Wind

To see wind in a dream signifies the ruler, his country, the general staff and other divisions of the army, ministers, and other state officials. The wind blowing from the west signifies calamities and afflictions, and a storm signifies misfortune; the saba wind blowing from the southeast signifies victory and glad tidings, mercy, abundance, and prosperity. Wind blowing moderately signifies goodness and blessing; wind that raises dust and earth from the ground signifies war.

To see a breeze and a gentle wind in a dream signifies common and ordinary illnesses such as a cold and headache; if the wind carries a person from one place to another without fear, danger, or darkness, then—for one fit for such a station—it signifies attaining authority and being appointed to an important office, while for others it signifies the departure of stagnation in work and trade; if the wind carries a person away amid a shivering, dark, and fearful atmosphere, it signifies hardship and distress, sorrow and grief.

To see wind carrying away trees, houses, and the like, and destroying everything, signifies general calamities and misfortunes; wind seen together with thunder signifies a ruler who is destructive in proportion to his power; if a violent wind (a storm) blows toward the people of a region, it signifies fear and violence for them; if the storm uproots the trees there, it signifies wrath arising from the ruler.

Winds blowing from known directions in a dream (the imbat and the like) signify beautiful and pleasant tidings, mercy, and blessing; the red wind signifies rebellion against one’s parents and the rabble of the people rising into action.

To see a gentle wind in a dream signifies new events, innovations, and a working life that will proceed well. A harsh wind announces that your entire manner of life will change. A warm wind indicates that the person will be troubled by the change.

To see wind blowing in a dream signifies change and innovations that will please one. Wind coming from the sea signifies abundance. The person’s life and circumstances will change greatly.

To see wind in a dream is interpreted in various ways. According to Abdulgani Nabulsi, seeing wind in a dream is interpreted in five ways: journey, joy, change in life, marriage, and birth.

To see the lodos wind in a dream signifies that the course of one’s life will change; the poyraz wind signifies intense love; a harsh wind signifies illness and distress; and the south wind signifies joy and happiness.

According to Ibn Sirin: to see a violent wind blowing signifies that it will bring fear to the people of that place; and to see a wind blowing with such violence that it uproots trees signifies that a calamity or misfortune, such as an epidemic or famine, will befall the people of that place.

According to Kirmani: to see the sam wind, that is, a hot wind, signifies burning illnesses; to see the cold winter wind signifies cold illnesses; and to see a wind blowing with moderate force signifies health.

To see the spring wind causing trees to blossom in a dream signifies the good condition of the people of that place. To see the wind carrying oneself away signifies that one will undertake a long journey, and that benefit and goodness will come to one from this journey.

According to Cabir al-Maghribi: to see a violent wind lifting oneself from the ground toward the sky signifies that one’s appointed time is approaching; to see oneself descend to the ground again after being lifted by the wind signifies that one will fall ill and then recover. Whoever sees himself riding the wind will attain a high rank.

Ja‘far al-Sadiq subjects seeing wind to eight interpretations: glad tidings, having one’s word obeyed, wealth, death, torment, illness, recovery, and relief.

According to another narration: seeing wind in a dream signifies the sultan or ruler, because of his overcoming and prevailing over those beneath him in strength with regard to benefit and harm. At times it signifies the sultan’s dominion and army, his helpers, and the reports of commanders and soldiers. It is known that the wind was in the service and aid of Solomon (peace be upon him). At times the wind blowing from the west signifies ruin and calamity, because of the sound it makes when blowing violently, its felling of trees, and its sinking of ships. For it was this wind that destroyed the people of ‘Ad. At times, the wind that carries clouds laden with mercy signifies cheapness and abundance, victory, and glad tidings. At times wind signifies epidemic illnesses such as a cold and headache.

If a person sees in a dream that the wind takes him from his place and carries him away without fear, danger, or darkness, then, if he is fit for it, he will become a commander over people; or, if his craft is stagnant and the goods in his hand are unsaleable, his craft will become prosperous. If a fearful person sees in a dream that the wind lifts him and carries him away, and if dark dust, earth, sound, screams, and similar conditions accompany the wind, then, if the dreamer is on a ship, he will perish; if he has an illness, his affliction will increase. If he is neither on a ship nor ill, hardship and distress will befall him.

