To see a grave in a dream is interpreted as a prison. To see oneself in a cemetery indicates that one is being sought because of a crime; to see a funeral being buried in a cemetery indicates that one will be released from the place where one was detained because of a crime.
To see oneself standing upon a great grave and reading the writings on its gravestone is a sign that one has committed a major sin. To see oneself digging a grave in a large open area, with no other graves there, is proof that one’s appointed time is near.
To see oneself purchasing a grave, having one’s own grave made before dying, and having one’s name written upon it indicates that someone known to the dreamer will marry. To see a grave removed from one cemetery and transferred to another indicates that the dreamer or his children will have a house built in that quarter.
To dig a grave on the roof of one’s own house is a sign of longevity. According to some interpreters, a grave is interpreted as a house. To see oneself lying down and rising in a grave, using it as one’s house, is a sign of becoming poor.
To see oneself digging, or having dug, a grave for one of one’s family or for oneself indicates that one will have a house built or purchased for oneself and one’s family in that city. If a person sees in his dream that he is in the family cemetery, repairing the graves belonging to his family there and levelling their earth, it is proof that he will pass his life in sound health and at length of days.
To see oneself in the family cemetery, planting flowers upon the graves and watering them, indicates that one will have a child. To see birds coming to drink from the small hollows made upon the gravestones for birds to drink from, but being unable to drink because there is no water in the vessels, indicates that prayers must be offered for them.
To see oneself buried although one has not died is a sign of grief and distress. To see oneself lying in a grave while shrouded is a sign of marrying a woman. To see oneself lifting earth with a shovel in order to open a grave is a sign that one is attempting to do the work which that dead person performed while alive. If the dead person was a learned man while alive, then that person too will become learned; if he was wealthy, he will become wealthy. To see the dead man in the grave one has dug and realise that he is alive is proof that the wealth one has acquired is unlawful, whereas the knowledge one has gained is true.
To see a dead person dead in his grave in a dream is interpreted as attaining one’s wish. To see the dead emerging from their graves in a cemetery, if the season has been dry, is a sign that the weather will become suitably rainy and that grain will be abundant that year.
According to Kirmani: Whoever sees in his dream that a grave is being dug for himself or for another, or that he is digging one, will have a house built in the place where he resides. Whoever sees himself kissing a grave will have a long life and lasting health.
Whoever sees himself buried in a grave before dying will enter prison or encounter difficulty in his affairs. Whoever sees himself buried like a dead person in a grave, but with nothing covering him, will marry if he is a woman, and will enter prison if he is a man.

Whoever enters a grave and sees the grave of a known man transformed into his own house will marry one of the relatives of the owner of the grave. Whoever sees himself standing upon the grave of a wealthy man will attain worldly prosperity.
Whoever sees himself walking among the graves in a cemetery and offering them greetings will become bankrupt and beg. According to some interpreters, whoever sees that he is in a grave and that something is written upon him will enter prison and will not be able to leave it. To see oneself in a grave is to be in distress.
According to Ibn Sirin: Whoever sees himself being placed in a grave will fall into distress. Whoever sees himself in a grave without being covered will undertake a long journey and return with goodness and benefit. Whoever sees himself standing upon his own grave and looking at himself will be freed from his sins. Whoever sees himself in a grave and being questioned by Munkar and Nakir will be brought before a court because of some matter. Whoever sees himself answering them correctly will be secure concerning the matter about which he was questioned. If he errs in the answer, it is evil. Whoever sees himself taken out of a grave and then placed back into it will receive good from the ruler and then be imprisoned. This interpretation applies to those who are state officials. As for others, the dreamer will, according to his station and measure, first encounter good and then harm.
According to another narration: To see a cemetery in a dream signifies admonition, recitation of the Qur’an, weeping, remembering death, fear, and severing one’s attachment to the world. At times, seeing a cemetery signifies learned and pious people and the brave men among the Muslim soldiers.
