted as meaning that your spouse will fall ill and that you will spend money on their treatment.

To see black or muddy water emerging from the well you have dug indicates that you will suffer distress; to see white water emerging from the well indicates that you will obtain an inheritance.

To see the water sink completely to the bottom of the well indicates that your spouse will die or that your property will be destroyed; to see the well sink into the ground indicates that your spouse will die.

To see, while wishing to draw water from the well, that the rope of the bucket breaks and the bucket falls into the water indicates that you will have a disabled child.

Jabir al-Maghribi: Drawing water from a well indicates that you will amass property through deception.

To see yourself drawing water from a well with a bucket and filling a water jar with it indicates that you will preserve your property well; pouring onto the ground the water you have drawn from the well indicates that you will spend your property in a charitable cause.

To fall into a well in a dream indicates that you will be subjected to deception; to see yourself watering a garden with well water indicates that you will marry with the property you have acquired; to see fruit in the garden you have watered with well water indicates that you will have children.

To see the well water overflow indicates that you will marry a wealthy woman and, through this, obtain property and blessings from her.

Contemporary Scholars: To see a well containing water is interpreted as good; a dried-up well is interpreted as evil. Seeing a well indicates that, after a simple acquaintance, you will experience a powerful bond of the heart.

To see clear water in the well in a dream indicates that you will carry out a highly beneficial transaction; to see the well filled with water up to its mouth indicates harm. In the same dream, drawing water from the aforementioned well indicates that you will establish a connection with a person; if the water in the well is clear, it indicates that this person is good and trustworthy; otherwise, it indicates that the person is untrustworthy.

To see a child at the bottom of the well in a dream indicates that you yourself will have a child, or, if you are not in such a condition, that the person nearest to you will have a child.

To see light coming from the bottom of the well in a dream indicates that, after a difficult, arduous undertaking whose outcome is uncertain, you will see beautiful and prosperous days.

With the right perspective, it can signify restoring balance, recovery, and developing a new understanding.

Uncertainty, indecision, or a tendency to take on excessive burden may be observed.

In the interpretation, the themes of work and responsibility, success and reputation, the emotional tone in the dream, and how the symbol concludes in the dream should be evaluated together.