The wind uprooting trees, demolishing walls, and carrying away people, animals, or food signifies a great calamity that will arise among the people, such as plague, war, sedition, or captivity. The sam wind signifies feverish illnesses; wind accompanied by thunder signifies a destructive sultan endowed with power. If the wind carries a person from one place to another, sovereignty and authority will befall that person. Or, that person will travel to a place from which he will not return.

If wind blows upon a city or an army in a dream, and the people of that city or that army are in a state of war, they will perish. Wind blowing moderately is goodness and blessing. A powerful wind is the ruler’s oppression. Wind blowing with dust and earth is war. Winds are glad tidings from Almighty Allah. If nothing auspicious accompanies the wind, it signifies that blessing will depart from that place.

The sound of wind in a dream signifies torment and severity. To see a violent wind blowing over the people of a town signifies fear and severity that will reach the people of that place according to the strength of the wind. The south wind signifies the occurrence of plague, illness, or death in the place where it blows. Some interpreters have also said that the south wind signifies rain and sustenance. A clean wind blowing from known directions signifies beautiful and pleasant tidings and mercy.

To see a gentle wind in a dream signifies new events, changes, and innovations that will please one. A harsh wind announces that all the conditions of life will change. A warm wind shows that the person will be troubled because of the change.

The interpretation of seeing a gentle wind in a dream signifies recovery of health for the sick; for others, it signifies good tidings and meeting a person of a respected station. To see the lodos signifies overcoming troubles; a storm signifies that a disaster will occur in the city where the dream was seen and that the people will fall into adverse conditions; the sam wind signifies contracting a feverish and dangerous illness; being carried away by the wind signifies setting out on a long and tiring journey.

Ibn Sirin: To see wind in a dream signifies a person of authority or a leader. In this respect, wind represents the person’s sphere of control and his power to change affairs and direct the interests of people. Wind also represents the leader, his army, his commands, and his helpers. Wind was one of the servants working under the command of the Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him), by Allah’s permission. To see stormy wind in a dream may signify calamities, destruction, or epidemic diseases. To see a whirlwind signifies destruction or a great disaster. On the other hand, wind may also signify fertilization, a good harvest, abundance, victory, or success.

Nevertheless, winds may also represent illness, rheumatism, sneezing, pain, or headaches. Whoever sees the wind carrying him from one place to another in a sky without clouds or darkness will, if fit for it, preside over people, succeed in his work, or dispose of goods that have been stagnant. If winds lift someone who is under fear or oppression, and black clouds or a cloud of dust accompany them, and the person is on a journey, this signifies that he will encounter great difficulties; if he is ill, his illness will worsen; he will suffer pressure from a higher authority, or a judge will rule against him.

A gigantic whirlwind or tropical storm that lifts people, trees, houses, or animals into the air and scatters them represents a great epidemic or disaster affecting that region. Poisonous winds or polluted air signify a feverish illness. To see stormy wind accompanied by lightning and thunder signifies a tyrannical ruler. If the wind carries a person from one place to another, he may travel there but may not return to his homeland. A gentle wind or breeze in a dream signifies grace and blessing for people and the country. A dust storm signifies destruction in that place. Nevertheless, winds always represent tidings coming from Almighty Allah.

If no good omen or joyful element accompanies the wind in a dream, it signifies that blessing will be cut off from that place. If it comes with a shrill or piercing sound, it signifies a severe punishment for that place. If a commander of an army sees himself going before his soldiers with a stormy wind in front of him, it signifies that he will prevail over his enemy and attain victory. However, if a storm confronts him upon his arrival at the battlefield, it signifies that he will lose the battle. To see a storm uprooting trees signifies that the government of that land will massacre its own people collectively. The south wind signifies illness, trouble, or death; at times it is also interpreted as rain and abundance.

To see a wind blowing slowly signifies consenting to the actions of a group that does evil. Wind blowing from a known direction signifies mercy and blessing, or glad tidings that will come from that direction. Winds also signify asking for one’s needs or their fulfillment. A gentle breeze signifies travel and joy. To see the color of the wind as red signifies a rebellious child.