It signifies the house of a woman who commits fornication. If something valuable from a cemetery dating from the Age of Ignorance comes into a person’s possession in a dream, it signifies obtaining lawful sustenance through earnings or spoils. To see a cemetery signifies security for those who are afraid, and fear for those who are without fear. To see a cemetery signifies fear and hope, and returning to guidance after misguidance. To see the cemetery of polytheists signifies sorrow and grief, fear, doubt in religion, places of innovation, and a lonely and desolate prison. For the cemetery is a prison for the bodies and corpses that come to it. To see a cemetery signifies a place of worship, such as a lodge, renunciation of the world and all besides Allah, and weeping. Sometimes a cemetery signifies death, for the cemetery is the dwelling of the dead. At times, a cemetery signifies the houses of unbelievers and people of innovation, and the quarter of the protected non-Muslims.
This dream signifies the houses of those who have been weakened by corrupting and destructive deeds, and the houses of fornicators; it also signifies taverns in which there are drunkards who are as dead, and the places of heedless people who neither perform the prayer nor remember Allah and possess no deed for the sake of Allah. At times, a cemetery signifies a person who is imprisoned.
To see oneself entering a cemetery, especially having built a structure there, if the dreamer is ill, means that he will die of this illness and enter the cemetery. If he is not ill, the dreamer’s circumstances must be considered. If, upon entering there, he sees himself weeping in fear, reciting the Qur’an, or praying while facing the qiblah, he will join the righteous and a gathering of remembrance and attain worship and obedience. He will benefit from what he sees and hears. If, upon entering there, he is naked and laughing, or urinates upon the graves, or walks together with the dead, then that person will join the company of the wicked and the passionate, adopting and preferring their ways.
Whoever sees himself entering a cemetery with the call to prayer admonishes one who does not understand admonition and counsel. He commands goodness toward a man who will not heed his words. He strives to testify truthfully and fulfil the rights of truth among a people who are ignorant and heedless, or all of whom are unbelievers. Known cemeteries signify a matter that is true and established. Therefore, if a person sees himself entering such a place so that his soul may have faith, and sees himself speaking there with goodness and wisdom and returning to the Truth in repentance, he will enter a blessed service and act therein with fairness. Whoever enters that cemetery but does not restrain his soul from evil and takes no lesson will be occupied with a matter in which he acts heedlessly. Whoever enters a cemetery and sees himself treading upon the bones of the dead will undergo an experience and a trial.
To see oneself digging a grave, or a grave being dug, signifies having a house built in the place where one resides. Covering a grave signifies living in sound health and longevity. Entering a grave before death signifies marriage for a woman, and temporary imprisonment or falling into difficulty in one’s work for a man.
To see oneself walking among graves and entering and leaving graves that are open signifies entering and leaving the houses of people of innovation and evil character, or entering and leaving prison.
To see earth being heaped over oneself in a grave signifies attaining wealth; digging earth in a cemetery signifies long life; a grave covered with greenery signifies that the one lying there is in mercy; a cemetery is interpreted as admonition and counsel, recitation of the Qur’an, fear, severing one’s attachment to the world, remembering death, weeping, security for those who fear something, fear for those who have no fear, and as the house of a woman who commits fornication.
It signifies hope and fear, guidance after misguidance; a Muslim cemetery signifies army tents and preparations for war; a Magian cemetery containing a dead person signifies a forbidden treasure, while if it contains no dead person, it signifies an evil house or a base person.
To see a foreign cemetery in a dream signifies heedlessness and becoming acquainted with the secrets of people of innovation, evil people, and hypocrites. A cemetery of polytheists signifies sorrow and grief; finding something valuable there signifies earnings and spoils; entering a cemetery and treading upon the bones of the dead signifies undergoing an experience and a trial.
To laugh with the dead in a cemetery and commit other unbecoming acts signifies drawing close to licentious and evil people. A grave-digger signifies a great and honoured person. A cemetery signifies houses and every sort of person dwelling therein.
