Idol Worship

Whoever sees in his dream of worshipping an idol that he is worshipping a cross made of wood will befriend an evil and hypocritical person. According to one account, he will try to approach someone by lying to him and slandering him. If the cross is of silver, he will treat a woman in an unbefitting manner. If it is of gold, he will begin an undertaking he does not desire and suffer harm from it. If the cross is of copper or iron, he will seek help only from worldly affairs.

To see a cross of stone in a dream means that he will approach a man whose heart is like stone and hope to derive benefit from him. If it is of earth, he will befriend a man who is of no benefit even to himself.

To worship a cross in a dream, and to see oneself saying something to it while worshipping it, or kissing and loving it, indicates that one will speak and become friends with people from whom no benefit will come to him, and that he will suffer harm from them.

Ja‘far al-Sadiq (may Allah be pleased with him) interpreted this dream in three ways: falsehood, lying, and a deceitful and mendacious person.

According to Abdulgani Nablusi: Whoever sees in his dream that he is worshipping an idol will, by following the desires of his soul, forget the pleasure of Allah (the Exalted) and occupy himself with false works.

According to some interpreters, seeing an idol in a dream signifies the love of a woman or a child.

The meaning of seeing a cross in a dream is that it indicates things which prevent a person from worshipping. Whoever sees that he is carrying a cross beside him will marry a woman of another religion. Or he will befriend a deaf and mute woman and have a child such as her.

According to Ibrahim al-Ash‘ath, seeing a cross in a dream indicates steadfastness in one’s work. Whoever sees that he has broken a cross or is dragging it will attain a high station, prevail over his enemies, and be safe from their evil.

The interpretation of seeing a cross in a dream, according to one account, points to a beautiful, tall, well-proportioned, intelligent woman. According to another account, it signifies a foolish and haughty woman.

To see oneself buying a cross in a dream is interpreted thus: if the cross purchased is made of a precious material, it signifies a beautiful woman; if it is of little worth, it signifies marrying an ugly and immoral woman.

With the right perspective, it can signify restoring balance, recovery, and developing a new understanding.

Uncertainty, indecision, or a tendency to take on excessive burden may be observed.
