Conjunction (0°) is the very close positioning of two planets at the same degree in the sky: their energies merge without separating, and the planets move together as a single whole rather than separately. It is the strongest aspect in astrology.

What Does Conjunction Mean?

  • Unity and merging: The energies of the planets intertwine; one cannot be read independently of the other, and both work together as a single “voice”.
  • Intensity: Conjunction is considered the most powerful aspect; especially in tight orb (exact) conjunctions, the effect becomes more concentrated and can become a defining theme of the personality.
  • Dominant planet: Usually, one of the two (the one that is stronger in terms of sign and placement) becomes dominant and determines the general direction or “color” of the conjunction.
  • Neutral structure: A conjunction is not inherently good or bad — its nature entirely depends on the characteristics of the planets involved (e.g., Venus-Jupiter might be easy, Mars-Saturn may be tense).

How to Interpret Conjunction in Your Chart?

  • Which planets are conjuncting: First, look into the individual meanings of the involved planets — the theme of the conjunction is the common ground of these two (or more) planets.
  • Sign and house: The sign in which the conjunction occurs shows how the combined energy will be expressed; the house indicates in which area of life it will be felt the most.
  • Tightness of the orb: The tighter (more exact) the conjunction, the more inseparable and powerful the synthesis of the two planets is felt.
  • Holistic reading: Do not label a conjunction as simply “good/bad” — evaluate the planets, sign, and house together to derive a unique story.

Points to Consider

Automatically considering a conjunction as positive or negative can be misleading; the tendency entirely depends on the nature of the planets involved. When three or more planets cluster in the same area, it creates a stellium, making that area the focal point of the chart.
